Morphological And Optical Properties Of Vacuum Evaporated Zno Thin Films, Farzana Chowdhury, S. M. Firoz Hasan, M. Sahabul Alam

Turkish Journal of Physics

ZnO thin films were deposited onto chemically and ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates by thermal evaporation in vacuum (\sim 10^{-6} mbar). The thickness of the films was measured by frequency shift of quartz crystal. The optical properties of the films have been ascertained by UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometry in the photon wavelength range of 300--2500 nm. The effect of substrate temperature on the optical properties of the films has been investigated, where all film thickness was kept fixed at 100 \pm 10 nm. The optical transmittance spectra reveal a maximum transmittance of 88% at room temperature around photon wavelength of 2350 nm. Band …

Al-In-Hornblende Thermobarometry And Sr-Nd-O-Pb Isotopic Compositions Of The Early Miocene Alaçam Granite In Nw Anatolia (Turkey), Altuğ Hasözbek, Burhan Erdoğan, Muharrem Satir, Wolfgang Siebel, Erhan Akay, Güllü Deni̇z Doğan, Heinrich Taubald

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

During and after the closure of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean and progressive collision of the Tauride-Anatolide Platform with the Sakarya Continent, widespread magmatism occurred in NW Anatolia. This magmatism is manifested in a NW-trending belt along the northern border of the Menderes Massif. Due to the complex geodynamic setting of this region, the exact emplacement depth of the granitoids is still a matter of debate. Here we present Al-in-hornblende barometrical data and Sr-Nd-Pb isotope compositions of the Early Miocene Alaçam granite. The results imply a shallow emplacement depth of this granite (4.7±1.6 km) in contrast to previous studies which suggested emplacement …

Geochemical And Isotopic Constraints On Petrogenesis Of The Beypazarı Granitoid, Nw Ankara, Western Central Anatolia, Turkey, Yeşi̇m Yücel Öztürk, Cahi̇t Helvaci, Muharrem Satir

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Upper Cretaceous Beypazarı granitoid of the western Ankara, Turkey, is composed of two different units, on the basis of petrography and geochemical composition; these are granodiorite and diorite. The granitoid is subalkaline, belonging to the high-K calc-alkaline I-type granite series, which have relatively low initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7053-0.7070). All these characteristics, combined with major, trace element geochemical data as well as mineralogical and textural evidence, reveal that the Beypazarı granitoid formed in a volcanic arc setting and was derived from a subduction-modified and metasomatized mantle-sourced magma, with its crustal and mantle components contaminated by interaction with the upper crust. …

Late Palaeozoic To Cenozoic Evolution Of The Black Sea-Southern Eastern Europe Region: A View From The Russian Platform, Anatoly Nikishin, Peter Ziegler, Sergey Bolotov, Pavel Fokin

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

A synthesis of the Late Palaeozoic to Cenozoic evolution of the Black Sea region and the southern parts of the East European Platform (EEP) is presented. During Carboniferous to Early Permian times the Cordillera-type Euxinus Orogen evolved along the southern margin of the EEP in response to progressive closure of the Rheic and Palaeotethys oceans and the accretion of Gondwana-derived continental terranes. Permian development of the north-dipping Palaeotethys subduction system along the southern Pontides margin of these terranes was accompanied by important compressional intraplate deformation on the EEP. The Mesozoic to Palaeogene evolution of the southern parts of the EEP, …

Cenozoic Volcanism Of The Caucasian Mobile Belt In Georgia, Its Geological-Petrological Peculiarities And Geodynamic Conditions, Bezhan Tutberidze

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Caucasian mobile belt is situated in the area of Late Cenozoic collision of the large Afro-Arabian and Eurasian lithospheric plates. Extensive volcanic activity in the Georgian part of the Caucasian mobile belt took place during the Late Miocene-Holocene. Five volcanic regions have been identified in Georgia; each of them reveals in a greater or lesser degree similarity of tectonic and magmatic processes. Volcanic products are represented by basaltic, doleritic, andesitic basaltic, andesitic dacitic, rhyolitic lavas and their pyroclastics with andesites and dacites prevailing. Using petrochemical and geochemical data the volcanics can be divided into two main rock groups: calc-alkaline …

Slab Waveguide Sensor Based On Amplified Phase Change Due To Multiple Total Internal Reflections, Sofyan A. Taya, Taher M. El-Agez Jan 2012

Slab Waveguide Sensor Based On Amplified Phase Change Due To Multiple Total Internal Reflections, Sofyan A. Taya, Taher M. El-Agez

