The Geology And Mammalian Fauna Of The Pleistocene Of Nebraska Part I Outline Of Pleistocene Geology Of Nebraska Part Ii The Pleistocene Mammals Of Nebraska, A. L. Lugn, C. Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
The object of the present paper is to provide a suitable brief statement of the present state of knowledge of the Pleistocene geology of Nebraska, for an adequate understanding of the Pleistocene Mammal list, by Mr. C. Bertrand Schultz, which forms Part II of this report. The "outline" is necessarily brief and does not contain many detailed sections, nor lengthy discussions of controversial points. It is lacking in adequate detailed descriptions of new formations and may not be entirely convincing to many readers. The only excuse which the writer can offer for the shortcomings of the following pages is the …
The Hampton Tusk [Manuscript], Emmett J. Cable
The Hampton Tusk [Manuscript], Emmett J. Cable
Mastodon Tusk Background Material
On September 23, 1933, there was unearthed a large tusk in a gravel pit on the farm of W. S. Heuermann, section 21, Reeve township, Franklin County, about four miles south of the town of Hampton, Iowa. While loading gravel, one of the workmen, Lars C. Jensen, noticed something sticking out of the gravels that resembled a horn. Upon closer examination it was found to be a giant tusk, the largest of its kind, according to the best information available, ever found. The tusk was complete before it was broken by the workmen. The length was 11 feet, 7½ inches, …
The Equilibrium Relations Of Nickel Sulfide With Copper And Sodium Sulfides, Walter A. Hamilton
The Equilibrium Relations Of Nickel Sulfide With Copper And Sodium Sulfides, Walter A. Hamilton
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The equilibrium relations of many of the metallic sulfides have long been a source of scientific and commercial interest, of particular interest, are the sulfides of nickel and copper, since the economic recovery of both of these useful metals, from their ores, involves the formation of a sulfide at some stage of the operations.

Effect Of Manganese And Arsenic Upon Current Efficiency In The Deposition Of Zinc From Zinc Sulphate Solution, Justin Kelly
Effect Of Manganese And Arsenic Upon Current Efficiency In The Deposition Of Zinc From Zinc Sulphate Solution, Justin Kelly
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Throughout the entire experiment the electrolysis were conducted in an eight-hundred cubic centimeter beaker. An excellent circulation of the solution was assured by means of an electric stirrer, vigorous gas evolution from the anodes, and by means of a regulated feed-discharge system. By means of this balance, solution of the same impurity concentration as that of the electrolyte was fed in the cell just as fast as the discharge was syphoned out.

The Production Of Oxalic, Citric, And Gluconic Acids From Plantation Molasses, John A. Ruth
The Production Of Oxalic, Citric, And Gluconic Acids From Plantation Molasses, John A. Ruth
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This research was undertaken for the purpose of developing a process for producing citric and gluconic acids from plantation molasses.
There is an evident need for such a process. At the present time, these acids are being produced by processes in which refined sugar is the principal raw material. If molasses could be used in place of refined sugar, the cost of raw materials would be reduced by approximately ninety percent. In addition, a waste product would be utilized.
The scope of this problem is very broad. Its solution will involve the solving of many problems of widely varying natures. …

The Relation Of The Native Forest Cover To The Physical And Chemical Nature Of The Soils Of The Mammoth Cave National Park Area, Sheppard Walker
The Relation Of The Native Forest Cover To The Physical And Chemical Nature Of The Soils Of The Mammoth Cave National Park Area, Sheppard Walker
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the relation existing between the native forest cover and the chemical and physical properties of the soils of the Mammoth Cave National Park area. The study was suggested by certain references in the literature to a correlation existing between forest cover and the geological, chemical and physical nature of soils of this area. The recent attempt at reforestation in the Mammoth Cave National Park area renders such a study timely, and it is believed that the results reported in this paper will materially aid the Mammoth Cave National Park Commission and …
A Study On The Liesegang Phenomenon, Earl Francis Rothemich
A Study On The Liesegang Phenomenon, Earl Francis Rothemich
Honors Theses
This work is a continuation of an attempt to explain the Liesegang Phenomenon by using probing electrodes inside the gel. A study of what happens as one salt diffuses into a gel containing another salt with the precipitation of the reaction product in the gel, as well as the case of diffusion of a salt into a gel containing a small amount as the same salt has been made.
By the use of the probing electrodes it is possible to actually get inside the gel and in this manner observe how the concentration of the salt in the gel changes …
A Study Of The Effect Of Quinhydrone On The Time Of Set Of Silicic Acid Gells And Of The Effect Of Silicic Acid Gel On The Determination Of Ph By The Quinhydrone Electrode, James E. Malone
Honors Theses
The studies discussed in this report are supplementary to the work being done at Union College on silicic acid gels. In as much data has been taken in this work using pH as determined by the quinhydrone electrode, it was desired that a study be made of the effect of quinhydrone on the gel and of gel on the quinhydrone determinations. The pH of gels during their setting has been worked on and the first part of the experiment deals with the effect of quinhydrone on the time of set of silicic acid gel. Then it was desired to know …
The Thermal Dissociation Of Lithium Hydride, Benjamin M. Walker
The Thermal Dissociation Of Lithium Hydride, Benjamin M. Walker
Honors Theses
In previous work at the Union College laboratory a method was finally developed which overcame the difficulties of the earlier studies of calcium-hydrogen equilibrium. The results obtained were in good agreement with the best work of other investigators. In the present work, an attempt was made to extend this method to a study of the lithium-hydrogen equilibrium.
Precipitations In Gels, Bernard Freeman
Precipitations In Gels, Bernard Freeman
Honors Theses
Numerous investigations of reactions in gels have been conducted since Liesegang’s1 discovery, in 1896, of the periodic nature of silver chromate. Liesegang obtained rhythmic bands by the diffusion of silver nitrate in a gel containing K2Cr2O7.
A Study Of The Velocity Of Ions In Silica Gels When Under The Influence Of A Potential, John Galaba
A Study Of The Velocity Of Ions In Silica Gels When Under The Influence Of A Potential, John Galaba
Honors Theses
There is speculation among chemists as to the structure of gels. In an effort to get information on this subject, chemists have studied the properties of and reactions in gels. The results have led to conflicting theories. This work measuring the velocity of ions in silica gel has been done in the hope that it may add to the knowledge of the behavior of gels and furnish a further clue towards the correct structure of silica gels.
A Brief Study Of The Cherokee Formation Outcrop In Kansas, Roland G. Holmes
A Brief Study Of The Cherokee Formation Outcrop In Kansas, Roland G. Holmes
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The Cherokee formation is one of the important rock formations of Kansas. There has been much work done upon the coal beds of this formation but so far as is shown by a search of the available literature, there has been no work carried on making a study of the rock beds of the formation by means of chemical analysis.
This paper is an endeavour to do three things: (1) to make a brief study of the rocks of the Cherokee formation at various horizons, (2) to attempt to show by chemical analysis the position of the land mass from …
Leaching Copper Minerals In The Butte District, Kenneth C. Bellows
Leaching Copper Minerals In The Butte District, Kenneth C. Bellows
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The history of mining in Butte is woven about three of our principal metals. The gold placers first attracted the attention of miners in 1863, and reached their peak production in 1867. Silver was the second metal mined, and this operation required the erection of large mills with a consequent increase in mining activity that made the district a prominent producer. Although the presence of copper in the silver ore had been known, the credit for the first development of the copper veins is due Senator W. A. Clark. The original Colusa, Mining Chief, and Gambetta claims were developed to …
