This thesis presents the historical and stratigraphical evidence for the Persian and Arabic destructions of Caesarea Maritima. Its main purpose is to discover whether the stratigraphical data coincides with the historical information concerning the city in the sixth and seventh centuries A.D.

The archaeological data are the results of four seasons of excavation (1971, 1972, 1973, 1974) carried out by the Joint Expedition to Caesarea Maritima under the direction of Dr. R.J. Bull, Drew University, Madison, N.J. In this study investigation was made concerning the etiology of the foot trails that thread their way through Wasatch Forest lands in Salt Lake county. The time delimitation was 1847 to 1975.

The origin of the majority of these trails dates back to the nineteenth century and is closely tied to the efforts of pioneers who labored to wrest a living from semi-arid land. Early lumbering, livestock operations, mining activities, water collection systems, and pioneer recreation all provided impetus for trail development. In a sense these trails are a kind of anthology of human endeavor.

Another such mathematical revolution occurred between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and was focused primarily on the calculus. This change was a rejection of the mathematics of powerful techniques and novel results in favor of the mathematics of clear definitions and rigorous proofs. Because this change, however important it may have been for mathematicians themselves, is not often discussed by historians and philosophers, its revolutionary character is not widely understood. Color infrared aerial photography was found to be superior to color aerial photography in an ecological study of Lynnhaven Bay, Virginia. The research was divided into three phases: 1) determination of the feasibility of correlating color infrared aerial photography with wetland species composition and zonation patterns, 2) determination of the accuracy of the aerial interpretation and problems related to the aerial method used, and 3) comparison of developed with undeveloped areas along Lynnhaven Bay's shoreline.

A historical sketch of Tractor Testing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Lester F. Larsen. Engineer in charge since 1947, visits with George S. Round, Professor of Agricultural Communications at the University about individuals who made contributions to the successful program. He also reports on 1,155 tests conducted up to January I, 1974, and contrasts tractors of 1974 with those of 20, 30 or more years ago . Testing fee schedules are reviewed in a self-supporting project favorably known round the world.

In May 1965, mammoth remains were exposed during the excavation of a borrow pit for construction of Interstate Highway 40, 2 mi northeast of Hazen, Prairie County, Arkansas. The proboscidian remains consisted of a skull with tusks, mandibles, atlas and other skeletal elements. The vertebra material was scattered over approximately 150 m (1,600 sq ft) but was confined to a layer of red clayey-silt 6.7 m (22 ft) below the surface. No additional fauna or flora was recovered. The mammoth remains are referred to Mammuthus columbi (Falconer, 1857) on the basis of characteristics of the dentition, particularly the comparison of …

Irrigation has played an important part in the development of the Western States. Its beginnings have often been associated with the Mormon settlement in Utah. However, irrigation had its inception in the West long before the Mormons came to the Great Basin in 1847. The spatial extent of irrigation before this date included limited acreage in nearly every Western State.
