Seagrass And Caulerpa Monitoring In Hillsborough Bay Sixth Annual Report, City Of Tampa Department Of Sanitary Sewers
Reports
This is the sixth annual report to FDER to satisfy the requirements set forth in specific condition #14 of FDER construction permit DO29-1845321B.
The City of Tampa, Bay Study Group (BSG), has monitored the effects of sewage pollution abatement in Hillsborough Bay since 1976. Within the last decade, water quality improvements and evidence of minor seagrass revegetation in Hillsborough Bay prompted the BSG to initiate a seagrass study to compliment other programs assessing the environmental status of Hillsborough Bay.
Value Of Saltbush Questioned, Brian Warren, Tess Casson, Ed Barrett-Lennard
Value Of Saltbush Questioned, Brian Warren, Tess Casson, Ed Barrett-Lennard
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Over the last 20 years the Department of Agriculture has focused on finding plant species that can grow on salt/and to produce sheep feed, and on techniques for establishing plantations of saltbushes. Some research has been in response to farmer reports of success in using revegetated salt/and to provide autumn forage, while other work has resulted from the apparent importance of saltbushes in rangeland areas.
Objective measurements of wool production have been taken only recently. Three years research at Katanning indicates that while saltbush material is selected and eaten by sheep, its value for wool production is not high. It …
Soil Salinity Assessment Using The Em38 Field Operating Instructions And Data Interpretation, Don Bennett, Richard George, Arjen Ryder
Soil Salinity Assessment Using The Em38 Field Operating Instructions And Data Interpretation, Don Bennett, Richard George, Arjen Ryder
Agriculture reports
The Geonics EM38 is a portable instrument designed to take in situ field measurements of soil conductivity to about 1.5 m depth. If used correctly, the EM38 allows rapid, reliable estimates of soil salinity to be obtained from large areas without intensive soil sampling. The meter is very useful for delineating the extent and relative severity of saline areas. Although soil salinity has the dominant effect on the EM38 signal, other soil physical factors such as clay content, moisture content and temperature can affect the response. If the EM38 measurements are to be related to plant performance and used for …
Spatial Time-Series: Pollution Pattern Recognition Under Irregular Interventions, Samuel A. Wright
Spatial Time-Series: Pollution Pattern Recognition Under Irregular Interventions, Samuel A. Wright
Theses and Dissertations
The Fernald Environmental Restoration Management Corporation (FERMCO) has noted the introduction of arsenic contamination to groundwater around the area of the groundwater recovery system, which captures uranium contaminated groundwater. The introduction of arsenic occurs during high levels of pumping and is particularly sensitive to the western two of the five pumps. Auto-Regressive Moving Average (ARMA) and Spatial-Temporal ARMA (STARMA) empirical analyses are used to model the level of arsenic contamination found through time. The intervention of varied levels of pumping is modeled with a transfer function using analytic techniques to create a causal intervention transfer function input series to give …

A Search For The Seasonal Variability On The Depositional Fluxes Of 7Be And 210Pb, M. Baskaran
A Search For The Seasonal Variability On The Depositional Fluxes Of 7Be And 210Pb, M. Baskaran
Environmental Science and Geology Faculty Research Publications
Investigations of the atmospheric fallout of 7Be and 210Pb in many places around the globe indicate that there are seasonal variations on the depositional fluxes of these nuclides: high in winter in a few places, while in most places the high occurs in spring. However, these earlier studies did not address quantitatively the corresponding seasonal variations of the amount of precipitation during these periods. Data on the depositional fluxes of 7Be and 210Pb in Galveston, Texas, during the years 1989–1991 indicate that the seasonal variation is not uniform from year to year, and the amount of …
Identification And Conservation Strategy For Sandhills Fens In Cherry County Nebraska, Gerry Steinauer
Identification And Conservation Strategy For Sandhills Fens In Cherry County Nebraska, Gerry Steinauer
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts
In the Sandhills, fens are generally found in two locations: in stream valleys often near the headwaters and at the upper end of Sandhills lakes and marshes. In both areas groundwater discharge into the valleys can be abundant, and in some cases, has led to the development of fens on the valley floor. A few Sandhills fens approach 500 ac (200 ha) in size and are among the largest fens in the Great Plains. Most Sandhills fens are smaller, some only a few acres (ha) or less in size.

