New Sources of Water for Energy Development and Growth: Interbasin Transfers: A Short Course (Summer Conference, June 7-10)

Even before the [Natural Resources Law] Center was established [in the fall of 1981], the [University of Colorado] School of Law was organizing annual natural resources law summer short courses. To date four programs have been presented:

- July 1980: "Federal Lands, Laws and Policies-and the Development of Natural Resources"

- June 1981: "Water Resources Allocation: Laws and Emerging Issues"

- June 1982: "New Sources of Water for Energy Development and Growth: lnterbasin Transfers"

- June 1983: "Groundwater: Allocation; Development and Pollution"

Classification And Management Of Wetlands In The Western Kentucky Coal Field, William J. Mitsch, Robert W. Bosserman, Paul L. Hill Jr., Jan R. Taylor Mar 1982

Classification And Management Of Wetlands In The Western Kentucky Coal Field, William J. Mitsch, Robert W. Bosserman, Paul L. Hill Jr., Jan R. Taylor

KWRRI Research Reports

This is the first research report of a three-year project on wetland identification and management criteria in the western Kentucky coal field. The region is approximately 12,000 square kilometers and, due to its slight relief, contains many wetlands, some contiguous with surface coal mining operations. The overall objectives of the research project are 1) to identify, classify, and map wetlands in the western Kentucky coal field; 2) to evaluate the major biotic and abiotic factors that affect those wetlands; and 3) to develop strategies for the proper management of those wetlands.

The first report of this three-year project has involved …

A Digital Archive Of Northern Hemisphere Snow Cover, November 1966 Through December 1980, Kenneth F. Dewey, Richard Heim Jr. Jan 1982

A Digital Archive Of Northern Hemisphere Snow Cover, November 1966 Through December 1980, Kenneth F. Dewey, Richard Heim Jr.

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

The purpose of this article is to acquaint the research community with a new data base—a digitized archive of Northern Hemisphere snow cover. Historically, those researchers who needed snow cover data for climatic and atmospheric boundary layer studies have had to rely on the irregularly spaced (and in some regions, sparse) grid of point observations. Northern Hemisphere Weekly Snow and Ice Cover Charts, which are created from analyzed satellite imagery at the National Earth Satellite Service (NESS), have been available on an operational basis since late 1966. Each of these weekly charts for the period November 1966 through December 1980 …

Agricultural Meteorology In China, Norman J. Rosenberg Jan 1982

Agricultural Meteorology In China, Norman J. Rosenberg

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

During nearly five weeks in China (May-June 1981), the author visited scientific institutions and experiment stations engaged in agricultural meteorology and climatology research and teaching. The facilities, studies, and research programs at each institution are described and the scientific work in these fields is evaluated. Agricultural meteorology and climatology are faced with some unique problems and opportunities in China and progress in these fields may be of critical importance to that nation in coming years. The author includes culinary notes and comments on protocol in China.

A Preliminary Assessment Of Nutrient Loading Into Narragansett Bay Due To Urban Runoff, Lynne Carter Hanson Jan 1982

A Preliminary Assessment Of Nutrient Loading Into Narragansett Bay Due To Urban Runoff, Lynne Carter Hanson

Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers

This study is a component of a more comprehensive investigation at the Marine Ecosystems Research Laboratory, (MERL), University of Rhode Island, that was undertaken in order to assess the potential for eutrophication in both its meanings as a natural and man-induced process occurring in the upper portions of Narragansett Bay and its watershed. This assessment required identification and quantification of the various inputs in order to establish the annual loading and eventual effects of the four important nutrients; ammonia, nitrate-nitrite, silicate and phosphate.

Delimitatin Of The Seaward Extent Of United States Jurisdiction Over The Mineral Resources Of Its Continental Shelf, Therese Anne Landry Jan 1982

Delimitatin Of The Seaward Extent Of United States Jurisdiction Over The Mineral Resources Of Its Continental Shelf, Therese Anne Landry

Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers

This thesis provides a seaward delimitation of United States jurisdiction over the mineral resources of its continental shelf. It does not set lateral maritime boundaries between the United States and its neighbors. Despite the abundance of literature regarding the continental shelf concept, United States shelf limits have not been demarcated in any precise detail. In order to encourage efficient utilization of offshore mineral resources and to avoid unnecessary legal problems, such determination is important. Initially, the conflicting conceptions of the geological and legal continental shelf are discussed. The evolution of the continental shelf as both a physical feature of the …

Utah Geothermal Institutional Handbook, A User's Guide Of Agencies, Regulations, Permits And Aids For Geothermal Development, L. Ward Wagstaff, Stanley Green

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

The purpose of this handbook is to assist interested persons in understanding and complying with the various laws, regulations, and procedures associated with the development of geothermal resources in Utah. Included in the Handbook are lists of the main permits required and the names of agencies and persons associated with permits; a summary of pertinent laws, regulations, and permits; and charts outlining typical development and permitting procedures. The Handbook is intended as a general guide; the best and most reliable guidance for a prospective developer is through direct interaction with the respective regulatory agencies.
