Artificial Floating Islands: Cities Of The Future, Earl A. Proetzel
Artificial Floating Islands: Cities Of The Future, Earl A. Proetzel
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
This report will investigate the feasibility of large-scale artificial floating islands, to solve problems posed by over-population and environment-burdening activities in coastal areas. The investigation will focus on the historic, technical, utilizable and legal aspects of artificial floating islands. Although this report exemplifies artificial floating islands developed for offshore cities, electrical power generation and basing for the military, its content is applicable to any offshore floating development.

Annean Station Management Plan, A A. Mitchell
Annean Station Management Plan, A A. Mitchell
Resource management technical reports
Annean Station's carrying capacity has been estimated at 8,340 sheep on its 168,539 hectares. The halophyte pastures of Carnegie Land System were in good condition while those of Mileura Land System were in poor condition. The wandarrie pasture of the Belele Land System was in fair to poor condition. This system comnprises 34 per cent of Annean's area and is estimated as capable of presently carrying 2,900 stock.
Soviet Predatory Practices In The U. S. Liner Trades: Strategy And Prospects, Daniel D. Thompson
Soviet Predatory Practices In The U. S. Liner Trades: Strategy And Prospects, Daniel D. Thompson
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
The impressive growth of the Soviet Merchant Marine during the past two decades. and its anticipated future expansion have given rise to questions concerning the likely future impact of that fleet on world shipping and the relative importance of maritime commerce to the Soviet Union itself. U.S. owners and regulatory bodies have, along with other Western owners and shipping bodies, consistently pointed an accusing finger at the Soviets for attempting to capture more than a fair share of general cargo tonnage in the world liner market. Charges of predatory Soviet rate cutting practices have been widely advertised by American operators …

Redevelopment In Jacksonville Beach, Florida: A Coastal Zone Management Perspective, Keith E. Falt
Redevelopment In Jacksonville Beach, Florida: A Coastal Zone Management Perspective, Keith E. Falt
Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers
The purpose of this paper is to provide the community leaders and the concerned citizens of Jacksonville Beach, Florida with an understanding of the issues involved with development of the beachfront of that community. Too often development projects are planned and implemented with those responsible unaware of many of the factors which will impact the success of the project. The unusual qualities of the shoreline mandate careful consideration.

Hydraulic Analysis Of Surcharged Storm Sewer Systems, Don J. Wood, Gregory C. Heitzman
Hydraulic Analysis Of Surcharged Storm Sewer Systems, Don J. Wood, Gregory C. Heitzman
KWRRI Research Reports
Surcharge in a storm sewer system is the condition in which an entire sewer section is submerged and the pipe is flowing full under pressure. Flow in a surcharged storm sewer is essentially slowly varying unsteady pipe flow and methods for analyzing this type of flow are investigated. In this report the governing equations for unsteady fluid flow in pressurized storm sewers are presented. From these governing equations three numerical models are developed using various assumptions and simplifications. These flow models are applied to several example storm sewer systems under surcharge conditions. Plots of hydraulic grade and flow throughout the …
Climate Model For Winter Wheat Yield Simulation, Kenneth G. Hubbard, R.J. Hanks
Climate Model For Winter Wheat Yield Simulation, Kenneth G. Hubbard, R.J. Hanks
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
Winter wheat yields were simlulated by a model requiring climatic data as input for estimating crop evapotranspiration and phenological development. An assumed relationship between the winter wheat yields and the amount and timing of crop water use was optimized to simulate yields for two case studies: a single season, irrigated wheat study, and a multi-year, dryland wheat study. The model explained more than 90% of the variance of wheat yields in the irrigated study where total irrigation amounts varied between 0 and 55 cm. About 40% of the variance was explained for annual yields from a 21-year, dryland winter wheat …

Spatial And Temporal Variations In Long-Term Normal Percent Possible Solar Radiation Levels In The United States, Robert C. Balling, Randall S. Cerveny
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
The purpose of this study was to analyze the time and space variations in long-term monthly-averaged daily percent possible solar radiation levels in the United States. Both principal components analysis and harmonic analysis were used to identify the influences of various synoptic-scale climatological phenomena on solar radiation receipt. Generally, an annual cycle was found with maximum percent possible radiation levels occurring in July. In many regions the temporal variance structure deviated from this general annual cycle. The results, which are useful in both theoretical and practical studies, lead to a better understanding of the climatology of solar radiation in the …

Mammals Of The Northern Great Plains, J. Knox Jones Jr., David M. Armstrong, Robert F. Hoffmann, Clyde Jones
Mammals Of The Northern Great Plains, J. Knox Jones Jr., David M. Armstrong, Robert F. Hoffmann, Clyde Jones
University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers
For the purposes of this book, the Northern Great Plains are defined as the states of Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. As a physiographic concept, the northern part of the great interior grasslands of North America is, of course, much broader in geographic extent than the Dakotas and Nebraska, but the three states lie in the heart of the region, and thus the title for this work seems appropriate. Our expectations in writing Mammals of the Northern Great Plains were to provide a comprehensive, yet semitechnical, treatmeat of free-living mammals that would prove useful to specialist and nonspecialist alike. …
