Turkish Journal of Physics

Li_2O-Fe_2O_3-P_2O_5 glasses containing small concentrations of Ag_2O from 0 to 2 mol% were prepared. Samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope techniques. A number of studies viz., chemical durability, dielectric studies (constant \varepsilon', loss tan \delta, a.c. conductivity \sigma_{ac} over a range of frequency and temperature), spectroscopic (infrared, optical absorption ESR spectra) and magnetic susceptibility studies of these glasses, have been carried out. The interesting variations observed in all these properties with the concentration of Ag^{+} ions have been analyzed in the light of different oxidation states and environment of iron ions in the glass network.

Bianchi Type Vi_1 Viscous Fluid Cosmological Model In Wesson´S Theory Of Gravitation, G. S. Khadekar, G. R. Avachar Jan 2007

Bianchi Type Vi_1 Viscous Fluid Cosmological Model In Wesson´S Theory Of Gravitation, G. S. Khadekar, G. R. Avachar

Turkish Journal of Physics

Field equations of a scale invariant theory of gravitation proposed by Wesson [1, 2] are obtained in the presence of viscous fluid with the aid of Bianchi type VI_h space-time with the time dependent gauge function (Dirac gauge). It is found that Bianchi type VI_h (h = 1) space-time with viscous fluid is feasible in this theory, whereas Bianchi type VI_h (h = -1, 0) space-times are not feasible in this theory, even in the presence of viscosity. For the feasible case, by assuming a relation connecting viscosity and metric coefficient, we have obtained a nonsingular-radiating model. We have discussed …

The Fluctuation Theory And Gravitational Galaxy Clustering, Sajad Masood, Shakeel A. Simnani, Manzoor A. Malik Jan 2007

The Fluctuation Theory And Gravitational Galaxy Clustering, Sajad Masood, Shakeel A. Simnani, Manzoor A. Malik

Turkish Journal of Physics

The description of gravitational galaxy clustering evolving through quasi-equilibrium thermodynamics is examined on the basis of thermodynamic fluctuations and statistical mechanical ensemble techniques. Second order fluctuation moments lead to an ordinary differential equation for b(nT^{-3}), ratio of gravitational correlation energy to (twice) the kinetic energy of peculiar velocities. The general solution of the differential equation gives a functional form of b in terms of a scale invariant function nT^{-3}, in conformity with the earlier results. A method for finding analytic expression for probability distribution function f(N) of gravitational clustering in a expanding universe is also developed on the basis of …

Optical Properties And Structural Characterizations Of Sb_2s_3 Thin Films Deposited By Chemical Bath Deposition Technique, F. I. Ezema, A. B. C. Ekwealor, P. U. Asogwa, P. E. Ugwuoke, C. Chigbo, R. U. Osuji

Turkish Journal of Physics

Thin films of Sb_2S_3 were deposited on glass substrates at 300 K by chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique and annealed at various temperatures. The absorption coefficient \alpha was determined using the absorbance and transmission measurements from a Unico UV-2102 PC spectrophotometer, at normal incidence of light in the wavelength range 200--1000 nm, and the structural characterization were done using XRD and photomicrograph. The films have high absorption, greater than 90%, in the UV region but with moderate transmittance of greater than 50% for as-deposited, and poor transmittance of less than 45% for the annealed throughout the entire spectrum. Plots of …

A Single Junction Barrier Model For Varistors, Mustapha Tioursi, Abdallah Chaouch Jan 2007

A Single Junction Barrier Model For Varistors, Mustapha Tioursi, Abdallah Chaouch

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, we propose a simplified model that explains the experimental behaviour of the single junction barrier height in varistors. The equation obtained for the barrier height variation versus voltage contains all parameters that characterize the grain boundary and has no adjustable parameters. It allows us to describe the equilibrium state for each voltage level. From this model, it is concluded that the threshold voltage and the nonlinearity coefficient for a single junction barrier are strongly related to the unoccupied traps level at zero bias, when the barrier height at zero bias and the leakage current are related to …

Magnetic Levitation Of A Small Magnetic Ring Above Cylindrical Superconductor Sample In The Meissner State, H. M. Al-Khateeb, F. Y. Alzoubi, M. K. Alqadi, N. Y. Ayoub Jan 2007

Magnetic Levitation Of A Small Magnetic Ring Above Cylindrical Superconductor Sample In The Meissner State, H. M. Al-Khateeb, F. Y. Alzoubi, M. K. Alqadi, N. Y. Ayoub

