Geology Of The Monte Cristo Area, Bear River Range, Utah, Robert B. Smith May 1965

Geology Of The Monte Cristo Area, Bear River Range, Utah, Robert B. Smith

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Monte Cristo area is a 7 1/2-minute quadrangle located in the southeastern. part of the Bear River Range, northern Utah. It is within the Middle Rocky Mountain province and is 10 miles east of the Basin and Range province. Previous to this investigation little was known about the detailed geology of the area except for a reconnaissance study and general geologic map of the Cache County part included in the Geologic Atlas of Utah, Cache County, published by Williams (1958).

The purposes of this investigation were as follows: (1) to determine the formations present in the area and their …

Paleozic Stratigraphy Of The James Peak Quadrangle, Utah, Harley D. King May 1965

Paleozic Stratigraphy Of The James Peak Quadrangle, Utah, Harley D. King

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

General Statement

The James Peak quadrangle is a topographic map unit of the Geological Survey of the U. S. Department of Interior (Plate 1). It covers 7 1/2 minutes of latitude and longitude at a scale of 1:24, 000 or 1 inch to 2, 000 feet. It is bounded by lat 41°22'30" N. and lat 41°30' N. and long 111°45' W. and long 111 °52 '30" W The quadrangle includes 56 square miles and has maximum relief of about 4, 300 feet.

The James Peak quadrangle is located in northern Utah between the Wasatch Range on the west and the …

Fusulinids From The Cyathophyllum Limestone, Central Vestspitsbergen, Charles A. Ross Apr 1965

Fusulinids From The Cyathophyllum Limestone, Central Vestspitsbergen, Charles A. Ross

Geology Faculty Publications

Thirteen species of fusulinids are illustrated and described from eleven collections within the Cyathophyllum Limestone of central Vestspitsbergen. The lower collections at Tempelfjorden and the collection from Mount Lykta contain Schubertella transitoria, Triticites arcticus, and Schwageriiia anderssoni and other species typical of the Carboniferous zones C3C through C3E of the Ural region of the U.S.S.R. It is suggested that “Fusulinella" usvae is a species of Waeringella. Higher collections at Tempelfjorden include Parafusulina furnishi n. sp. and Pseudofusulinella tempelensis n. sp. and a loose block from higher in the succession includes Schwagerina …

Possible Late Pleistocene Uplift, Chesapeake Bay Entrance, W. Harrison, Rj Malloy, Ga Rusnak, J Terasmae Feb 1965

Possible Late Pleistocene Uplift, Chesapeake Bay Entrance, W. Harrison, Rj Malloy, Ga Rusnak, J Terasmae

VIMS Articles

Paleontological and lithological studies of engineering borings and boring logs subaerial erosion surface of Pliocene (?)-Pleistocene age cuts across clastic sediments of pre-Yorktownian Miocene age in the subsurface and subbottom of the lower Chesapeake Bay area. When the bore-hole data are coupled with the results of subbottom echo profiling and piledriving records, it is possible to construct accurate cross sections of the buried Miocene-Pleistocene contact. The cross sections show "lows" in the erosion surface that may be correlated with the buried channels of the Pleistocene Elizabeth, James, York, and Susquehanna river valleys. Probable channel depths below mean low water at …

Precambrian Geology In Humboldt Township, Marquette County, Michigan, Peter D. Rowley Jan 1965

Precambrian Geology In Humboldt Township, Marquette County, Michigan, Peter D. Rowley

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

ABSTRACT-The present study involved investigation of gneissic granite, migmatite, basic dikes, and faults in part of the Southern Complex of Michig.an. The average strike of the foliation of the gneissic granite based upon the orientation of feldspar phenocrysts is N. 60° w·;, the strike of the major dike set is between N. 30° W. and N. 60° W., the average strike of the fault zones-is N. 52° W., and a two-mile long body of migmatite trends about N. 57° W. The known history starts in the early Precambrian, when gneissic granite was emplaced and formed migmatites by incorporation of wall-rock …

Marine Geology, Preston E. Cloud Jr. Jan 1965

Marine Geology, Preston E. Cloud Jr.

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Were the average temperature of the earth a few tens of degrees less than it is, ice would be the most common crustal rock. The fact that it occurs in its liquid phase over 71 per cent of the earth's surface should not obscure the fact that the oceans are geologic features, particularly in their substructure, their boundary relations, and their history.

Geology Of The Lamy-CañOncito Area, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Robert S. Goolsby Jan 1965

Geology Of The Lamy-CañOncito Area, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Robert S. Goolsby

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The area studied lies in the vicinity of Lamy and Canoncito in Santa Fe County, about 17 miles southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The rocks range in age from Precambrian through Quaternary, Precambrian rocks include dark schist and pink gneiss, with minor amounts of greenstone and quaritzite, Overlying the Precambrian rocks is a sequence of sandy limestone called the Basal Limestone, of Mississippian and possibly Devonian age. The Pennsylvanian System is represented by the Sandia formation and Madera Limestone, which are dominantly dark shale and fossiliferous limestone. The Sangre de Cristo and Yeso Formations, Glorieta Sandstone, San Andres Linestone, …

Geology Of The San Mateo Peak Area, Socorro County, New Mexico., James W. Furlow Jan 1965

Geology Of The San Mateo Peak Area, Socorro County, New Mexico., James W. Furlow

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The San Mateo Mountains of south-central New Mexico consist of an uplifted block of Tertiary volcanics 20 miles wide by 4 miles ling. The San Mateo uplift is one of the bounding uplifts along the western side of the Rio Grande depression.

The basement rock as exposed just east of the San Mateos is a Precambrian granite; it is overlain in order by the Cambrian Bliss formation, the Ordovician Sierrite Limestone, Cable canyon sandstone, and Upham Dolomite, the Pennsylvanian Magdalena Group, and the Permian Abo Formation. These sedimentary rocks are unconformably overlain by Tertiary volcanic rocks of the Lower volcanic …