Turkish Journal of Physics

We present theoretically an optical slab waveguide sensor based on amplified phase change due to multiple total internal reflections (TIRs). Compared with the conventional waveguide sensors, the proposed approach provides higher sensitivity. In this sensor, we adopt the change in the ellipsometric total phase change \Delta as the measuring probe of changes in the refractive index (RI) of the cladding. The change in \Delta is calculated for large number of alternating total reflections. Numerical calculations show that \Delta is strongly dependent on the RI variations of the cladding. Moreover, theoretical simulations show that the resolution of this sensor is predicted …

Coupled-Channels Analysis Of K^+ Scattering From ^6li, Ahmed Aly Ebrahim Jan 2012

Coupled-Channels Analysis Of K^+ Scattering From ^6li, Ahmed Aly Ebrahim

Turkish Journal of Physics

Differential cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of K^+ at 715 MeV/c from ^6Li are analysed by applying the Watanabe superposition model to the real potential with a phenomenological imaginary potential. The optical potential of ^6Li is calculated in terms of alpha-particle and deuteron or triton and helion optical potentials. The calculated cross sections are consistent with the triton-helion model.

Groupoids, Imaginaries And Internal Covers, Ehud Hrushovski

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let T be a first-order theory. A correspondence is established between internal covers of models of T and definable groupoids within T. We also consider amalgamations of independent diagrams of algebraically closed substructures, and find strong relation between covers, uniqueness for 3-amalgamation, existence of 4-amalgamation, imaginaries of T^\si, and definable groupoids. As a corollary, we describe the imaginary elements of families of finite-dimensional vector spaces over pseudo-finite fields.

High-pressure and ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic rocks crop out widely in the northern Aegean. In many instances their ages and tectonic setting are poorly constrained. Here we report newly discovered high-pressure rocks of continental crustal origin and of Late Cretaceous age southwest of the Marmara Sea. They occur at the contact between the Rhodope-Strandja Zone in the north and the Sakarya Zone in the south. The Kemer Metamorphic Complex is composed mainly of mica schist, calcschist and marble with minor metabasite and serpentinite. The mica schists contain garnet, phengite (3.30-3.44 c.p.f.u), (±) paragonite, albite, epidote, calcite, chlorite and titanite. The high-pressure metamorphic …

An Algorithm For The Detection And Analysis Of Arud Meter In Diwan Poetry, Atakan Kurt, Mehmet Kara Jan 2012

An Algorithm For The Detection And Analysis Of Arud Meter In Diwan Poetry, Atakan Kurt, Mehmet Kara

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Diwan poetry is an important branch of classical Turkish literature (or Ottoman literature) that uses arud meter (wazn AR\footnote{Denotes an Arabic word.} or bahr AR, ölçü TR\footnote{Denotes a Turkish word.}). The teaching of classical poetry in high schools and in literature departments in universities requires an understanding of this meter. Arud is also used in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and other eastern languages. Determining the arud meter of poems written in the Ottoman language (Osmanlıca TR) is a difficult and tedious task for those who study poetry. In this paper, we focus on the computerized analysis of arud meter. We present …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Palaeogene forearc sedimentary fill on Lemnos Island, NE Greece, was examined to determine reservoir characteristics and textural parameters. During this time interval the studied area was the site of accumulation of submarine fans that underlie shelf deposits, with tectonic activity responsible for the shallowing upward trend. Turbidites were deposited in both inner (slope fan facies) and outer parts (basin floor fan facies) of the submarine fan system and consist of alternating sandstone and mudstone beds. Sandstones occur in both complete and incomplete Bouma sequences while shelf deposits have been interpreted as storm-surge deposits on the deeper parts of shelves. …

Reduction Of Torque Ripple In Dtc For Induction Motor Using Input-Output Feedback Linearization, Sebti Belkacem, Farid Naceri, Rachid Abdessemed

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Direct torque control (DTC) is known to produce fast responses and robust control in AC adjustable-speed drives. However, in the steady-state operation, notable torque, flux, and current pulsations occur. In this paper, nonlinear DTC of induction motor drives is presented based on a space vector pulse-width modulation scheme combined with the input-output feedback linearization technique. The variation of stator and rotor resistance due to changes in temperature or frequency deteriorates the performance of the DTC controller by introducing errors in the estimated flux linkage and the electromagnetic torque. This approach will not be suitable for high power drives such as …

The Composition Dependence Of The Optical Band Gap In Ge Doped Se-Te Glassy Alloy, Mainika Kapoor, Nagesh Thakur

Turkish Journal of Physics

Bulk glasses with the chemical composition (Se_{80}Te_{20})_{100-x}Ge_x (x = 0, 2, 4, 6) have been prepared from high purity constituent elements. Fragments of the bulk glasses are used to deposit thin films by vacuum thermal evaporation and compositional dependence of the optical and physical properties have been studied. It has been found that optical absorption is due to indirect transition and the optical band gap E_g increases with increasing Ge content in Se-Te glassy alloy. The relationship between the E_g and chemical composition is discussed in terms of cohesive energy and co-ordination number.