Dispersal Dynamics Of The Bivalve Gemma Gemma In A Patchy Environment, John A. Commito, Carol A. Currier, Laura R. Kane, Kathleen A. Reinsel, Irene M. Ulm
Environmental Studies Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was to analyze the dispersal dynamics of the ovoviviparous bivalve Gemma gemma (hereafter referred to as Gemma) in an environment disturbed by the pit-digging activities of horseshoe crabs, Limulus polyphemus. Gemma broods its young and has no planktonic larval stage, so all dispersal is the result of juvenile and adult movement. Animal movement was measured using natural crab pits, hand-dug simulated crab pits, and cylindrical bottom traps in the intertidal zone at Tom's Cove, Virginia, USA.
This study demonstrated that horseshoe crabs create localized patches with reduced densities of Gemma, that all sizes and ages …

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)
This draft environmental assessment (EA) discusses two related actions proposed to assist in the recovery of two Federally-listed endangered fish species. The actions are intended to restore use of historic and designated critical habitat of the Gunnison River by the Colorado squawfish and razorback sucker. The proposed actions are to: construct and operate a fish passageway around the Redlands Diversion Dam; and execute an interim (short-term) memorandum of agreement (water agreement) to supply streamflows needed to operate the passageway and maintain downstream fish habitat and access for fish to the passageway. The EA is prepared jointly by the Bureau of …

Water Resources Studies Along The Arkansas-Oklahoma Border, Kenneth F. Steele
Water Resources Studies Along The Arkansas-Oklahoma Border, Kenneth F. Steele
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The watershed approach to water resource issues recently has been re-discovered. Scientists and managers recognize the need to consider the entire watershed when delineating and solving today's water resource problems. A simple example is the effect that streams have on the ultimate "health" of a reservoir. Although technically the term watershed should be used only in reference to surface water, the importance of ground water is included in the watershed approach to problems. In recognition that we all "live upstream and downstream," the Arkansas Water Resources Center and the Oklahoma Water Resources Institute sponsored a conference titled "Water Resource Studies …

Section I: Thermodynamic Properties Of Hydrocarbon Radicals, Peroxy Hydrocarbon And Peroxy Chlorohydrocarbon Molecules And Radicals Section Ii: Kinetics And Reaction Mechanisms For : (1) Chloroform Pyrolysis And Oxidation (2) Benzene And Toluene Oxidation Under Atmospheric Conditions, Tsan-Horng Lay
Dissertations
Alkyl radicals are important active intermediates in gas phase photochemistry and combustion reaction systems. With the exception of a limited number of the most elementary radicals, accurate thermodynamic properties of alkyl radicals are either not available or only rough estimations exist. An H atom Bond Increment approach is developed and a data base [sic] is derived, for accurately estimating thermodynamic properties (ΔHf°298, S°298 and Cp(T)) for generic classes of hydrocarbon radical species.
Reactions of alkyl radicals with molecular oxygen are one of the major reaction paths for these radicals in atmospheric photochemistry, oxidation of hydrocarbon …
Quantitative Studies Of An Immobilized Cell Oxidative Bioreactor, Timothy Lance Borkowski
Quantitative Studies Of An Immobilized Cell Oxidative Bioreactor, Timothy Lance Borkowski
Theses
The purpose of this work was to determine a suitable method of utilizing dissolved oxygen in reservoir solution data to quantitatively measure the amount of oxygen and substrate consumed for an immobilized cell batch bioreactor in a recirculation configuration. Statistical analysis was performed on multiple phenol injections to determine the mathematical relationship between dissolved oxygen readout and the amount of phenol degraded.
Factors considered in the mathematical analysis include amount of substrate degraded, reaction time, recirculation flow rate, measured dissolved oxygen concentration and oxygen consumption, oxygen conversion per pass through the bioreactor during steady state, and vitality of the microorganisms. …
