Introduction
The purpose of this research endeavor was to determine the structures of the adducts of dichloroketene with diphenylfulvene and benzodiphenylfulvene. Structure elucidation was attempted by chemical degradation and nmr analysis.
The structures of the adducts of dichloroketene with cyclopentadiene1,2 and indene3,4 have been determined by previous workers. The influence of the exocyclic double bond on the mode of cycloaddition is unknown.
Cobalt(Iii) Complexes With 1,2-Propanediaminediacetic Acid, Paul John Magnell
Cobalt(Iii) Complexes With 1,2-Propanediaminediacetic Acid, Paul John Magnell
Masters Theses
Introduction
Aminocarboxylic acid cobalt(III) complexes have been of interest to inorganic chemists since 1909 when Ley and Winkler isolated violet and rose colored geometric isomers of tris amino acid complexes of glycine and alanine.1 More recently, considerable interest has been shown in the study of the stereochemistry and optical activity arising from configurational and vicinal interactions of these complexes. Nuclear magnetic resonance of the methylene protons on the carboxylate portion of the coordinated ligand has also been studied.
Of immediate interest to this study is the stereo-chemistry of complexes containing flexible tetradentate ligands. A tetradentate ligand may be constructed …

A Summary Of Lake Mcconaughy Rainbow Trout Spawntaking Activities, Rod Van Velson
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts
The objective of this activity is to raise and stock progeny from adult Lake McConaughy rainbow trout for the purpose of: (1) establishing spawning runs of McConaughy strain rainbow trout in streams which have the potential to support reproduction, (2) develop a stocking program for streams which have a coldwater habitat but lack suitable spawning areas (these rainbow, upon reaching a size of seven to nine inches will migrate downstream to Lake McConaughy. They will return to the streams in their third and fourth years weighing 2.0 to 6.0 pounds), and (3) providing additional life history and management information about …
Computer Implemented Synthesis Of Multiple Level Combinational Networks, Alfredo Caldwell
Computer Implemented Synthesis Of Multiple Level Combinational Networks, Alfredo Caldwell
Masters Theses
The purpose of this investigation has been to implement, in the form of computer programs, two algorithms which are used in the synthesis of multiple level combinational networks. The algorithms implemented were devised by Professor Paul E. Wood, Jr., of M.I.T., and by Professor Eugene L. Lawler, of The University of Michigan. In the course of the investigation a more efficient way of implementing the two algorithms was discovered. The combined version of the algorithms takes advantage of the best features of the original algorithms.
In the synthesis of multiple level combinational networks minimal complexity is high desirable. The whole …
The Fishes Of The Nemaha Basin, Nebraska, Larry Witt
The Fishes Of The Nemaha Basin, Nebraska, Larry Witt
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications
The possible effects of proposed watershed management practices on fish resources of the Nemaha Basin were poorly understood; thus, a study was undertaken to ascertain the species of fish present and their relative abundance and distribution within the basin. Thirty-five species were collected, 34 of them from the Big Nemaha River system and 28 from the Little Nemaha River system. These data may be used as a basis for future studies of fish population changes in the Nemaha Basin and possibly as a basis for studies in other watersheds.

Perturbation Theory Of The Hooke's Law Model For The Two‐Electron Atom, Ronald White, W. Byers Brown
Perturbation Theory Of The Hooke's Law Model For The Two‐Electron Atom, Ronald White, W. Byers Brown
Center for Advanced Mineral and Metallurgical Processing (CAMP)
The Hooke model for the two‐electron atom replaces the electron–nuclear interaction by a harmonic oscillator potential, but retains the Coulomb repulsion of the electrons. The first‐order perturbation equation for the electron repulsion is solved analytically, and the exact first‐, second‐, and third‐order perturbation energies are obtained. A similar Z-1 perturbation treatment is carried out for the Hartree–Fock equation and other variational approximations. The Z-1 of the correlation energy is compared with that for helium-like atoms and found to be similar.
The Effects Of Channelization In The Missouri River On Fish And Fish-Food Organisms, Earl R. Kendle
The Effects Of Channelization In The Missouri River On Fish And Fish-Food Organisms, Earl R. Kendle
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts
Plans by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to channel the Missouri River from Sioux City to Yankton are of great concern to the ecologists interested in this section of the river. The channelization of the last remaining relatively natural sketch of the Missouri River below the main stem reservoirs could prove to be ecologically disastrous. As the present time too little is known in the form of scientifically proven facts of the likely effects on fish and other organisms inhabitating the river. The populations of certain species of fish far downstream from and in the section to be channelized …
Geology, Geochemistry And Lava Tubes In Quaternary Basalts, Northeastern Part Of Zuni Lava Field, Valencia County, New Mexico, James Douglas Causey
Geology, Geochemistry And Lava Tubes In Quaternary Basalts, Northeastern Part Of Zuni Lava Field, Valencia County, New Mexico, James Douglas Causey
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
Basaltic volcanism in the northeastern part of the Zuni lava field is related to a north-northeast trending regional fracture system. This is shown by elongation of centers and their alignment. However, .the fractures do not control the direction of lava tubes.
There are three distinct stages of volcanic activity common to the Zuni lava field:
1) early pyroclastic eruptions,
2) quiescent flows or fissure eruptions
3) late pyroclastic eruptions.
Evidence for the first stage is sometimes lacking, but the second and third stages can always be seen.
The basalts range from weakly tholeiitic to alkali in nature. Potassium content varies …

