Some Stochastic Models In Reliability., R. Natarajan Dr. Feb 1969

Some Stochastic Models In Reliability., R. Natarajan Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The work presented in this thesis was carried out under the supervision of Dr. J. Sethuraman, Research & Training School, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, and is devoted to the study of some stochastic models of standby and parallel redundant systems. Some of the reliability characteristics studied are the expected time to system failure, the long-run availability, expected number of system failures in a given interval of time, interval reliability etc. These reliability characteristics will be useful in the better design of systems and making management decisions in improving system reliability. The investigations carried out in this thesis are presented in four …

Contribution To The Ergodic Theory., S. Natarajan Dr. Feb 1969

Contribution To The Ergodic Theory., S. Natarajan Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Ergodic theory is chiefly concerned with the study of transformations on a measure space which preserve the measure. Interesting classes of such transformations are the classes of ergodic, weakly mixing and mixing transformations. The bulk of this thesis is devoted to the study of a closely related family of transformations called the we akly stable transformations; these are more general than the weakly mäxing transformations. This thesis is divided into three parts. Part I contains preliminary ideas, notations and some results on the invertibility and continuity properties of transition functions (Chapters 1 and 2). In Chapter 3 we collect known results …

Contribution To Linear Quaternionic Analysis., K. Viswanath Dr. Feb 1969

Contribution To Linear Quaternionic Analysis., K. Viswanath Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Several articles have appeared in recent years which discuss linear transformations on finite-dimensional vector spaces over the quaternions in terms of matrices, but the general infinite -dimensional situation does not seen to have received much attention. In particular, very little is known about linear transformations on quaternionic Hilbert spaces apart from the obvious theory of Hermitian operators. There are hardly any discussion of this subject, apart from the brief treatment of Finkelstein, Jauch, Schiminovitch and Speiser in their fundamental paper on the foundations of quaternion quantum mechanics (1962), which gives spectral theorems for unitary operators and skew hermitian operators and …

Meteorological Effects On Cosmic Rays At Albuquerque, New Mexico., David Nason Glidden Feb 1969

Meteorological Effects On Cosmic Rays At Albuquerque, New Mexico., David Nason Glidden

Physics & Astronomy ETDs

Ground-based observations of cosmic-ray intensity have the disadvantage of being more sensitive to variations of atmospheric temperature and pressure than to the more interesting variations in the primary cosmic radiation. It is, therefore, imperative to correct the recorded cosmic-ray intensity for variations of atmospheric origin before studies can be made of the smaller variations of the primary cosmic ray intensity.

In this thesis an attempt has been made to remove the variations of atmospheric origin from the cosmic-ray intensity recorded simultaneously by a neutron monitor and a meson telescope located at Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was found that the neutron …

Igneous Geology Of The Rio Puerco Necks, Sandoval And Valencia Counties, New Mexico., William Travis Brown Jr. Feb 1969

Igneous Geology Of The Rio Puerco Necks, Sandoval And Valencia Counties, New Mexico., William Travis Brown Jr.

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

In the Rio Puerco valley of Valencia and Sandoval Counties, New Mexico, immediately east of Mount Taylor and its associated lava flows are a series of ten prominent and exposed basaltic rocks. These bodies consist of alkali basalts exhibiting no systematic mineralogic or compositional trends throughout the area. The alkali basalts are composed of olivine, augite, plagioclase (labradorite), and opaques in a trachytic to felty groundmass. Each neck was emplaced by means of a convection cell mechanism that allowed the surrounding Cretaceous sediments to remain undisturbed by the intrusion. Contained in the alkali basalts are ubiquitous ultramafic inclusions of lherzolite …

Tb34: Chemical And Physical Properties Of The Charlton, Sutton, Paxton, And Woodbridge Soil Mapping Units, R. V. Rourke, C. Beek

Technical Bulletins

Charlton, Sutton, Paxton and Woodbridge soil series were each sampled at five locations. Chemical and physical properties evaluated included particle size distribution, soil reaction, moisture retention, bulk density, coarse fragment volume, exchangeable bases and acidity, saturated hydraulic conductivity, organic carbon and percolation. Properties were evaluated on a horizonal basis whenever possible. Sampling depth was to 40 inches. The samples represent a range of characteristics within each soil series. Each site is not to be considered modal for the particular soil series but was considered to within the range of characteristics of the series at the time of sampling.

Projected Hartree Product Wavefunctions. Ii. General Considerations Of Young Operators, Gordon A. Gallup Feb 1969

Projected Hartree Product Wavefunctions. Ii. General Considerations Of Young Operators, Gordon A. Gallup

Gordon Gallup Publications

A discussion is given of the forms of two specific and one general Young operator for the irreducible representations of Sn important for fermion space functions. Comparisons are made of the projected Hartree product version of Löwdon's projected Hartree–Fock method with CI calculations. ©1969 American Institute of Physics

Projected Hartree Product Wavefunctions. Iii. Comparison With The Ci Method For H2, R.C. Morrison, Gordon A. Gallup

Gordon Gallup Publications

Calculations of the energy of H2 have been performed using both the projected Hartree–Fock (PHF) method and a full CI method in the same basis for comparison of the two methods. It is discovered that PHF can account for 86% of the correlation energy, whereas CI will account for 88% of the correlation energy. ©1969 American Institute of Physics

Quasifree Knockout Of Deuterons In The ⁶Li(Α,Αd)⁴He Reaction At 23.6 Mev, K. Bähr, T. Becker, Oleksa-Myron Bilaniuk, R. Jahr

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Works

α−d correlations in quasi-elastic scattering of 23.6-MeV α particles on the deuteron cluster of the ⁶Li target were measured in and off the principal reaction plane. Despite the low c.m. energy of 14.2 MeV, the impulse approximation provides a reasonable description of the quasifree process. Computations were based on the asymptotic α−d S-state wave function and on the cluster-model wave function of ⁶Li. Insensitivity of the fits to the details of the ⁶Li cluster-model wave function indicates an extreme surface reaction mechanism. The full width at half-maximum of the spectator momentum distribution was found to be 48±6 MeV/c. By comparing …
