Jonckheere Trend Test Under Indeterminacy With Applications, Abdulrahman Alaita, Muhammad Aslam, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The classical Jonckheere trend test is a non-parametric statistical tool usually employed to compare the medians of multiple independent groups, especially when there is a natural ordering or trend among the groups. This paper aims to develop a more comprehensive and adaptable version of the Jonckheere trend test, called the neutrosophic Jonckheere trend test (NJT), which can be used to analyze di_erent types of uncertainty data. This paper discusses neutrosophic hypotheses and decision rules pertaining to the NJT test. Furthermore, the practical uses of the NJT test have been discussed in the context of real-world applications with COVID-19 data. Lastly, …

This study employed the integration of neutrosophic set theory with set-theoretic methods and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) to examine intricate social phenomena. Participants' opinions and attitudes were captured using neutrosophic Likert scales, which reflected elements of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. This proposal is illustrated in a case study facilitated a more comprehensive and subtle examination, emphasizing the significance of variables such as motivation, instructional excellence, and educational resources in achieving academic accomplishment. The results of the necessary condition analysis and set coincidence analysis indicated that motivation and teaching quality have the highest individual impact. Nevertheless, the convergence of scholarly resources, …

Computation Of Separate Ratio And Regression Estimator Under Neutrosophic Stratified Sampling: An Application To Climate Data, Abhishek Singh, Hemant Kulkarni, Florentin Smarandache, Gajendra K. Vishwakarma

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this article, we introduce a novel approach by presenting separate ratio and regression estimators in the context of neutrosophic stratified sampling for the very first time, incorporating auxiliary variables. We have conducted a thorough analysis to estimate these newly proposed estimators' bias and mean square error (MSE) up to the first-order approximation. Theoretically using efficiency comparison criteria, our findings demonstrate the superior performance of these estimators compared to traditional unbiased estimators. Also, numerically based on real-life and artificial data, we have shown the supremacy of the neutrosophic stratified sampling over neutrosophic simple random sampling along with the supremacy of …

A New Mood’S Median Test For Imprecise Data, Abdulrahman Alaita, Muhammad Aslam, Florentin Smarandache Jan 2024

A New Mood’S Median Test For Imprecise Data, Abdulrahman Alaita, Muhammad Aslam, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The existing Mood’s median test is a non-parametric test used to compare two or more sample data sets whether they are from the same population or not. There can be no application of this test to uncertain and indeterminate data. Therefore, it is necessary to find a generalization of this test that will enable us to apply it in uncertain environments. This study will present a new approach that utilizes neutrosophic statistics to apply Mood’s median test. The approach involves defining hypotheses, determining a decision rule, and performing the test in an uncertain environment. An evaluation of the performance of …

A Neutrosophic Approach To Study Agnotology: A Case Study On Climate Change Beliefs, Florentin Smarandache, Maikel Leyva Vázquez

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Misinformation and biased information significantly impact public perception and political decisions, especially on critical issues such as climate change and environmental conservation. This study aims to understand how indeterminacy and contradiction influence public perception and policy formulation by applying neutrosophic theory to model the complexity and multi-dimensionality of ignorance. Using neutrosophic Likert scales, we capture a nuanced spectrum of opinions on the scientific certainty of human impact on climate change. The results are analyzed through a k-means clustering algorithm to identify patterns and segment participants into groups based on their levels of truth, indeterminacy, and falsehood. This approach reveals deeper …

Legendrian Torus And Cable Links, Jennifer Dalton,, John B. Etnyre, Lisa Traynor Jan 2024

Legendrian Torus And Cable Links, Jennifer Dalton,, John B. Etnyre, Lisa Traynor

Mathematics Faculty Research and Scholarship

We give a classification of Legendrian torus links. Along the way, we give the first classification of infinite families of Legendrian links where some smooth symmetries of the link cannot be realized by Legendrian isotopies. We also give the first family of links that are non-destabilizable but do not have maximal Thurston-Bennequin invariant and observe a curious distribution of Legendrian torus knots that can be realized as the components of a Legendrian torus link. This classification of Legendrian torus links leads to a classification of transversal torus links.

