Proper Mixtures Of Ellis County Soils For Adobe Construction, And Their Physical Properties Part Ii, Buster Wayne Read, W. G. Read, H. A. Zinszer

Fort Hays Studies Series

Houses made of soil have been built for centuries, but until recently the trend had been away from soil to some other building material. Now, however, adobe is again beginning to be recognized as a satisfactory, reliable building material for our time.

Glacial Geology Of Wabash County, Indiana, William J. Wayne, William D. Thornbury Jan 1951

Glacial Geology Of Wabash County, Indiana, William J. Wayne, William D. Thornbury

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications

Most of the topographic features of Wabash County are of glacial origin or are glacial deposits eroded by postglacial streams. Shales, limestones, and dolomites, all Silurian, are exposed only along some of the deeper valleys. Four major rivers and six smaller streams in Wabash County flow in glacial sluiceways. Only the Eel and Wabash sluiceways carried large quantities of melt-water. The Eel River valley train occupies an interlobate position, and the Wabash Valley bears evidence of its roles as a sluiceway and as an outlet for glacial Lake Maumee in late Cary time. Three topographic areas comprise the upland part …

Studies Of Antimony Occurrence With Special Relation To Its Effective Extraction, San Jose Antimony Mines, Wadley, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, J. C. Archibald Jr. Jan 1951

Studies Of Antimony Occurrence With Special Relation To Its Effective Extraction, San Jose Antimony Mines, Wadley, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, J. C. Archibald Jr.

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The mines at San Jose which are within the Wadley unit are the largest antimony mines in Mexico. These mines produce more than half of the antimony produced by the company from its mining operations. Since the time of the author's connection with the company, a number of changes have been made in planning of development work, handling of labor, methods of mine development, cost improvement, and other problems inherent in the successful guidance of an operation.

Attempted Separation Of Similar Ionic Species By Means Of Paper Chromatography, Alexander Beresniewicz Jan 1951

Attempted Separation Of Similar Ionic Species By Means Of Paper Chromatography, Alexander Beresniewicz

Bachelors’ Theses

Chromatosraphy is a comparatively new analytical method which deals mainly with the separation of similar organic compounds. Until now, only a few papers have been published on inorganic paper chromatography. Up to the present time no investigator has made a serious attempt to organize and systematize the large amount of available information in order to clarify the underlying principles.

The author has attempted to investigate the influence of the charge of similar inorganic ions on their separation. In the case of adsorption chromatography, it may generally be stated that ions with higher valence are more readily adsorbed. Such a statement …

Intermediate Compounds In The Synthesis Of Lignin, Paul Spencer Gakle Jan 1951

Intermediate Compounds In The Synthesis Of Lignin, Paul Spencer Gakle

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The synthesis of a keto-aldehyde from salicylaldehyde and benzaldehyde was attempted. The first step was to protect the carbonyl with a non-reactive group.

The bisulfite addition product and the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of salicylaldehyde were prepared. The methyl acetal, the sodium bisulfite addition product, and the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of benzaldehyde were also prepared.

The bisulfite addition of both aldehydes was found to be too unstable in the presence of aldehyde was recovered in each case. The methyl acetyl chloride also decomposed. This necessitated finding a more stable group to protect the aldehyde.

The 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone was unaffected by treatment with anhydrous aluminum chloride in …

A Stratigraphic Study Of Fusulinid Foraminifera In The Cherokee Group (Pennsylvanian) Of Western Missouri And Kansas, Ralph Orlansky Jan 1951

A Stratigraphic Study Of Fusulinid Foraminifera In The Cherokee Group (Pennsylvanian) Of Western Missouri And Kansas, Ralph Orlansky

Masters Theses

"Limestones or shaly limestones, from four stratigraphic levels in the Cherokee group (Desmoinesian series) of Missouri and Kansas, contain eight species and two varieties of fusulinid foraminifera, of which four species and two varieties are new, and one ophthalmidiid foraminiferal species (Hemigordius cf. regularis Plummer). The next to highest limestone (cap rock of the Fleming coal) is correlated with the Seahorne limestone of western Illinois, the Stonefort limestone of southern Illinois, and the Munterville limestone of Iowa. Hemigordius regularis, a limestone facies foraminifer apparently marks a correlatable interval in the Ardmore limestone. Descriptions of the fusulinids and the …
