In this paper, we propose that information technology (IT) managers make investment decisions about new IT initiatives based on a modified rational expectation model. Unlike traditional rational expectation models, we emphasize the relevance of market uncertainty and its impact on the return of new IT investment. This results in information acquisition decisions by managers that can cause information asymmetry. This information asymmetry is endogenous and so the IT manager can become well informed if and only if it is beneficial to do so. In this paper, we identify and solve a new type of spatial queries, called continuous visible nearest neighbor (CVNN) search. Given a data set P, an obstacle set O, and a query line segment q, a CVNN query returns a set of (p, R) tuples such that p ? In this paper, we present ROAD, a general framework to evaluate Location-Dependent Spatial Queries (LDSQ)s that searches for spatial objects on road networks. By exploiting search space pruning technique and providing a dynamic object mapping mechanism, ROAD is very efficient and flexible for various types of queries, namely, range search and nearest neighbor search, on objects over large-scale networks. Web query recommendation has long been considered a key feature of search engines. Building a good Web query recommendation system, however, is very difficult due to the fundamental challenge of predicting users' search intent, especially given the limited user context information. In this paper, we propose a novel "sequential query prediction" approach that tries to grasp a user's search intent based on his/her past query sequence and its resemblance to historical query sequence models mined from massive search engine logs. Node Isolation Model And Age-Based Neighbor Selection In Unstructured P2p Networks, Zhongmei Yao, Derek Leonard, Dmitri Loguinov

Previous analytical studies of unstructured P2P resilience have assumed exponential user lifetimes and only considered age-independent neighbor replacement. In this paper, we overcome these limitations by introducing a general node-isolation model for heavy-tailed user lifetimes and arbitrary neighbor-selection algorithms. Using this model, we analyze two age-biased neighbor-selection strategies and show that they significantly improve the residual lifetimes of chosen users, which dramatically reduces the probability of user isolation and graph partitioning compared with uniform selection of neighbors. In fact, the second strategy based on random walks on age-proportional graphs demonstrates that, for lifetimes with infinite variance, the system monotonically increases …

Metaverses are immersive three-dimensional virtual worlds in which people interact as avatars with each other and with software agents, using the metaphor of the real world but without its physical limitations. Spreadsheet programmers often implement contingent logic using a nested-IF formula even though this technique is difficult to test and audit and is believed to be risky. We interpret the programming of contingent logic in spreadsheets in the context of traditional computer programming. We investigate the “lookup technique” as an alternative to nested-IF formulas, describe its benefits for testing and auditing, and define its limitations.