We also give a classification of Legendrian and transversal cable links of …

Cognitive Maps are a vital tool that can be used for knowledge representation and reasoning. Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) are popular soft computing techniques used to model large and complex systems, and they can aid in explainable AI. FCMs, however, cannot model the indeterminacy that arises in a system due to various uncertainties. Neutrosophic Cognitive Maps (NCMs), upgraded FCMs that could model indeterminacy, was introduced to address this issue. NCMs are a generalization of FCMs, a field of cognitive science firmly based on neural networks. NCMs have been used to solve a wide range of problems. NCMs were introduced in …

A Decision-Making Approach Incorporating Todim Method And Sine Entropy In Q-Rung Picture Fuzzy Set Setting, Büşra Aydoğan, Murat Olgun, Florentin Smarandache, Mehmet Unver

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this study, we propose a new approach based on fuzzy TODIM (Portuguese acronym for interactive and multicriteria decision-making) for decision-making problems in uncertain environments. Our method incorporates group utility and individual regret, which are often ignored in traditional multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. To enhance the analysis and application of fuzzy sets in decision-making processes, we introduce novel entropy and distance measures for q-rung picture fuzzy sets. These measures include an entropy measure based on the sine function and a distance measure derived from the Jensen-Shannon divergence. In our methodology, incorporating the sine function into the entropy measure stands out …

Progress In Physics: Twentieth Year Of Publication, Florentin Smarandache, Andreas Ries, Pierre Millette, Ebenezer Chifu Jan 2024

Progress In Physics: Twentieth Year Of Publication, Florentin Smarandache, Andreas Ries, Pierre Millette, Ebenezer Chifu

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The journal Progress in Physics was created in January 2005 on behalf of many influential scientists with whom we were in correspondence. The main reason was that publications in other journals were allowed only if the submitter was affiliated with a scientific institution or research organization. Given this situation, many working scientists finding themselves partially employed or unemployed, such as in between research grants, find themselves unable to publish their research results. Even e-print archives such as Cornell’s arXiv required scientific affiliation and still follow this policy.

Row-Column Designs: A Novel Approach For Analyzing Imprecise And Uncertain Observations, Abdulrahman Alaita, Muhammad Aslam, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Classical row-column designs cannot be applied when the underlying data set contains some imprecise, uncertain, or undetermined observations. In this paper, we discuss row-column design under a neutrosophic statistical framework. A significant contribution of our study is to propose a novel approach to analyzing row-column designs using neutrosophic data. This approach involves calculating the neutrosophic analysis of variance (NANOVA) table for the proposed design and using it to derive the FN -test in an uncertain environment. Two numerical examples have been used to assess the proposed design’s performance. Results from the study indicated that a row column design under …

This paper presents novel concepts including stratified single-valued neutrosophic soft topogenous (stratified svns-topogenous), stratified single-valued neutrosophic soft filter (stratified svns-filter), stratified single-valued neutrosophic soft quasi uniformity (stratified svnsq-uniformity) and stratified single-valued neutrosophic soft quasi proximity (stratified svnsq-proximity). Additionally, we present the idea of single-valued neutrosophic soft topogenous structures, formed by integrating svns-topogenous with svns-filter, and discuss their properties. Furthermore, we explore the connections between these single-valued neutrosophic soft topological structures and their corresponding stratifications.

Upside-Down Logics: Falsification Of The Truth And Truthification Of The False, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This paper is about funny science, recreational mathematics, upside-down thinking, or contradictory reasoning (to think backward). Since a statement in some conditions may be true, in other conditions false, and a third type of conditions partially true and partially false. The paper presents for the first time two types of Upside-Down Logic, the first one is falsification of the Truth (when a true statement is transformed into a false one), and the second one is the opposite: Truthification of the False (when a false statement is transformed into a true one) - within the frame of Recreational Neutrosophy. All transformations …

In practical life, we encounter many systems that cannot be studied directly, either due to their high cost or because some of these systems cannot be studied directly. Therefore, we resort to the simulation method, which depends on applying the study to systems similar to real ones and then projecting these results if they are suitable for the real system. The simulation process requires a good understanding of probability distributions and the methods used to transform random numbers that follow a regular distribution in the field [0,1] into random variables that follow them, so that we can achieve the greatest …

An Introduction To Single-Valued Neutrosophic Primal Theory, Fahad Alsharari, Hanan Alohali, Yaser Saber, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This article explores the interconnections among the single-valued neutrosophic grill, single-valued neutrosophic primal and their stratification, uncovering their fundamental characteristics and correlated findings. By introducing the notion of a single-valued neutrosophic primal, a broader framework including the fuzzy primal and intuitionistic fuzzy primal is established. Additionally, the concept of a single-valued neutrosophic open local function for a single-valued neutrosophic topological space is presented. We introduce an operator based on a single-valued neutrosophic primal, illustrating that the single-valued neutrosophic primal topology is finer than the single-valued neutrosophic topology. Lastly, the concept of single-valued neutrosophic open compatibility between the single-valued neutrosophic primal …

A Refined Neutrosophic Components Into Subcomponents With Plausible Applications To Long Term Energy Planning Predominated By Renewable Energy, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache Jan 2024

A Refined Neutrosophic Components Into Subcomponents With Plausible Applications To Long Term Energy Planning Predominated By Renewable Energy, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

It is known that in the long-term planning of future energy supplies, in most countries, it is most likely that the energy mix will be predominated by renewable energy generation. While this feature of a predominating renewable energy mix appears too far fetched, such long term planning has been suggested, for instance, by Mark Jacobson from Stanford and also by John Blackburn. Here we consider two things, the first would be how to consider the long-term energy planning based on neutrosophic logic split into subcomponents.

