Time series resulting from aggregation of several sub-series can be seasonally adjusted directlyor indirectly. With model-based seasonal adjustment, the sub-series may also be considered as amultivariate system of series and the analysis may be done jointly. This approach has considerableadvantage over the indirect method, as it utilises the covariance structure between the sub-series.This paper compares a model-based univariate and multivariate approach to seasonal adjustment.Firstly, the univariate basic structural model (BSM) is applied directly to the aggregate series. Phenotyping assays in plant pathology using detached plant parts are multi-phase experimental processes. Such assays involve growing plants in field or controlled-environment trials (Phase 1) and then subjecting a sample removed from each plant to disease assessment, usually under laboratory conditions (Phase 2). Each phase may be subject to nongenetic sources of variation. To be able to separate these sources of variation in both phases from genetic sources of variation requires a multi-phase experiment with an appropriate experimental design and statistical analysis. A Comparison Of Analysis Methods For Late-Stage Variety Evaluation Trials, Sue Welham, Beverley Gogel, Alison Smith, Robin Thompson, Brian Cullis

The statistical analysis of late-stage variety evaluation trials using a mixed model is described, with one- or two-stage approaches to the analysis. Two sets of trials, from Australia and the UK, were used to provide realistic scenarios for a simulation study to evaluate the different methods of analysis. This study showed that a one-stage approach gave the most accurate predictions of variety performance overall or within each environment, across a range of models, as measured by mean squared error of prediction or realized genetic gain. A weighted two-stage approach performed adequately for variety predictions both overall and within environments, but …

We report an analysis of a series of uniformity field trials using the technique proposed by Gilmour, Cullis, and Verbyla. In particular, we clarify the role of the sample variogram and present a range of enhanced graphical diagnostics to aid the spatial modeling process.We highlight the implications of the presence of extraneous variation related to commonly used agronomic practices, such as serpentine harvesting.

We investigate the question: when is a higher-rank graph C*-algebra approximately finite-dimensional? We prove that the absence of an appropriate higher-rank analogue of a cycle is necessary. We show that it is not in general sufficient, but that it is sufficient for higher-rank graphs with finitely many vertices. We give a detailed description of the structure of the C*-algebra of a row-finite locally convex higher rank graph with finitely many vertices. Our results are also sufficient to establish that if the C*-algebra of a higher-rank graph is AF, then its every ideal must be gauge-invariant. We prove that for a …

Multimedia is ubiquitously available online with large amounts of video increasingly consumed through Web sites such as YouTube or Google Video. However, online multimedia typically limits users to visual/auditory stimulus, with onscreen visual media accompanied by audio. The learner model presented in our earlier work was partitioned into smaller elements in the form of learner profiles, which collectively represent the entire learning process. This paper presents an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) for delivering adapted learning content to mobile learners. This paper investigates cervical cancer diagnosis based on the morphological characteristics of cervical cells. The developed algorithms cover several steps: pre-processing, image segmentation, nuclei and cytoplasm detection, feature calculation, and classification. The K-means clustering algorithm based on colour segmentation is used to segment cervical biopsy images into five regions: background, nuclei, red blood cell, stroma and cytoplasm. The morphological characteristics of cervical cells are used for feature extraction of cervical histopathology images. This study investigates the effect of multiple sources using STS across a Time-Hopping-PPM Modulation that is over an UWB Saleh-Valenzuela channel with each source using two transmit antennas. We model and analyze this system, showing that the presence of such MAI results in a significant degradation in BER performance. Simulation results show that for strong signal strength of interfering MAI signals degradation in BER performance is observed for the cases where we have five and 10 distinct MAI sources present when using Walsh-Hadamard thirty two chip spreading sequences. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for extracting simple low-degree equations (e.g. quadratic ones) in addition to the linear ones, obtainable from the original cube attack by Dinur and Shamir at EUROCRYPT 2009. This extended cube attack can be successfully applied even to cryptosystems in which the original cube attack may fail due to the attacker's inability in finding sufficiently many independent linear equations. As an application of our extended method, we exhibit a side channel cube attack against the PRESENT block cipher using the Hamming weight leakage model. In this paper, we study property preservation capabilities of several domain extension transforms for hash functions with respect to multiple enhanced security notions. The transforms investigated include MD with strengthening padding (sMD), HAIFA, Enveloped Shoup (ESh) and Nested Linear Hash (nLH). While the first two transforms and their straightforward variants are among the most popular ones in practical hash designs including several SHA-3 candidates, the last two transforms (i.e. ESh and nLH) are mainly of a theoretical interest in the analysis of multi-property-preservation (MPP) capabilities of hash domain extenders. The paper outlines earlier HSR studies in Australia and Sydney airport issues. It briefly considers aviation fuel use on the 10 top routes of the Melbourne-Sydney and Sydney-Brisbane corridors (some 571 million litres in 2009) and conditionally quantifies the potential reduction of aviation fuel and greenhouse gas emissions that could result from the introduction of HSR in Australia.
