Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are known to have a wide range of applications in various fields of discipline. In this research, the ability of metallic armchair (5, 5) CNT to detect acetaldehyde (C2 H4 O) was investigated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) as implemented in Quantum ESPRESSO with the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA). Accordingly, it was found that C2 H4 O preserved the metallic behavior of the CNT. However, some bands are found to have overlapped in both the valence and conduction regions of the electronic structures of the resulting system that are mainly caused by the p orbitals of …

Waste Jean Derived Self N-Containing Activated Carbon As A Potential Electrode Material For Supercapacitors, Yavuz Gökçe
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The rapid rise of the world population increases the annual amount of waste textile products. Textile products create a significant amount of CO2 , water, and chemical footprints during production. Therefore, the reusability of textile products has an important environmental and economic impact. Waste denim was used in this study to produce activated carbon (AC) samples as the alternative substance for supercapacitor electrodes. Characterisation studies showed that AC samples contain nitrogen originating from the elastane in the denim structure. Electrochemical characterisation tests proved the pseudocapacitive behaviour of the denim-derived AC due to the nitrogen content. Specific capacitance values observed for …

Textural And Genetic Investigations Of Gold Mineralization In Fault-Controlled Quartzcarbonate Veins In Bayburt-Zarani Area (Eastern Pontides-Ne Turkey), Necati̇ Tüysüz, Gülten Yaylali Abanuz, Oğuzhan Gümrük, Bahri̇can Ar
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The Eastern Pontides Orogenic Belt (EPOB), geographically corresponding to the northeastern part of Turkey hosts several different types of mineralizations that are closely related to Late Mesozoic-Early Cenozoic arc magmatism. Of these, Zarani gold mineralization, which is located in the southern part of the EPOB occurs as quartz-carbonate veins/veinlets within the Pulur metamorphic massif of Paleozoic age. Mineral textures indicate low-temperature vein-type mineralization. Gold mainly occurs in quartz and pyrite. The presence of calcite, dolomite, and sericite in the mineralization indicates near neutral pH conditions of ore-forming fluid. Geochemical analyses of chlorites in the quartz-carbonate veins reveal a temperature of …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Change in the steepness of river profiles caused by tectonic forces (uplift and material weakening in fault zones) causes the formation of the tectonically formed knickpoints (TFKs), which is an important geomorphic feature in bedrock river morphology. In this research, knickpoints in a wide area of the south of Central Alborz using the stream gradient (Gd) and the normalized steepness index (k$_{sn}$) were identified. According to the location of the knickpoints in relation to the faults in the area, the TFKs were identified. Analysis of the extracted TFKs with the longitudinal profile, logarithm slope-area plots, and natural logarithm gradient-distance plots …

The Anamas Block is located at the apex of the Isparta Angle which is one of the most important tectonic structures of Anatolia. The Isparta Angle, which has a complex tectonic structure, was formed as a result of compressional and extensional tectonic events that initiated from the Late Cretaceous continuing to the present. The GPS and kinematic data indicate the Anamas Block currently rotates clockwise due to the impact of the normal faults (Beyşehir Gölü and Sarıidris) with a minor right lateral strike-slip component on the east and west boundaries, while it is moved to the southeast by the effect …
Spherical Bouguer Effect Of Topography On Gravity With Constant And Laterally Varying Density, Mehmet Si̇mav
Spherical Bouguer Effect Of Topography On Gravity With Constant And Laterally Varying Density, Mehmet Si̇mav
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Gravitational attraction of the Earth's visible topography above the mean sea level is generally regarded as an unwanted signal in various geoscience applications. It should be removed from the observations to reveal the remaining signals of subsurface anomalous density distribution or to satisfy the boundary condition in solving the geodetic boundary value problems. However, the task of determining the gravimetric terrain effects involves tedious numerical computations when high-resolution elevation data is used. While the traditional computational approach relies on flat-Earth approximation and neglects the topographic masses beyond some fixed integration radius, e.g., planar complete Bouguer correction, the modern methods apply …

