The Penetration Of Light Through Snow And Ice Cover, W. C. Croxton, W. B. Thurman, Theodore Shiffer Jan 1937

The Penetration Of Light Through Snow And Ice Cover, W. C. Croxton, W. B. Thurman, Theodore Shiffer

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

During several months of each year, soil and bodies of water in high latitudes are separated from the enveloping atmosphere by a layer of snow and ice of varying thickness. The effects of this insulating layer are not well understood, having received relatively a rather surprisingly small amount of attention by ecologists. It is known that snow cover influences the heat exchange between the surface of the earth and the air. Ice is thought to interfere with gas exchange between water and air and with aeration by wave action to the extent that epidemic losses of fish life occur through …

The Effect Of Cultivation On Certain Chemical And Physical Properties Of Some South Dakota Soils, Oscar E. Olson Jan 1937

The Effect Of Cultivation On Certain Chemical And Physical Properties Of Some South Dakota Soils, Oscar E. Olson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Soil Nutrient losses have followed closely in the paths of advancing frontiers in agriculture. Remedies for depletion as the result of overcropping were sought by George Washington, whose interest and investigation of soil nutrient losses probably represent the earliest attention given to land exploitation in the United States, which at the present time has become a problem of national concern. Soil losses have been attributed to a number of causes , among which are cropping, erosion, leaching, burning, and rapid oxidation of organic matter in the soil. Associated with soil nutrient losses, certain significant physical and chemical changes may occur …

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Test 281: Mccormick-Deering Tractractor Model T-40 (Gasoline), Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …
