ABOUT THE TEST REPORT AND USE OF THE DATA

The test data contained in this report are a tabulation of the results of a series of tests. Due to the restricted format of these pages, only a limited amount of data and not all of the tractor specifications are included. The full OECD report contains usually about 30 pages of data and specifications. The test data were obtained for each tractor under similar conditions and therefore, provide a means of comparison of performance based on a limited set of reported data.

The Use And Influence Of Technology In Mathematics Education, Ma. Louise Antonette N. De Las Peñas, Wei-Chi Yang

Mathematics Faculty Publications

The use of various types of technologies in the classroom and examinations is growing rapidly and is strongly influencing teaching and learning practices. In this paper, we will look at particular situations on how various technologies such as numerically capable calculators, graphics calculators, and technological tools that are CAS enabled or have CAS with Dynamic Geometry, impact students' learning. We also discuss briefly the educational opportunities that are made available by the emergence of graphics calculators with capabilities of handling electronic learning activities, such as Casio’s Class Pad (see [1]) and Casio’s 9860 graphics calculator.

An Investigation Of Secondary Teachers’ Knowledge Of Rate Of Change In The Context Of Teaching A Standards-Based Curriculum, Jihwa Noh Dec 2004

An Investigation Of Secondary Teachers’ Knowledge Of Rate Of Change In The Context Of Teaching A Standards-Based Curriculum, Jihwa Noh

Dissertations

This study investigated teachers' mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge with respect to rate of change in the context of teaching a Standards-based high school mathematics curriculum that emphasizes rate of change as a central theme, the Core-Plus Mathematics Project (CPMP) materials. A framework was designed to provide a comprehensive guide for analyzing different aspects of rate of change knowledge incorporating existing frameworks relative to rate of change, NCTM recommendations described in Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics andPrinciples and Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM, 2000), and research related to pedagogical understanding of rate of change.

Mathematics Placement Test: Helping Students Succeed, Norma Rueda, Carole Sokolowski Oct 2004

Mathematics Placement Test: Helping Students Succeed, Norma Rueda, Carole Sokolowski

Mathematics Faculty Publications

A study was conducted at Merrimack College in Massachusetts to compare the grades of students who took the recommended course as determined by their mathematics placement exam score and those who did not follow this recommendation. The goal was to decide whether the mathematics placement exam used at Merrimack College was effective in placing students in the appropriate mathematics class. During five years, first-year students who took a mathematics course in the fall semester were categorized into four groups: those who took the recommended course, those who took an easier course than recommended, those who took a course more difficult …

Reports (PLI Education)

In the first three months of this agreement, UNLV has met with the Outside Las Vegas Environmental Education Committee to establish the duties of and create detailed job announcements for the project managers for the Environmental Education Strategy and for the Forever Earth/WOW Program. Although the university had planned to meet with the committee at its June meeting, that meeting was cancelled due to summer scheduling conflicts among the committee members. Subsequently, Dr. Peg Rees and Nancy Flagg met with the committee on July 14,2004. The committee was brought up-to-date on goals and deliverables of the task agreement, UNLV’s role …

How We Think About And Prepare To Teach Physics, Dewey I. Dykstra Aug 2004

How We Think About And Prepare To Teach Physics, Dewey I. Dykstra

Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations

We have been preparing physics teachers in the same manner for many decades. Yet, physics education research reveals for some observers disturbing evidence of little or no change in understanding the phenomena occurs as a direct result of physics instruction from elementary school through the college years. The apparent compatibility between these learning results and prevailing paradigm enables the construction of a description the paradigm. If it can be demonstrated that there is even just one alternative paradigm from which powerful alternative pedagogical practice is derived, are we not obligated to change how we prepare to teach physics?

Lewis And Clark State Park Signs, Robert F. Diffendal Jr., Les Howard Jul 2004

Lewis And Clark State Park Signs, Robert F. Diffendal Jr., Les Howard

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Bob Diffendal wrote text and Les Howard created maps for new Lewis and Clark signs at Ponca State Park on the Missouri River.

The Corps of Discovery led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark reached what is now southeastern Nebraska on July 10, 1804. It arrived at the point on the Missouri River adjacent to what is now Ponca State Park on August 22, 1804; and entered fully into South Dakota on September 8, 1804. Over this span of nearly two months members of the expedition saw and described many geologic features. The locations of some of the more prominent …

The Morphology Of Steve, Eugenie C. Scott, Nicholas J. Matzke, Glenn Branch, Steven Mccullagh

Faculty Articles

This report is part of Project Steve. Project Steve is, among other things, the first scientific analysis of the sex, geographic location, and body size of scientists named Steve. We performed this research for the best of all reasons: we discovered that we had lots of data. No scientist can resist the opportunity to analyze data, regardless of where that data came from or why it was gathered.
