1973 Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton Jan 1973

1973 Time Of Planting And Rate Of Seeding On Lupin Yield, G Walton

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Of the four time of planting trials two definitely showed superiority of earlier seeding (73BA5, 73E6). The two trials in the Southwest (73BR14 and 73MT7) gave highest yields with June sowing compared to May. Three trials (73BR14, 73E6 and 73BA5) appear to have a Variety x Time interaction for plant density, but no definite trend for either Uniharvest or Unicrop although later sowing reduced plant density. Seeding rates in excess of 82 kg/ha gave the highest yields in all trials. The rate of seeding experiments (73BA5 and 73MT7) show that the best crop density for yield (graph) lies between 8 …

Potassium For Pastures, Walter Jacob Cox

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

IVIany pastures in the south-west of Western Australia are deficient in potassium or need regular dressings for maximum growth. This article indicates areas and situations in which potassium might be needed, shows how deficiency is diagnosed and gives recommended rates of application.

A Study Of Organochlorine Insecticides In Freshwater Crayfish -- Analytical Problems And Biomonitoring Survey, Robert C. Vanderjack Jan 1973

A Study Of Organochlorine Insecticides In Freshwater Crayfish -- Analytical Problems And Biomonitoring Survey, Robert C. Vanderjack

Masters Theses

Crayfish were collected from 3 sites on Polecat Creek, Coles County, Illinois in early spring, early summer, and late summer of 1972. Pesticides were extracted from the crayfish tissue in a one step procedure utilizing a Florisil elution column. Analysis was by electron capture gas chromatography. Pesticide residues in the nannogram range were analyzed and background contamination was an important consideration. Sources of background contamination were investigated and teflon stopcocks, Florisil, and residues on “cleaned” glassware were found to be major contamination sources. Distilled water used in flushing glassware should also be considered a potential contamination source.

Distribution Of Foraminiferida In An Estuarine Marsh System, Charles Warren Norton Jan 1973

Distribution Of Foraminiferida In An Estuarine Marsh System, Charles Warren Norton

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Foraminiferal faunas in marshes and distributary channels of the James River estuary, Virginia, disclose several facies. The channel facies, primarily Ammobaculites crassus, and A. sp. A, typical of estuaries in Chesapeake Bay and other brackish areas are readily distinguishable freom the march facies. Marshes are divisible laterally by changes in the relative proportions of marsh species such as Miliammina fusca, Ammoastuta salsa, and Haplophragmoides hancocki.Changes along the longitudinal estuarine salinity gradient are discernable in both tidal creeks and marsh. Channels exhibit a longitudinal gradient from a freshwater thecamoebinid facies through an upper and mid-estuarine Ammobaculites facies to a higher salinity …

Some Aspects Of Mercury Accumulation By The Purple Shore Crab Hemigrapsus Nudus Dana (Crustacea: Decapoda), Ralph Gene Swanson Jan 1973

Some Aspects Of Mercury Accumulation By The Purple Shore Crab Hemigrapsus Nudus Dana (Crustacea: Decapoda), Ralph Gene Swanson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The present study has attempted to investigate some of the more basic questions concerning the toxicity and accumulation of mercury in the purple shore crab, Hemigrapsus nudus. This rocky intertidal denizen is found in abundance along the entire Pacific coast of the United States from Sitka, Alaska, to the Gulf of California where it dominates the mid-tide pool region. Local specimens were collected just north of the Pacific Marine Stations, Dillon Beach, Marin County, California. The animal is hearty and can be kept in a state of good health for long periods of time in the laboratory with minimum care …

Optimum Age, Temperature, And Salinity For Estuarine Stocking Of Juvenile Striped Bass, Morone Saxatilis, Walter Steven Otwell Jan 1973

Optimum Age, Temperature, And Salinity For Estuarine Stocking Of Juvenile Striped Bass, Morone Saxatilis, Walter Steven Otwell

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

A 3n factorial design to evaluate the effects of an abrupt introduction of striped bass, Morone saxatilis from a closed-system rearing facility into a variety of experimental temperature and salinity combinations has demonstrated a considerable hardiness of juvenile fish. Striped bass less than two months old had over 80.0%, survival during seven days subsequent to acute introduction from an average ambient condition of 21.0 ± 3 C at 0.20 to 4.8% into temperatures of 18 C and 24 C and salinities of 4.0% and 12.0%. Relative growth in these treatments was significantly greater than in the 12 C treatment at …