Bioassay Procedures For Oil And Oil Dispersant Toxicity Evaluation, Gilles Laroche, Ronald Eisler, Clarence M. Tarzwell
United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications
Hazards to marine and estuarine fauna associated with offshore drilling of oil and with transport of large quantities of oils via tankers are numerous and understandable. At present, there is a growing body of evidence on adverse effects to these organisms of crude oil (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9) and chemical oil counteracting agents or dispersants (5) (6) (9) (10) (11) (12) (13) (14) (15) (16) (17). These effects are well summarized by Smith (18) and by Carthy and Arthur (19).
Comparatively few workers have studied the influence of oil-dispersant mixtures of marine life. Studies by …
Excitation Of The (2P2)3P State Of Helium Near Threshold, Paul Burrow
Excitation Of The (2P2)3P State Of Helium Near Threshold, Paul Burrow
Paul Burrow Publications
The trapped-electron method is applied to the excitation by electron impact of the (2p2)3P state, the lowest doubly excited state of helium which is stable against auto-ionization. The energy of this state, 59.64±0.08 eV, is in good agreement with theory. An estimate of the slope of the total cross section for excitation of the (2p2)3P state at threshold gives a value of 4 × 10-20 cm2/eV.

Management of any game or fur animal is an effort to insure an annual harvestable surplus. Much of this effort must be placed upon the land. The development and maintenance of habitat--the place where the animals can live--constitutes a large portion of this effort. The objective of habitat development is the increase and improvement of homes for wildlife and thereby the increase in numbers and improvement of the quality of the animals produced. Another important and continuous job of game management. is the annual check on populations--their ups and downs. Information on the numbers of animals is necessary if only …

Instrumentation And Development Of Techniques To Measure And Evaluate Meteorological Parameters Important To Hydrology, Duane G. Chadwick
Reports
Hydro-meteorological instrumentation concepts are discussed. The necessity for an economic and reliable telemetering system is recognized and ways are shown how to achieve this objective. Particular discussion is given on total-precipitation and water-content-of-snow sensing. A method is also presented showing how to make isohyetal plots of telemetered precipitation information on an x-y plotter by use of a resistance paper method in conjunction with an analog computer.

Digital Systems For On-Site Collection For Water Quality Analysis, M. K. Testerman
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
A prototype system has been developed for recording and transmitting digital data at a remote water quality monitoring station in an unattended manner. As many as eight analog signals from transducers, which measure water quality characteristics such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, chlorides, conductivity, redox, and turbidity, are converted to digital signals and recorded in binary coded decimal format on magnetic tape. This unit may be contacted from a central station for playback of the day's recording. The transmitted data can be recorded at the central station by teletype. Each data record includes a time-of-day "word" so that all data …
I. Existence Of Eigenvalues For Integral Equations; Ii. A Collocation Method For Boundary Value Problems, Robert Dodd Russell
I. Existence Of Eigenvalues For Integral Equations; Ii. A Collocation Method For Boundary Value Problems, Robert Dodd Russell
Mathematics & Statistics ETDs
I. The existence of eigenvalues is shown for certain classes of integral equations with continuous kernels. A number of interesting and useful results are thereby treated in a unified and relatively elementary way. The simplicity of these new proofs make the results accessible to introductory courses on the theory of integral equations.
II. Collocation with piecewise polynomial functions is developed as a method for solving two-point bour:rlary value problems. Convergence is shown for a general class of linear problems and a rather broad class of nonlinear problems. Some computational examples are presented to illustrate the wide applicability and efficiency of …

Rate 1/2 binary convolutional codes are analyzed and a lower bound on free distance in terms of the minimum distances of two associated cyclic codes ìs derived. Next, the complexity of computing the free distance is discussed and a counterexample to a conjecture on the relationship of row distance to free distance for systematic codes Ìs presented. Finally, an improved Gilbert bound for definite decoding is derived.
