Synthesis Of Tertiary Propargylic Phosphonates By Addition Of Trialkynylaluminum Reagents To Acyl Phosphonates And Investigation Of Their Antimicrobial Activities, Muhammed Shakhawoat Hossain, Sidika Polat Çakir, Ayşe Betül Karaduman, Mustafa Yamaç, Ayhan Sitki Demi̇r

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of propargylic alcohols containing phosphonates was synthesized by addition reactions of tris-(propynyl) and tris-(phenylethynyl)aluminum reagents to acyl phosphonates in good yields. Aromatic moieties of the acyl phosphonates with electron-withdrawing groups generally resulted in better isolated chemical yield. Selected propargylic phosphonates were tested for antimicrobial activities. Compounds 3a and 3h showed noticeable antifungal activity, especially against molds.

Generalized Derivations On Jordan Ideals In Prime Rings, Mahmoud El-Soufi, Ahmed Aboubakr

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let R be a 2-torsion free prime ring with center Z(R), J be a nonzero Jordan ideal also a subring of R, and F be a generalized derivation with associated derivation d. In the present paper, we shall show that J\subseteq Z(R) if any one of the following properties holds: (i) [F(u), u]\in Z(R), (ii) F(u)u = ud(u), (iii) d(u^2)=2F(u)u, (iv) F(u^2)-2uF(u) = d(u^2)-2ud(u), (v) F^2(u)+3d^2(u)=2Fd(u)+2dF(u), (vi) F(u^2) = 2uF(u) for all u \in J.

An Existence Result For A Quasilinear System With Gradient Term Under The Keller--Osserman Conditions, Dragos Patru Covei

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We use some new technical tools to obtain the existence of entire solutions for the quasilinear elliptic system of type \Delta _pu_i+h_i(\vert x\vert) \vert \nabla u_i\vert ^{p-1}=a_i(\vert x\vert ) f_i(u_{1},u_2) on R^N (N\geq 3, i=1,2) where N-1\geq p>1, \Delta_p is the p-Laplacian operator, and h_i, a_i, f_i are suitable functions. The results of this paper supplement the existing results in the literature and complete those obtained by Jesse D Peterson and Aihua W Wood (Large solutions to non-monotone semilinear elliptic systems, Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, Volume 384, pages 284--292, 2011).

Pullback Diagram Of H^*-Algebras, Mahnaz Khanehgir, Maryam Amyari, Marzieh Moradian Khibary

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper we obtain some properties for the pullback diagram of H^*-algebras. More precisely, we prove that the commutative diagram of H^*-algebras and morphisms A_1 @>\varphi_1>> B_1 @VV\psi_1V @VV\psi_2V A_2 @>\varphi_2>> B_2 is pullback and \psi_1 is an injection if and only if \psi_1 is a surjection, \psi_2 is an injection, and \ker \varphi_1 \cap \ker \psi_1 = \{0\}.

Relaxed Elastic Line In A Riemannian Manifold, Gözde Özkan, Ahmet Yücesan Jan 2014

Relaxed Elastic Line In A Riemannian Manifold, Gözde Özkan, Ahmet Yücesan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We obtain a differential equation with 2 boundary conditions for a relaxed elastic line in a Riemannian manifold. This differential equation, which is found with respect to constant sectional curvature G, geodesic curvature \kappa, and 2 boundary conditions, gives a more direct and more geometric approach to questions concerning a relaxed elastic line in a Riemannian manifold. We give various theorems and results in terms of a relaxed elastic line. Consequently, we examine the concept of a relaxed elastic line in 2- and 3- dimensional space forms.

Gradient Estimates For The Porous Medium Type Equation On Smooth Metric Measure Space, Deng Yihua

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The porous medium equation arises in different applications to model diffusive phenomena. In this paper, we obtain several gradient estimates for some porous medium type equations on smooth metric measure space with N-Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor bounded from below. In particular, we improve and generalize some current gradient estimates for the porous medium equations.