Well-Conditioned T-Matrix Formulation For Scattering By A Dielectric Obstacle, Murat Enes Hati̇poğlu, Fati̇h Di̇kmen
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The classic formulation of the extended boundary condition method is revisited to inject the regularization operators for the unknown coefficients of the eigen-function expansions for the travelling and standing waves throughout the dielectric scatterer. It is shown that, using the new definitions, the existing algorithm of the scattering field calculation can be kept the same for its well-conditioned version. This is exemplified for scalar 2D problems for both TM and TE polarization under illumination of a line source. The condition numbers of the matrix operators in the new version of the algorithm are drastically reduced when the regularization interfaces are …

Quadratic Programming Based Partitioning For Block Cimmino With Correct Value Representation, Zuhal Taş, Fahreddi̇n Şükrü Torun
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The block Cimmino method is successfully used for the parallel solution of large linear systems of equations due to its amenability to parallel processing. Since the convergence rate of block Cimmino depends on the orthogonality between the row blocks, advanced partitioning methods are used for faster convergence. In this work, we propose a new partitioning method that is superior to the state-of-the-art partitioning method, GRIP, in several ways. Firstly, our proposed method exploits the Mongoose partitioning library which can outperform the state-of-the-art methods by combining the advantages of classical combinatoric methods and continuous quadratic programming formulations. Secondly, the proposed method …

Analysis And Implementation Of A New High-Buck Dc-Dc Converter With Interleaved Output Inductors And Soft Switching Capability, Sajad Ghabeli Sani, Mohamad Reza Banaei, Seyed Hossein Hosseini
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
This paper proposes an innovative structure for DC-DC converters with high buck gain by using a lower number of elements. The converter provides highly efficient output power and an extended output voltage range. In addition, the distribution of output current between two inductors and the soft-switching capability of the power switches have made the converter suitable for applications that require high output current. All power switches accomplish the ZVZCS (zero-voltage and zero-current switching) condition with the aid of a small auxiliary inductor (Lx), which charges and discharges parallel capacitors of main switches to provide soft-switching conditions. Thus, the switching losses …
Integration Of Neural Network And Distance Relay To Improve The Fault Localization On Transmission Lines, Linh Tran
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Power transmission lines are integral and very important components of power systems. Because of the length of these lines and the complexity of the power grids, the lines may encounter various incidents such as lightning strike, shortage, and breakage. When an incident or a fault occurs, a fast process of identification, localization, and isolation of the fault is desired. An accurate fault localization would have a great impact in reducing the restoration time of the system. One of the most popular solutions for fault detection and localization is the distance relays using the impedance-based algorithms. However, these relays are still …

Deep Learning-Based Turkish Spelling Error Detection With A Multi-Class False Positive Reduction Model, Burak Aytan, Cemal Okan Şakar
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Spell checking and correction is an important step in the text normalization process. These tasks are more challenging in agglutinative languages such as Turkish since many words can be derived from the root word by combining many suffixes. In this study, we propose a two-step deep learning-based model for misspelled word detection in the Turkish language. A false positive reduction model is integrated into the system to reduce the false positive predictions originating from the use of foreign words and abbreviations that are commonly used in Internet sharing platforms. For this purpose, we create a multi-class dataset by developing a …

Study Of Helical Antenna Endowing Short Wire Length And Compact Structure For High-Frequency Operations And Its Exclusive Manufacturing Process, Meli̇h Aslan, Kaan Şik, İzzet Güzelkara, İbrahi̇m Tuna Özdür, Veli̇ Tayfun Kiliç
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this paper a study of a helical antenna resonating at high-frequency (HF) band with a very compact structure is reported. The designed antenna's S11 parameter magnitude change with frequency was calculated for different geometrical parameters. For each case, first, only a single parameter was changed. Then for a fair comparison, multiple parameters were changed simultaneously while the total wire length was set to be constant. Also, shifts in resonance frequencies and variations in -10 dB bandwidths were investigated. Our results show that resonance behaviour changes distinctively with the geometrical parameters and it allows shortening of the antenna wire length. …