Turkish Journal of Physics

The levitation force between a cylindrical superconductor in the Meissner state and a small magnetic ring was calculated using the dipole-dipole interaction model under the assumption that the magnetic ring is small compared with the physical dimensions of the system. We obtained analytical expressions for the levitation forces as a function of the geometrical parameters of the ring and the superconductor sample as well as the height of magnetic ring. We analyzed the levitation force in two configurations of the magnetic moment of the small ring with respect to the surface of the superconductor: one horizontal in which the magnetic …

Nature, Provenance And Relationships Of Early Miocene Palaeovalley Fills, Northern Adana Basin, Turkey: Their Significance For Sediment-Bypassing On A Carbonate Shelf, A. Sami̇ Derman, Kemal Gürbüz Jan 2007

Nature, Provenance And Relationships Of Early Miocene Palaeovalley Fills, Northern Adana Basin, Turkey: Their Significance For Sediment-Bypassing On A Carbonate Shelf, A. Sami̇ Derman, Kemal Gürbüz

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Gildirli Formation is the oldest Neogene rock unit in the Adana Basin and was formed prior to the regionally extensive Early Miocene marine transgression. These coarse clastic red-beds provide important evidence about the causes and early phases of filling in this large trough, because the Gildirli Formation sediments fill an irregular palaeotopography carved out of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic basement rocks. Detailed study of the Gildirli Formation reveals the existence of at least two alluvial fans supplied from different source areas. A northeastern fan, exposed around Gildirli Village, was fed by streams draining an area of ophiolitic mélange, Mesozoic and …

Lightlike Hypersurfaces Of Semi-Euclidean Spaces Satisfying Curvature Conditions Of Semisymmetry Type, Bayram Şahi̇n

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we investigate lightlike hypersurfaces which are semi-symmetric, Ricci semi-symmetric, parallel or semi-parallel in a semi-Euclidean space. We obtain that every screen conformal lightlike hypersurface of the Minkowski spacetime is semi-symmetric. For higher dimensions, we show that the semi-symmetry condition of a screen conformal lightlike hypersurface reduces to the semi-symmetry condition of a leaf of its screen distribution. We also obtain that semi-symmetric and Ricci semi-symmetric lightlike hypersurfaces are totally geodesic under certain conditions. Moreover, we show that there exist no non-totally geodesic parallel hypersurfaces in a Lorentzian space.

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Approximate numerical evaluations of the Rayleigh number are obtained for a stability problem of thermal convection in a heat-conducting micropolar fluid layer between two rigid boundaries [7]. The influences of all the physical parameters on the values of the Rayleigh number are studied. Also, approximate neutral curves and neutral surfaces are represented in various parameters spaces.

Extreme Points Of Certain Subsets Of Hermitian Elements In Banach Algebras, Gerd Herzog, Christoph Schmoeger Jan 2007

Extreme Points Of Certain Subsets Of Hermitian Elements In Banach Algebras, Gerd Herzog, Christoph Schmoeger

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider the real Banach spaces H(A) of all hermitian elements of a complex Banach algebra A. We prove that if an even power of a \in N(A) is hermitian, then a is an extreme point of the unit ball of H(A) if and only if a^2 = 1. Moreover, if an odd power of a \in H(A) is hermitian and a is an extreme point of the unit ball of H(A), then a^3 = a.

Higher Order Generalization Of Positive Linear Operators Defined By A Class Of Borel Measures, Oktay Duman Jan 2007

Higher Order Generalization Of Positive Linear Operators Defined By A Class Of Borel Measures, Oktay Duman

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In the present paper, we introduce a sequence of linear operators, which is a higher order generalization of positive linear operators defined by a class of Borel measures studied in [2]. Then, using the concept of A-statistical convergence we obtain some approximation results which are stronger than the aspects of the classical approximation theory.

Closure Of Minimal Extensions, M. El Hajoui, A. Miri Jan 2007

Closure Of Minimal Extensions, M. El Hajoui, A. Miri

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let R be a commutative ring with a unit and M an R-module. In this paper we give a comparison between the F-closure in M of an R-submodule having a minimal extension and the closure of this minimal extension for the same Gabriel topology defined on the ring R. If J(R) \in F we prove that both closures are the same. Moreover, if R is Artinian or semi-simple then the converse also holds.

Locally Finite Simple Moufang Loops, J. I. Hall Jan 2007

Locally Finite Simple Moufang Loops, J. I. Hall

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

A Moufang loop is a binary system that satisfies a particular weak form of the associative law. Doro and Glauberman observed that there is a direct connection between simple Moufang loops and simple groups with triality. Using this correspondence, Liebeck proved that nonassociative finite simple Moufang loops arise from split octonion algebras over finite fields. We extend Liebeck's theorem to the case of locally finite simple Moufang loops.