Counting Pseudo-Anosov Mapping Classes On The 3-Punctured Projective Plane, Blazej Szepietowski Jan 2014

Counting Pseudo-Anosov Mapping Classes On The 3-Punctured Projective Plane, Blazej Szepietowski

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We prove that in the pure mapping class group of the 3-punctured projective plane equipped with the word metric induced by certain generating set, the ratio of the number of pseudo-Anosov elements to the number of all elements in a ball centered at the identity tends to one, as the radius of the ball tends to infinity. We also compute growth functions of the sets of reducible and pseudo-Anosov elements.

On Minimal Poincaré 4-Complexes, Alberto Cavicchioli, Friedrich Hegenbarth, Dusan Repovs Jan 2014

On Minimal Poincaré 4-Complexes, Alberto Cavicchioli, Friedrich Hegenbarth, Dusan Repovs

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider 2 types of minimal Poincaré 4-complexes. One is defined with respect to the degree 1-map order. This idea was already present in our previous papers, and more systematically studied later by Hillman. The second type of minimal Poincaré 4-complexes was introduced by Hambleton, Kreck, and Teichner. It is not based on an order relation. In the present paper we study existence and uniqueness questions.

Central Configurations In The Collinear 5-Body Problem, Muhammad Shoaib, Anoop Sivasankaran, Abdulrehman Kashif Jan 2014

Central Configurations In The Collinear 5-Body Problem, Muhammad Shoaib, Anoop Sivasankaran, Abdulrehman Kashif

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We study the inverse problem of central configuration of collinear general 4- and 5-body problems. A central configuration for n-body problems is formed if the position vector of each particle with respect to the center of mass is a common scalar multiple of its acceleration. In the 3-body problem, it is always possible to find 3 positive masses for any given 3 collinear positions given that they are central. This is not possible for more than 4-body problems in general. We consider a collinear 5-body problem and identify regions in the phase space where it is possible to choose positive …

A Low-Memory Intensive Decoding Architecture For Double-Binary Convolutional Turbo Code, Ming Zhan, Liang Zhou, Jun Wu Jan 2014

A Low-Memory Intensive Decoding Architecture For Double-Binary Convolutional Turbo Code, Ming Zhan, Liang Zhou, Jun Wu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Memory accesses take a large part of the power consumption in the iterative decoding of double-binary convolutional turbo code (DB-CTC). To deal with this, a low-memory intensive decoding architecture is proposed for DB-CTC in this paper. The new scheme is based on an improved maximum a posteriori probability algorithm, where instead of storing all of the state metrics, only a part of these state metrics is stored in the state metrics cache (SMC), and the memory size of the SMC is thus reduced by 25%. Owing to a compare-select--recalculate processing (CSRP) module in the proposed decoding architecture, the unstored state …

M-Fdbscan: A Multicore Density-Based Uncertain Data Clustering Algorithm, Atakan Erdem, Taflan İmre Gündem Jan 2014

M-Fdbscan: A Multicore Density-Based Uncertain Data Clustering Algorithm, Atakan Erdem, Taflan İmre Gündem

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In many data mining applications, we use a clustering algorithm on a large amount of uncertain data. In this paper, we adapt an uncertain data clustering algorithm called fast density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (FDBSCAN) to multicore systems in order to have fast processing. The new algorithm, which we call multicore FDBSCAN (M-FDBSCAN), splits the data domain into c rectangular regions, where c is the number of cores in the system. The FDBSCAN algorithm is then applied to each rectangular region simultaneously. After the clustering operation is completed, semiclusters that occur during splitting are detected and merged to …

A Novel Approach Based On Reliability Sensitivity Analysis To Allocate Protective Devices, Hamed Hashemi Dezaki, Hossein Askarian Abyaneh, Mehdi Garmrudi, Hossein Mahdinia, Kazem Mazlumi Jan 2014

A Novel Approach Based On Reliability Sensitivity Analysis To Allocate Protective Devices, Hamed Hashemi Dezaki, Hossein Askarian Abyaneh, Mehdi Garmrudi, Hossein Mahdinia, Kazem Mazlumi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In electrical distribution systems, it is possible to have a reliable system via a well-designed protective scheme. The allocation of protective devices is an important parameter in the design of a protective scheme. Different approaches to optimize the allocation of protective devices have been studied. Because of some uncertainties, it is not the best strategy to select an optimized solution in accordance with certain conditions. The availability of the protective devices seriously affects the reliability of electrical distribution systems. Furthermore, reduction of the investment in some designing processes leads to a decrease in the number of protective devices that will …

