Late Ediacaran Inertial-Interchange True Polar Wander (Iitpw) Event: A New Road To Reconcile The Enigmatic Paleogeography Prior To The Final Assembly Of Gondwana, Bin Wen, Cairong Luo, Yong-Xiang Li, Yanting Lin Jan 2022

Late Ediacaran Inertial-Interchange True Polar Wander (Iitpw) Event: A New Road To Reconcile The Enigmatic Paleogeography Prior To The Final Assembly Of Gondwana, Bin Wen, Cairong Luo, Yong-Xiang Li, Yanting Lin

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Ediacaran to Early Cambrian plate tectonics was dominated by a full dispersal of the supercontinent Rodinia and the subsequent amalgamation of Gondwana. There is a consensus that the final assembly of Gondwana was not completed until the Early Cambrian. Prior to the final assembly, however, one major uncertainty remains on the quantitative paleogeography: the mainland of Gondwana was plausibly positioned at either a high or low latitude at a single time instant to meet the dual-latitude ('high-latitude' and 'low-latitude') options of Laurentia and the requirement of

A Preliminary Account On Devonian Trilobites From Arabian Plate, Se Turkey, Catherine Cronier, İzzet Hoşgör Jan 2022

A Preliminary Account On Devonian Trilobites From Arabian Plate, Se Turkey, Catherine Cronier, İzzet Hoşgör

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Recently, several Devonian localities and the related biota occurring from the southeastern Turkey were reinvestigated. Although, the Hakkari-Çukurca and the Diyarbakır-Hazro areas of the Arabian Plate are considered as an important source of the Devonian macrofossils from the north Arabian sector of Gondwana, the existing record of Devonian trilobites in these regions was hitherto unknown. We here report and illustrate for the first time Lower and Middle Devonian trilobites represented by three proetid pygidia and one calymenid pygidium. The morphological features of these pygidia suggest that they can be assigned to undetermined species of Gravicalymene (Calymenidae) and Podoliproetus (Proetidae), two …

Devonian Parathuramminids From Taurides, Southern Turkey, Recep Özkan Jan 2022

Devonian Parathuramminids From Taurides, Southern Turkey, Recep Özkan

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Devonian shallow marine carbonate rocks of the Taurides (southern Turkey) host rich and diverse faunal assemblages of foraminifera including unilocular organisms of the family Parathuramminidae. This study allowed investigating the calcareous unilocular parathuramminid fauna obtained from three measured stratigraphic sections Halevikdere, Kocadere and Eceli in addition to one detailed, shorter section measured along the Halevikdere section. The investigation revealed that the parathuramminid species, which commonly occur in lagoonal environments, are widely distributed throughout the studied sections. They mostly exist in limestone beds deposited in a time interval from Middle Devonian (Eifelian) to Late Devonian (Frasnian). However, their richness and diversity …

Tectonomagmatic Reconstruction Of The Upper Mesozoic-Cenozoic Neotethyan Arcs In The Lut Block, East Iran: A Review And Synthesis, Reza Arjmandzadeh, Saeed Alirezaei, Alireza Almasi

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Lut Block in east Iran with a widespread record of arc-type Mesozoic-Cenozoic magmatic rocks is bordered by the Birjand (Sistan) ophiolitic assemblage to the east and the Sabzevar ophiolitic assemblage to the north. The nature and tectonomagmatic setting of these sutures and associated arcs are controversial. The geochemical attributes of the Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene intrusive and extrusive rocks in the central (CLB) and the northern Lut block (NLB) and in the Sabzevar ophiolite zone (SOZ), Late Cretaceous calc-alkaline and adakitic rocks to the east of the Sistan suture (CAS), and the Bazman intrusives to the west are consistent with a …

Growth Of The Imbrication Zone Along The Southeast Anatolian Orogenic Belt: Evidencefrom Fission Track Thermochronology From Gölbaşı Region (Se Turkey), Yusuf Topak

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

One of the major components of continental collision zones is their imbricated zones. Such a zone along the Southeast Anatolian Orogenic Belt (SAOB) is solely controlled by a still-active convergence and accretion system between the Anatolian Plate and Arabian platform since at least Late Cretaceous. The zone is characterized by NEE/SWW-trending, northward-dipping thrust slices that are squeezed between the Tauride Block to the north and the Arabian platform to the south. The units cropping out within the zone comprise Neo-Tethysrelated magmatic, ophiolitic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks with Late Cretaceous to Miocene formation/metamorphism ages. The Karanlıkdere granitoid intrudes into Late Cretaceous …

The Active Fault Pattern Based On Morphotectonic And Structural Data In The South Ofulubat Lake And The Susurluk Valley Along The Southern Branch Of North Anatolian Faultzone: A Criticism Of The Bend Model In Northwest Anatolia, Gürol Seyi̇toğlu, Korhan Esat Jan 2022

The Active Fault Pattern Based On Morphotectonic And Structural Data In The South Ofulubat Lake And The Susurluk Valley Along The Southern Branch Of North Anatolian Faultzone: A Criticism Of The Bend Model In Northwest Anatolia, Gürol Seyi̇toğlu, Korhan Esat

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Field observations and morphotectonic evaluations on the south of Ulubat Lake and the Susurluk valley show that the dominant active fault pattern consists of northeast-southwest and east northeast-west southwest right-lateral faults and northwestsoutheast normal faults developing between these strike-slip faults. We redefined the active faults in the south of Ulubat Lake and discovered that these northeast-southwest right-lateral faults control the route of Susurluk River. Based on these discoveries and evaluations, we can claim that the "bend model" previously proposed for the region is not valid, as seen in the Mustafakemalpaşa Fault and Balıkesir-Kepsut Fault examples. Instead, we suggest that the …