Finitary Actions And Invariant Ideals, D. S. Passman Jan 2007

Finitary Actions And Invariant Ideals, D. S. Passman

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let K be a field and let G be a group. If G acts on an abelian group V, then it acts naturally on any group algebra K[V], and we are concerned with classifying the G-stable ideals of K[V]. In this paper, we consider a rather concrete situation. We take G to be an infinite locally finite simple group acting in a finitary manner on V. When G is a finitary version of a classical linear group, then we show that the augmentation ideal \omega K[G] is the unique proper G-stable ideal of K[V]. On the other hand, if G …

Modelling A Deposition Process In Collective Construction, Robert L. Stewart, R. Andrew Russell, Lindsay Kleeman Jan 2007

Modelling A Deposition Process In Collective Construction, Robert L. Stewart, R. Andrew Russell, Lindsay Kleeman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

During collective construction tasks, swarm robots coordinate their actions in space and time to build structures that conform to some given design or specification. In this paper, a simulation model and a mathematical model (based on a Markov chain) are introduced to describe the deposition process of a previously detailed robotic swarm system that uses templates and feedback to facilitate construction. The models are based on the behaviour and geometry of real robots and predict the dynamics observed during practical trials as well as explaining the occurrence of different spatial patterns of building blocks. Furthermore, the models provide an insight …

Gold(Iii) Complex Of Caffeine: Synthesis, Isolation And Spectroscopic Characterization, Bojidarka Ivanova Jan 2007

Gold(Iii) Complex Of Caffeine: Synthesis, Isolation And Spectroscopic Characterization, Bojidarka Ivanova

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Au(III)-caffeine complex was synthesized and characterized by means of solid-state linear-dichroic infrared spectral analysis (IRLD), ^1H-NMR, MS, DSC and TGA methods. The caffeine (I) is monodentate and coordinated with metal ion through its N9 atom at molar ratio metal to ligand 1:1. The other 3 positions in the Au(III) coordination sphere are occupied by Cl^-, thus forming [Au^{3+}(C_8H_{10}N_4O_2)Cl_3] complex. IR-characteristic band assignment in the 4000-400 cm^{-1} IR region of pure ligand and corresponding Au(III)complex was performed.

Electrochemical Characteristics Of A 7-Ferrocenyl(Carbonyloxy)-1- Heptanethiol-Modified Gold Electrode, Mohammed Muzibur Rahman, Il Cheol Jeon Jan 2007

Electrochemical Characteristics Of A 7-Ferrocenyl(Carbonyloxy)-1- Heptanethiol-Modified Gold Electrode, Mohammed Muzibur Rahman, Il Cheol Jeon

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The electrochemical properties of 7-ferrocenyl(carbonyloxy)-1-heptanethiol [FcCO_2(CH_2)_7SH] were characterized by an electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). A gold surface was modified with FcCO_2(CH_2)_7SH by the self-assembly method. EQCM was used to investigate mass change during the redox reactions of FcCO_2(CH_2)_7SH monolayers on a modified gold electrode in solution containing K_3Fe(CN)_6 redox species. The FcCO_2(CH_2)_7SH monolayer on gold acts as a mediator for the electron transfer between a gold electrode and electroactive species Fe(CN)_6^{3-/4-} in solution. In both cases, electrochemical current responses were complicated because the observed currents were due to the redox of both the ferrocenyl group immobilized on gold and …

Studies On The Preparation Of \Alpha,\Omega -Telechelic Polymers By The Combination Of Reverse Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization And Atom Transfer Radical Coupling Processes, Bi̇nnur Aydoğan, Yusuf Yağci Jan 2007

Studies On The Preparation Of \Alpha,\Omega -Telechelic Polymers By The Combination Of Reverse Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization And Atom Transfer Radical Coupling Processes, Bi̇nnur Aydoğan, Yusuf Yağci

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Monofunctional polystyrenes with cyano, carboxylic acid, and hydroxyl terminal groups were synthesized by reverse atom transfer radical polymerization (RATRP) using corresponding azo initiators in conjunction with copper and iron complexes. These functional polymers were further used in the atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC) reaction in the presence of Cu(I) and Cu(0) in order to obtain telechelic polystyrenes. In the iron-mediated system, while RATRP experiments gave satisfactory results, the corresponding ATRC process yielded polymers with low functionality. The copper-mediated system, however, gave contrary results. In the RATRP step, initiation efficiency was rather low and polymers with relatively higher polydispersity were obtained. …