Fuzzy Impedance And Force Control Of A Stewart Platform, Selçuk Ki̇zi̇r, Zafer Bi̇ngül Jan 2014

Fuzzy Impedance And Force Control Of A Stewart Platform, Selçuk Ki̇zi̇r, Zafer Bi̇ngül

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new, simple, and effective control method is proposed for the position-based impedance and force control of a Stewart platform (SP). The control approach can be divided into 3 parts, namely position control in free space, impedance control in contact, and force control. An impedance filter is developed to achieve the desired behavior between the position and force. The gain of the filter is modified by a fuzzy logic proportional-integral-derivative controller. Kinematic and dynamic models of the SP are simulated in a MATLAB/Simulink environment. Several real-time experiments are conducted with the SP developed in our laboratory. The results of the …

Optimal Operation Management Of Microgrids Using The Point Estimate Method And Firefly Algorithm While Considering Uncertainty, Sirus Mohammadi, Babak Mozafari, Soodabeh Solimani

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper analyzes the behavior of Hong's point estimate method to account for uncertainties in probabilistic energy management systems to optimize the operation of a microgrid (MG). These uncertainties may arise from different sources, such as the market prices, load demands, and electric power generation of wind farms and photovoltaic systems. Point estimate methods constitute a remarkable tool to handle stochastic power system problems because good results can be achieved using the same routines as those corresponding to deterministic problems, while keeping the computational burden low. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear constraint optimization problem to minimize the total …

An Alternative Approach To The Adem Relations In The Mod 2 Steenrod Algebra, Neşet Deni̇z Turgay Jan 2014

An Alternative Approach To The Adem Relations In The Mod 2 Steenrod Algebra, Neşet Deni̇z Turgay

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The Leibniz--Hopf algebra F is the free associative algebra over Z on one generator S^n in each degree n>0, with coproduct given by \Delta(S^n) = \sum_{i+j=n} S^i \otimes S^j. We introduce a new perspective on the Adem relations in the mod 2 Steenrod algebra A_2 by studying the map \pi^\ast dual to the Hopf algebra epimorphism \pi: F \otimes Z/2 \to A_2. We also express Milnor's Hopf algebra conjugation formula in A_2^\ast in a different form and give a new approach for the conjugation invariant problem in A_2^\ast.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of new N'-[(alkyl/aryl)sulfonyl]-1-(phenylsulfonyl)piperidine-4-carbohydrazide derivatives were synthesized. Starting from ethyl piperidine-4-carboxylate (a), first ethyl 1-(phenylsulfonyl)piperidine-4-carboxylate (1), second 1-(phenylsulfonyl)piperidine-4-carbohydrazide (2), and finally N'-[(alkyl/aryl)sulfonyl]-1-(phenylsulfonyl)piperidine-4-carbohydrazides (4a--n) were synthesized by reacting 2 with alkyl/aryl sulfonyl chlorides (3a--n). The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, ^1H-NMR, and EI-MS spectra and all were screened in vitro for their acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzyme inhibition activities. Molecular docking was accomplished for these compounds to examine their binding interactions with AChE and BChE human proteins. The strategy we applied for this purpose was a direct receptor-based approach. The binding modes of the inhibitors …

Responses Of Carbon Isotope Ratios Of C_3 Herbs To Humidity Index In Northern China, Xianzhao Liu, Qing Su, Chaokui Li, Yong Zhang, Qing Wang Jan 2014

Responses Of Carbon Isotope Ratios Of C_3 Herbs To Humidity Index In Northern China, Xianzhao Liu, Qing Su, Chaokui Li, Yong Zhang, Qing Wang

