Decide : How Much Superphosphate, G A. Robertson, J. W. Bowden, N. J. Halse Jan 1975

Decide : How Much Superphosphate, G A. Robertson, J. W. Bowden, N. J. Halse

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

* A 400 per cent increase in ihe price of superphosphate has reduced the economic optimum rates of super for crops and pastures in 1975.

* Many factors, both biological and economic, must be taken into account in determining the rate of superphosphate to apply.

• DECIDE, a model developed by CSIRO and the Department of Agriculture, provides a formal system in which all these factors can be considered.

• DECIDE is based on the results of all research on superphosphate carried out in Western Australia. However, each farmer's own knowledge of his farm, the soils, crops and animals is …

A Geo-Marine Informational System For Coastal Zone Management, Stella Maris A. Vallejo Jan 1975

A Geo-Marine Informational System For Coastal Zone Management, Stella Maris A. Vallejo

Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers

The purpose of this paper is to present a system analysis for the evaluation and interpretation of information on coastal zone management. We understand by system analysis the consideration of a complex made by related parts, and not merely a totally of parts, where the significance of one thing depends on its relationship with the others. Based on this criteria of interconnections between phenomena, we assume, we are going to give the coastal zone a treatment of a system and in this way impose a correlative statement to the information related to this area. This system approach for the information …

A Model Of Data Structures Commonly Used In Programming Languages And Data Base Management Systems, William L. Honig Jan 1975

A Model Of Data Structures Commonly Used In Programming Languages And Data Base Management Systems, William L. Honig

Computer Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works

This thesis claims that contemporary data structures can be understood and studied with an intelligible model which captures their essential differences and similarities and, further, that such a model is an appropriate basis for a top-down description method for data structures. To define the scope of the model, the data structures included in 21 programming languages and data base management systems have been tabulated. Each individual data structure is illustrated with an example drawn from a published paper or a working computer program. This mélange of data structures is divided into three classes (aggregates, associations , and files) and each …

System Reliability: Exact Bayesian Intervals Compared With Fiducial Intervals, Kathryn P. Berkbigler, James K. Byers Jan 1975

System Reliability: Exact Bayesian Intervals Compared With Fiducial Intervals, Kathryn P. Berkbigler, James K. Byers

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper compares numerically two different, widely used lower limit estimates for the reliability of a series system: Bayesian limits and fiducial limits. The fiducial limits are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation because of its simplicity and ease of computer programming. Subsystem failures are s-independent and exponentially distributed; life test data are available for estimating the failure rate of each system. Using Ibm's Information Management System To Implement A Relational Data Base, Melvin Arthur Rushton Jan 1975

Using Ibm's Information Management System To Implement A Relational Data Base, Melvin Arthur Rushton

Masters Theses

"A relational model of data has been the topic of several papers which deal with the question of the underlying design philosophy of data base systems. E. F. Codd, C. J. Date, and others have discussed the application of relation theory to formatted data, the objectives of such an approach, normalization of relations, and languages for manipulating the model (data sublanguages). Few papers have delt with storage constructs or access techniques for a relational data base. Indeed, it was not necessary that they do so, for the user of such a system is only concerned with the information available in …

Toacs : An Interactive Computer Graphic Display Model Of A Theaterwide On-Line Air Combat Simulation, Herman William Blick Jan 1975

Toacs : An Interactive Computer Graphic Display Model Of A Theaterwide On-Line Air Combat Simulation, Herman William Blick

Masters Theses

"On-line interactive graphics is a very effective research tool for examining the concepts, components and design parameters of theater warfare involving multiple aircraft. The aim of the present research is to design an on-line computer system which utilizes interactive graphic displays to develop a dynamic, two-sided mathematical model of theaterwide tactical fighter combat operations. The model, called TOACS, is very useful in simulating and evaluating airborne defense systems and the problems common to this type of simulation — such as the formulation of battle strategy for the commitment and guidance of interceptors against threat aircraft -- as well as those …

On The Benefactive Feature In Transitivity, Dale Ellen Gaucas Dec 1974

On The Benefactive Feature In Transitivity, Dale Ellen Gaucas

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

An elaboration on the transitivity system network introduced by M. A. K. Halliday is developed. This extension consists of a separate feature system network for the participant role of “beneficiary”. The formulation of the proposed grammar rules to conjoin this network and Halliday's is facilitated by building up the transitivity network to describe "systemically” and uniquely each type of benefactive and range clause presented by Halliday. Systemic descriptions of these clauses are given as examples throughout the discussion.

Statistical Modelling Of Computer Systems: A Review, Amrit L. Goel, Anand M. Joglekar

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

This paper briefly reviews the data dependent statistical methods useful for computer systems modelling. The techniques are classified according to their applicability toward comparison, tuning and design of computer systems. A review of publications dealing with statistical modeling of computer systems is presented and a comprehensive bibliography is included to provide a useful source of reference toward the present and potential applications of statistical methods for computer system modelling.

Analysis Of Unsteady Flow Toward Artesian Wells By Three-Dimensional Finite Elements, Yang H. Huang, Shen-Jyh Wu Aug 1974

Analysis Of Unsteady Flow Toward Artesian Wells By Three-Dimensional Finite Elements, Yang H. Huang, Shen-Jyh Wu

KWRRI Research Reports

A three-dimensional finite element computer program was developed for analyzing unsteady flow toward artesian wells. The program is designed especially for determining the drawdown around an artesian well penetrating fully or partially a nonhomogeneous and anisotropic aquifer of irregular shape and cross section. It can also be used as a general program for aquifer simulation and evaluation. A major advantage of the program lies in the minimum amount of input data required. By assuming the top and bottom boundaries of the aquifer as two arbitrary planes, the aquifer will be divided into six- or eight-node elements, and their nodal coordinates …

Weight Distributions Of Some Classes Of Binary Cyclic Codes, Carlos R.P. Hartmann, J. R. Riek Jr., Ralph J. Longobardi

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports

Let h1(x)h2(x) be the parity check polynomial of a binary cyclic code. This article presents a formula for decomposing words in the code as sums of multiples of words in the codes whose parity check polynomials are h1(x) and h2(x). This decomposition provides information about the weight distribution of the code.
