Applying Copper And Zinc Fertilizers To Cereals, H M. Fisher

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Most light soils with a sandy or gravelly surface are likely to need copper and zinc; heavier clay or loamy soils mostly do not.

Bare Patch And Poor Emergence Of Cereals. 3. Crusting Of The Soil Surface, S C. Chambers Jan 1962

Bare Patch And Poor Emergence Of Cereals. 3. Crusting Of The Soil Surface, S C. Chambers

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

In some seasons extensive bare patches occur in cereal crops sown on the heavier wheat belt soils.

Experimental results from Beverley indicate that the poor emergence in some of these plantings may be due to crusting of the soil surface.

Working the surface with light harrows may destroy the crust and improve emergence.

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Late spring frosts commonly reduce yields and affect the quality of grain in many wheat crops- especially throughout the southern, eastern and north-eastern districts.

The damage is usually localised on individual farms, but occasionally widespread damage occurs in the south of the State.

A Laboratory-Centered General Chemistry Course For College Freshmen, Alexander Vavoulis Jan 1962

A Laboratory-Centered General Chemistry Course For College Freshmen, Alexander Vavoulis

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In order to give the laboratory-centered course a trial run and to compare it with a lecture-centered course it seemed necessary to the author that both courses should be taught and compared. The latter gave rise to the following hypotheses:

  1. Students in a laboratory-centered general chemistry course show more favorable attitudes toward chemistry than do students in a lecture-centered course.
  2. Students in a laboratory-centered course show as good a subject-matter mastery as students in a lecture-centered course.

Geology Of The Esterbrook Area, Converse And Albany Counties, Wyoming, Michael Nolan Greeley Jan 1962

Geology Of The Esterbrook Area, Converse And Albany Counties, Wyoming, Michael Nolan Greeley

Masters Theses

"The Esterbrook area lies within the Laramie Range in Converse and Albany Counties, Wyoming. Exposures include Precambrian metamorphic and igneous rocks, the Tertiary White River formation, and Quaternary alluvium.

Hornblende schist and mica-quartz schist comprise the Precambrian metamorphic rocks. Foliation planes of these rocks trend northeast and dip steeply to the southeast. Metamorphic rocks of younger age probably lie to the southeast.

A distinctive, Precambrian silicic pluton of biotite-leucogranite with marginal zones of muscovite-leucogranite and alaskite passively intrudes the metamorphic rocks, generally parallel to the foliation trends. Numerous granite pegmatites show a zonal distribution around the pluton and appear to …

A Study Of Duffing's Equation, Charles Kirby Murch Jan 1962

A Study Of Duffing's Equation, Charles Kirby Murch

Masters Theses

"The unforced cases of Duffing's equation and the equation of the simple pendulum are considered by imposing certain conditions on a linear partial differential equation. Geometrical arguments are presented which lead to solutions of the special cases considered.

Undetermined functions of integration in the solutions limit their use to the approximation of systems with small non-linearity"--Abstract, page ii.

Neutron Flux Mapping Of The Msm Reactor, Cary Chow-Yuen Chen Jan 1962

Neutron Flux Mapping Of The Msm Reactor, Cary Chow-Yuen Chen

Masters Theses

"This investigation presents a mean to determine thermal neutron flux of a reactor by irradiating copper wires inside the fuel elements. The activity recorded after decay correction, is the relative thermal neutron density. Thermal neutron flux is a measure of the neutron density at thermal energy, 0.025 ev.

Gold foils irradiated at National Bureau of Standards were used as the absolute neutron flux calibration standards. The average flux of the reactor with water as the reflector ranges from 7.24 x 1010 neutrons/cm2 - sec. to 7.87 x 1010 neutrons/cm2 - sec. as obtained from the calculations. …

A Study Of Placer Tin Materials From Southern Thailand, Somkiat Ganthavee Jan 1962

A Study Of Placer Tin Materials From Southern Thailand, Somkiat Ganthavee

Masters Theses

"This thesis deals with a series of investigations of placer tin samples from a Chinteik's Tin-dredge, Gnaw District, Ranong Province, and the Tin-Pet mine, Phang-gna Province, in southern Thailand.

A brief summary of the geography and geology of Thailand as a whole has been given as a general introduction to the source of the materials studied in this thesis.

The results of sieve analyses have shown that the sluice boxes do not effectively concentrate the cassiterite grain below 0.147 mm. from the rough concentrate treated in the tin-dressing shed.

It has been found that roundness and shape determinations of quartz …

A Study Of The Behavior Of Zirconium In Aqueous Solutions And The Separation Of Radioactive Zirconium By Electrodialysis, Charles William Brauer Jr. Jan 1962

A Study Of The Behavior Of Zirconium In Aqueous Solutions And The Separation Of Radioactive Zirconium By Electrodialysis, Charles William Brauer Jr.

Masters Theses

"Nuclear reactor installations designed for power production must of necessity operate at higher energy levels than their experimental precursors. As these facilities increase in number, better solutions must be found for both technical and economic problems.

The disposal of waste materials is of primary importance and will require greater effort if satisfactory disposal methods are to keep pace with the increase of waste materials, produced by the increasing number of new nuclear facilities. The radioactive materials present in this waste material may constitute a valuable by-product from these operations if suitable and economic recovery procedures are developed. If the development …

Stylolites And Sedimentary Structures In The Cave-In-Rock Fluorspar District, Southern Illinois, Won Choon Park Jan 1962

Stylolites And Sedimentary Structures In The Cave-In-Rock Fluorspar District, Southern Illinois, Won Choon Park

Masters Theses

"This thesis deals with stylolites, slump structures, sulfides in the oolitic limestone, and geometry of the bedded fluorite deposits in the Cave-In-Rock fluorspar district, southern Illinois. Stratigraphic zones studied were: 1) the upper part of the lower Fredonia limestone member, 2) the upper part of the upper Fredonia limestone member,,and 3) the upper part of the Renault formation.

Geometry of the ore rocks and related structures was investigated. Most of the ore is layered and constitutes part of the sedimentary strata.

Slump structures were observed and studied in detail. Most of the slump structures show evidence which indicates a sedimentary …