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Uncertainties would exist in the relationship between delta^{13}C values and environmental factors such as temperature, resulting in unreliable reconstruction of paleoclimates. It is therefore important to establish a rational relationship between plant delta^{13}C and a proxy for paleoclimate reconstruction that can comprehensively reflect temperature and precipitation. By measuring the delta^{13}C of a large number of C_3 herbaceous plants growing in different climate zones in northern China and collecting early reported delta^{13}C values of C_3 herbs in this study area, the spatial features of delta^{13}C values of C_3 herbs and their relationships with humidity index were analyzed. The delta^{13}C values of …

Investigation Of Fault-Related Small-Scale Fluid Flow In Geothermal Fields By Numerical Modeling, Doğa Doğan Jan 2014

Investigation Of Fault-Related Small-Scale Fluid Flow In Geothermal Fields By Numerical Modeling, Doğa Doğan

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In this paper, hydrothermal circulations and temperature distributions in geothermal areas with fault zones are investigated. It is shown that existence of the fault zones influences both the fluid circulation patterns and velocities. Reciprocal influence of the local fluid circulations and the temperature distribution is demonstrated. A 2-dimensional square porous layer is used for modeling the geothermal field. Faults are modeled as vertical porous layers. It is assumed that faults are located inside the geothermal field and have a higher permeability than the field itself. Anisotropic and isotropic models are used to simulate the permeability structure of the faults. Several …

Some New Associated Curves Of A Frenet Curve In E^3 And E^4, Nesi̇be Maci̇t, Mustafa Düldül

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, firstly, we define a W -direction curve and W -rectifying curve of a Frenet curve in 3-dimensional Euclidean space E^3 by using the unit Darboux vector field W of the Frenet curve and give some characterizations together with the relationships between the curvatures of each associated curve. We also introduce a V -direction curve, which is associated with a curve lying on an oriented surface in E^3. Later, some new associated curves of a Frenet curve are defined in E^4.

Fluorescence Quenching Study Of Moxifloxacin Interaction With Calf Thymus Dna, Yunkai Lv, Pan Li, Miao-Lun Jiao, Bao-Sheng Liu, Chao Yang

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Moxifloxacin (MOX) is a fourth-generation synthetic fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with many important therapeutic properties. Fluorescence quenching was used to study the interaction of MOX with calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) in aqueous solution. The intercalative binding mode and a static quenching mechanism were confirmed by the Stern--Volmer quenching rate constant (K_q) of 3.48 \times 10^{11} M^{-1} s^{-1} at 298 K. The thermodynamic parameters (\Delta H = --118.4 KJ mol^{-1} and \Delta S = --299.4 J mol^{-1} K^{-1}) were calculated at different temperatures, and they indicate that the main forces between MOX and ct-DNA are hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals force. …

Photovoltaic Enhancement Of Si Micro- And Nanostructure Solar Cells Via Ultrafast Laser Texturing, Falah A. H. Mutlak

Turkish Journal of Physics

The purpose of the present study was to achieve laser-microtextured Si structures, the material used as silicon wafers, with a thickness of 330 mu m for a fast laser texturing technique, in order to produce micro-/nanosurface textures by means of a UV femtosecond laser. A textured silicon surface was prepared that has the capability to trap light, thereby greatly reducing the visible light reflection for photovoltaic cells. The textured surface was measured by scanning electron microscope. The results showed a photocurrent increase of about 25% in the laser-textured zones.

Global Existence, Uniform Decay, And Exponential Growth Of Solutions For A System Of Viscoelastic Petrovsky Equations, Faramarz Tahamtani, Amir Peyravi

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem for a system of nonlinear viscoelastic Petrovsky equations. Introducing suitable perturbed energy functionals and using the potential well method we prove uniform decay of solution energy under some restrictions on the initial data and the relaxation functions. Moreover, we establish a growth result for certain solutions with positive initial energy.

Scattering Data In An Inverse Scattering Problem On The Semi-Axis For A First-Order Hyperbolic System, Mansur Ismailov, İbrahi̇m Teki̇n

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The inverse scattering problem for the first-order hyperbolic system on the semi-axis in the case of 2 incident and 2 scattered waves under consideration of 2 problems with the same given incident waves and different boundary conditions is considered. The scattering data on the semi-axis are given in terms of the scattering operator on the whole axis for the same system with the coefficients, which are extended in the whole axis by zero.