Physics, the grand narrative of the universe, bas long been viewed as realm of cold, hard equations. But what if we looked beyond the formulas and considered a more imaginative origin for some of its concepts? This article explores the intriguing possibility that physics, and even cosmology, might share a surprising kinship with metaheuristics and fantastical fiction.

Random Forests Regression For Soft Interval Data, Paul Gaona-Partida, Chih-Ching Yeh, Yan Sun, Adele Cutler Jan 2024

Random Forests Regression For Soft Interval Data, Paul Gaona-Partida, Chih-Ching Yeh, Yan Sun, Adele Cutler

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications

Analyzing soft interval data for uncertainty quantification has attracted much attention recently. Within this context, regression methods for interval data have been extensively studied. As most existing works focus on linear models, it is important to note that many problems in practice are nonlinear in nature and the development of nonlinear regression tools for interval data is crucial. This paper proposes an interval-valued random forests model that defines the splitting criterion of variance reduction based on an L2 type metric in the space of compact intervals. The model simultaneously considers the centers and ranges of the interval data as …

An Investigation Of Students' Modes Of Thinking Concerning Linearity In Linear Algebra, Noa Levy Jan 2024

An Investigation Of Students' Modes Of Thinking Concerning Linearity In Linear Algebra, Noa Levy

Honors Undergraduate Theses

The intent of this thesis is to investigate student approaches to linearity within a linear algebra context, focusing on definitional, computational, and theoretical skills. Linear algebra’s abstract nature constitutes a major challenge for a significant sector of STEM students, with the course often serving as undergraduates’ first encounter with mathematical proofs and extrapolations. The current student struggle is reflected through the prominent gap in knowledge derived from a lack of a concrete understanding of rudimentary concepts (like linearity), pivotal to student success. As such, this investigation aimed to bridge this gap by considering students’ modes of thinking regarding the elementary …

Infusing Machine Learning And Computational Linguistics Into Clinical Notes, Funke V. Alabi, Onyeka Omose, Omotomilola Jegede Jan 2024

Infusing Machine Learning And Computational Linguistics Into Clinical Notes, Funke V. Alabi, Onyeka Omose, Omotomilola Jegede

Mathematics & Statistics Faculty Publications

Entering free-form text notes into Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems takes a lot of time from clinicians. A large portion of this paper work is viewed as a burden, which cuts into the amount of time doctors spend with patients and increases the risk of burnout. We will see how machine learning and computational linguistics can be infused in the processing of taking clinical notes. We are presenting a new language modeling task that predicts the content of notes conditioned on historical data from a patient's medical record, such as patient demographics, lab results, medications, and previous notes, with the …

Inexact Fixed-Point Proximity Algorithm For The ℓ₀ Sparse Regularization Problem, Ronglong Fang, Yuesheng Xu, Mingsong Yan Jan 2024

Inexact Fixed-Point Proximity Algorithm For The ℓ₀ Sparse Regularization Problem, Ronglong Fang, Yuesheng Xu, Mingsong Yan

Mathematics & Statistics Faculty Publications

We study inexact fixed-point proximity algorithms for solving a class of sparse regularization problems involving the ℓ₀ norm. Specifically, the ℓ₀ model has an objective function that is the sum of a convex fidelity term and a Moreau envelope of the ℓ₀ norm regularization term. Such an ℓ₀ model is non-convex. Existing exact algorithms for solving the problems require the availability of closed-form formulas for the proximity operator of convex functions involved in the objective function. When such formulas are not available, numerical computation of the proximity operator becomes inevitable. This leads to inexact iteration algorithms. We investigate in this …

Point Modules And Line Modules Of Certain Quadratic Quantum Projective Spaces, Jose E. Lozano Jan 2024

Point Modules And Line Modules Of Certain Quadratic Quantum Projective Spaces, Jose E. Lozano

Mathematics Dissertations

During the past 36 years, some research in noncommutative algebra has been driven by attempts to classify AS-regular algebras of global dimension four. Such algebras are often considered to be noncommutative analogues of polynomial rings. In the 1980s, Artin, Tate, and Van den Bergh introduced a projective scheme that parametrizes the point modules over a graded algebra generated by elements of degree one. In 2002, Shelton and Vancliff introduced the concept of line scheme, which is a projective scheme that parametrizes line modules.

This dissertation is in two parts. In the first part, we consider a 1-parameter family of quadratic …
