Task Graph Scheduling In The Presence Of Performance Fluctuations Of Computational Resources, Najmeh Malakoutifar, Hassan Motallebi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Most of the existing work in the area of task graph scheduling considers resources with fixed processing capacity. The algorithms in these works rely on an estimation of the execution times of tasks on different resources. However, in practice, due to fluctuations in performance of cloud resources, these algorithms have challenges in these environments. In this paper, we focus on the problem of fault-tolerant scheduling of task graphs in the presence of performance fluctuations of computational resources. With the aim of reducing the adverse impacts of both soft errors and resource performance degradations, we propose an opportunistic task replication scheme …

Investigation Of Control Of Power Flow By Using Phase Shifting Transformers: Turkey Case Study, Erdi̇ Doğan, Nuran Yörükeren

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Transmission systems are needed to be upgraded based on expected/unexpected load growth factor by years. However, it is not so easy to install and upgrade the transmission system, which requires transmission planning calculation ahead of time. Traditionally, transmission companies built extra transmission lines to meet that load growth, but it is not easy and cost-effective to upgrade the system every time loads increase. Some unexpected load growth may occur for some load points that is not in the part of planning calculation. For those situations, the transmission system may face serious congestion problems. Transmission companies have been looking for a …

An Adaptive Scheduling Scheme For Inhomogeneously Distributed Wireless Ad Hocnetworks, Adnan Fazil, Aamir Hasan, Muhammad Atique Ur Rehman, Ijaz Mansoor Qureshi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

An efficient scheduling strategy guarantees the simultaneous transmission and successful reception by the scheduled nodes even inside a congested wireless ad hoc network. Owing to the dispersed nature of ad hoc networks, the node packing algorithm needs to be implementable without having network-wide channel state information and should additionally be able to pack the optimum number of successful transmissions. The proposed algorithm, for a network with nonhomogeneously distributed nodes, makes the decision to either inhibit or permit an active interferer around an active receiver based on the interferer?s transmission power. The analysis evidenced that the suggested scheme provides an estimated …

Qpsk-Dual Carrier Modulation For Ultra-Wideband Communication In Body Areanetwork Channels, Yasi̇n Karan, Sali̇m Kahveci̇

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Dual carrier modulation (DCM) using orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) improves the performance in multipath fading channels. In the literature DCM is proposed with 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) for ultra-wideband (UWB) communication, with four bits per symbol to keep reliable high date transmission over longer distances. Body area network (BAN) standards address transmission reliability more than data rate. UWB is one of the physical layers proposed in BAN standards. In this study, DCM is used with quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) instead of 16QAM to have better performance in reliable transmission. The performance of QPSK-DCM is analyzed and compared with 16QAM-DCM, …

Channel And Carrier Frequency Offset Estimation Based On Projection Onto Abidimensional Basis, Roberto Carrasco Alvarez, Ramon Parra Michel, Aldo Gustavo Orozco Lugo, Marco Antonio Gurrola Navarro

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Two of the most counterproductive effects that must be dealt with in communication systems in realistic environments are carrier frequency offset (CFO) and time-varying channels. These problems are usually addressed by using independent approaches for each one. This paper introduces an algorithm that attacks both of these effects in a joint fashion. It is based on a rough compensation of CFO, and after considering that the remaining CFO uncertainty can be seen as part of the time-varying channel a channel estimation that includes that composite channel is performed. Particularly, the channel estimation based on projection onto a bidimensional basis is …

Verifiable Dynamic Searchable Encryption, Mohammad Etemad, Alpteki̇n Küpcü

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Using regular encryption schemes to protect the privacy of the outsourced data implies that the client should sacrifice functionality for security. Searchable symmetric encryption (SSE) schemes encrypt the data in a way that the client can later search and selectively retrieve the required data. Many SSE schemes have been proposed, starting with static constructions, and then dynamic and adaptively secure constructions but usually in the honest-but-curious model. We propose a verifiable dynamic SSE scheme that is adaptively secure against malicious adversaries. Our scheme supports file modification, which is essential for efficiently working with large files, in addition to the ability …

Path-Oriented Random Testing Through Iterative Partitioning (Ip-Prt), Esmaeel Nikravan, Saeed Parsa

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Path-oriented random testing aims at generating a uniformly distributed sequence of test data from a program input domain space to traverse a desired execution path of the program. To this aim, this article proposes a new algorithm to refine a program inputs domain space from invalid subdomains not covering the path. The validity of the subdomains is checked by a constraint propagation method against the path constraints (PCs). The proposed algorithm uses a divide and conquer technique to iteratively split the inputs domain into subdomains and each time refutes those subdomains that are inconsistent with the PCs. The remaining shrunken …

In this paper, we propose a novel frequency domain state-space identification method for switching linear discrete time-periodic (LDTP) systems with known scheduling signals. The state-space identification problem of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems has been widely studied both in the time and frequency domains. Indeed, there have been several studies that also concentrated on state-space identification of both continuous and discrete linear time-periodic (LTP) systems. The focus in this study is the family of LDTP systems that switch among a finite set of subsystems triggered by known periodic scheduling signals. We address the state-space identification of such systems in frequency domain …

Available Transfer Capability Enhancement With Facts Using Hybrid Pi-Pso, Abubakar Sadiq Ahmad, Sunusi Sani Adamu, Muhammad Buhari

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In deregulation, growth in electrical loads necessitates improving power delivery, while nondiscriminatory access to transmission grid is a requirement. Deregulation causes a significant rise in transactions, which requires adequate transfer capability to secure economic transactions. In sustainable power delivery, FACTS devices are deployed to enhance available transfer capability (ATC). However, the high investment cost of FACTS makes the problem formulation a multiobjective optimization: power transfer maximization and minimization of FACTS sizes. Furthermore, due to the complexity in optimizing the control variables of voltage source converter types of FACTS, often the solution results in local optima and high computational time. This …
