tree, a separate parent-child-sister hierarchy is employed independent of the parent-child-sister hierarchy used for the rest of the tree. Two different versions of such a local hierarchy are introduced. The result of the first proposed hierarchy is a faster and smaller footprint, while the second one provides size variation functionality without a significant computational overhead. Complexity comparison between the algorithms based on the introduced local hierarchies and ones based on previous complete binary tree structures reveals that the novel approach brings considerable memory gains and performance boosts to the complete binary tree based algorithms.

dc-dc converters is presented. The proposed converter has interesting features such as fewer switching devices, bidirectional power flow, and low switching losses. The simple modular structure, high frequency operation, zero voltage switching (ZVS) capability, and fewer switching devices make the extended configuration of the proposed converter suitable for high power applications. The operation principle of the proposed converter is analyzed in steady state, and then ZVS analysis of the converter is presented in detail. A generalized averaging technique, which uses dc and first order terms of Fourier's series of state variables, is applied to model the converter. A small-signal average …

An Implantable Microstrip Antenna Design For Mics-Band Biomedical Applications, Adnan Sondaş, Mustafa Hi̇kmet Bi̇lgehan Uçar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, an implantable microstrip antenna design is introduced to cover the Medical Implant Communications Service (MICS, 402$-$405 MHz) band for biomedical telemetry systems. The radiating layer of the antenna comprises two concentric square split-ring elements and a metallic pad placed between them. A shorting pin is also used for miniaturization purposes, directly connecting the outer ring element to the ground plane. It is numerically demonstrated that the proposed antenna offers approximately 7{\%} impedance bandwidth and gains of 1.9 dBi at the designated frequency band. In addition, effects of some critical design parameters on the antenna performance are numerically …

Peak-To-Average Power Ratio Reduction Using Backtracking Search Optimization Algorithm In Ofdm Systems, Necmi̇ Taşpinar, Yüksel Tokur Bozkurt

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system based on a combination of a partial transmit sequence (PTS) scheme with the backtracking search optimization algorithm (BSA) is proposed. The PTS scheme shows good PAPR reduction performance; however, it requires a complex computation to search the set of optimum phase factors, especially for high-speed data transmissions. To minimize the complexity of the search for optimum phase factors, the PTS scheme is combined with the BSA. The BSA is a new and efficient population-based evolutionary search algorithm for real-valued optimization problems. A set of simulations …

tissues in the brain separated by an interface. Extraction of this boundary is very important for quantitative analysis and monitoring of atrophy. A perfect capture for this purpose is a missing vital item for which research continues. In order to get close to such precision, two novel systems are presented for segmentation of cortical GM and WM in brain MRIs. The system imitates human perceptual sensitiveness to contrast, which is the basic principle of edge detection algorithms, and completes its shortcoming feature of segmentation. As well as being completely automatic, the system is also unsupervised. The correct GM-WM boundary rate …

controlled current conveyor (DDCCC) is proposed in this paper. Major advantages of the FGMOS-based DDCCC are low power dissipation and simplicity. The proposed circuit is designed using only 14 MOS transistors. The total power dissipation of the proposed circuit is equal to 7.38 $\mu $W. The other advantage of this circuit is that intrinsic resistance seen at port X of the DDCCC can easily be tuned by a biasing current. The tuning range of the intrinsic resistance is rather wide. Additionally, a current controlled universal filter and tunable positive and negative active resistors are presented as applications of the proposed …

Nowadays, application of an impedance relay with two negative offset operation zones to protect LOE is prevalent; this relay measures the output voltage and current of generator to detect LOE. On the other hand, utilization of flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices in power systems for different applications is soaring; these devices cause changes in voltage and current signals in the utilized power system. Therefore, this paper is dedicated to investigate the amounts of changes in the current and voltage signals measured by the LOE relay when the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and static synchronous series compensator …

Relay Sliding Mode Control Based On The Input-Output Model, Şölen Kumbay Yildiz, Hüseyi̇n Demi̇rci̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this study, the relay sliding mode control method based on the input-output model proposed in previous studies is revisited. Sliding conditions under ideal operating conditions are reformulated to fortify the theoretical background. Some additional issues, namely the effects of disturbances and measurement noise on the sliding mode conditions, are addressed and analyzed in detail. Finally, the theoretical results are put to the test by detailed simulation examples.

utilities to retain their generations within maximum allowable emission levels. Therefore, in present-day power system operations, the minimization of emission pollutants along with the total fuel cost has become an important aspect in short-term generation scheduling of hydrothermal power systems. This paper presents an improved hybrid approach based on the application of chaos theory in a differential evolution (DE) algorithm for the solution of this biobjective constrained optimization problem. In this proposed methodology, self-adjusted parameter setting in DE is obtained by using chaotic sequences. Secondly, a chaotic hybridized local search mechanism is embedded in DE to avoid it from trapping …

applications are proposed in this paper. In both antennas, the slot in the ground plane is of octagonal shape, while the patch is rectangular in one of the antennas and hexagonal in the other. Thin metallic stubs of different lengths are added to the ground plane and protrude into the slot. These stubs help to improve the impedance matching over a broader bandwidth. The antennas are very compact in size and designed on low-cost FR4 substrate. The measured impedance bandwidths (S$_{11}

power quality problems due to the fluctuating nature of the wind and the increasing complexity of the power system. This paper describes a novel approach to voltage and power control of a radial electrical distribution network, using a wind farm. The wind farm consists of seven 75 kW induction generators (DFIG) supplying two AC/DC converters. The feed structure of the DFIG allows operating the system conversion in a wide range of speed variations. That is why it is a recommended solution, due to its capacity to increase the generator power to twice its nominal power; consequently, the system's size and …