Petrology, Geochemistry, And Geodynamic Implications Of The Ediacaran Volcanism Of The Southwestern Edge Of The Saghro Massif (Eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco), Rachid Zahour, Ghalem Zahour, Hassan El Hadi, Youssef Zerhouni, Zouhair Baroudi, Mounia Khoukhouchi

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The southwestern edge of the Saghro Massif experienced during the Ediacaran period an intense volcanic activity represented by basaltic andesites and acid rocks with ignimbritic dominance. The chemical characteristics of these rocks correspond to those of calc-alkaline orogenic magmatism related to a subduction zone. The genesis of these two rock groups does not seem to be controlled by the fractional crystallization process as a factor controlling their evolution. Partial melting of a lithospheric mantle still influenced by the Pan-African orogeny and a contaminated constituent of the lower continental crust is a likely source of the basaltic andesites. Ignimbrites represent the …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In this study, we present pollen records together with a multiproxy analysis from a sediment core collected from the Güllük Bay (Bargilya Cove, Muğla, SW Turkey), covering the last 400 years. Pistachio shrubland was occupying around the Güllük Bay between 1613 and 1741 AD. However, after 1741 AD, the vegetation canopy suddenly changed and Turkish pine (Pinus brutia) was established. This supports that the main factor affecting the expansion of Pistacia lentiscus was precipitation rather than temperature after 1741 AD. This change is also indicated by high Sr-Ca values, reflecting arid conditions. Two anthropogenic phases developed in the region. The …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The pollution history of aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and mercury (Hg) were evaluated using geochemical and sedimentological properties of two sediment cores. The MD22A contained a mass-flow unit and two coccolith units. The upper coccolith was characterized by high organic matter, but it was relatively depleted in terms of all studied elements, suggesting dilution by high inorganic carbon. In the mass-flow unit, the relatively high Cr, Co, Zn, and Hg levels suggested additional contamination sources from the Kocadere Stream and Kocasu River. The ranges of Al, Cr, Co, Cu, Hg, Pb, and …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Preparation of biocatalyst dependent on immobilized penicillin G acylase (PGA) was of substantial importance for proteomic research, organic synthesis, and industrial applications. Herein, we developed an easy method for nano-magnetic composite to immobilize PGA. Fe3O4 nano-magnetic particles were co-precipitated with Fe3+ and Fe2+ in an ammonia solution (NH3) and treated with silicon dioxide (SiO2), which was developed using the sol-gel process. Thereafter, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was used to modify the silica-coated Fe3O4, which would result in the attachment of the primary amine groups to the particle surface. After that, the attachment of primary amine group was reacted with glutaraldehyde (Glu) to …

Momentum Of Light In Complex Media, Yuri Obukhov Jan 2022

Momentum Of Light In Complex Media, Yuri Obukhov

Turkish Journal of Physics

An important issue in phenomenological macroscopic electrodynamics of moving media is the definition of the energy and momentum of the electromagnetic field in matter. Rather surprisingly, this topic has demonstrated a remarkable longevity, and the problem of the electromagnetic energy and momentum in matter remained open, despite numerous theoretical and experimental investigations. We overview the definition of the momentum of light in matter and demonstrate that, for the correct understanding of the problem, one needs to carefully distinguish situations when the material medium is modeled either as a background for light or as a dynamical part of the total system. …

Investigating The Potential Of Laser-Written One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Inside Silicon, Onur Tokel Jan 2022

Investigating The Potential Of Laser-Written One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Inside Silicon, Onur Tokel

Turkish Journal of Physics

The field of silicon photonics is based on introducing and exploiting advanced optical functionality. Current efforts in the field are based on conventional micro/nanofabrication methods, leading to optical functionality over wafer surfaces. A complementary and emerging field is introducing analogous optics directly within the wafer using lasers. Here we investigate the theoretical feasibility of a subclass of such optics, photonic crystals. Our efforts will guide future experimental efforts towards in-chip spectral control.

On An Econophysics Model, Miron Kaufman

Turkish Journal of Physics

Krugman has proposed a continuous in time and space model for the emergence of polycentric urban areas in the regional space. By using a discrete version of this model on spatial networks, we predicted the distribution of jobs among the different localities inside a couple of economic regions in Ohio and Texas. The time evolution of the distribution of jobs is governed by a market potential. Employment gradually moves towards locations considered relatively attractive if their market potential is above the spatial average. Similarly, jobs move away from locations with below-average market potential. First, I will show that the market …

Geodesics Of Fiberwise Cigar Soliton Deformation Of The Sasaki Metric, Liana Lotarets Jan 2022

Geodesics Of Fiberwise Cigar Soliton Deformation Of The Sasaki Metric, Liana Lotarets

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Ricci solitons arose in proof the Poincare conjecture by R. Hamilton and G. Perelman. The first example of a noncompact steady Ricci soliton on a plane was found by R. Hamilton. This two-dimensional manifold is conformally equivalent to the plane and it is called by R. Hamilton's cigar soliton. The cigar soliton metric can be considered as a fiber-wise conformal deformation of the Euclidean metric on a fiber of the tangent bundle. In the paper we propose a deformation of the classical Sasaki metric on the tangent bundle of an n-dimensional Riemannian manifold that induces the cigar soliton type metric …
