Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, a novel adsorbent material, poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-N-isopropyl acrylamide) (p(HEMA-co-NIPAM) hydrogel, was synthesized for the purpose of removing methylene blue (MB) from aqueous media. The synthesis of hydrogel was carefully conducted, and its properties were thoroughly examined using techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The adsorption experiments conducted revealed a remarkable affinity of p(HEMA-co-NIPAM) hydrogel towards MB. The highest adsorption was observed when 0.05 g of the adsorbent were utilized, with optimal conditions at a pH of 6.0 and a temperature of 15 °C. This underscores the importance of …

Improving The Water Solubility Of Cannabidiol Using A Peptide Carrier, Melek Parlak Khalily

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Cannabidiol (CBD), nonpsychotropic cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa, is a very promising drug candidate offering many differential effects such as sedative, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. Nevertheless, the therapeutic use of CBD is hindered by its lack of water solubility and relatively low bioavailability. Various carriers have been used to address the solubility issues of CBD and other highly lipophilic drugs so far. However, self-assembled peptide nanostructures as carrier have not been used to improve the water solubility of CBD yet. In this study, a self-assembling peptide micelle was demonstrated to be an effective vehicle for encapsulation of CBD and …

Hummers’ Method-Assisted Liquid-Phase Exfoliation Enables The Fabrication Of Few-Layer Borophene From Bulk Boron, Mehmet Semih Bingöl, Mehmet Yilmaz, Ahmet Emre Kasapoğlu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The fabrication of few-layer borophene (BP) from bulk boron (b-B) is of great importance and still a scientific challenge due to the complex structure and crystallinity of b-B. Herein, we propose a novel technique to prepare a few-layer BP on a large scale with a large lateral size in a well-controlled manner. For this, we employed the Hummers’ method-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation. In the first step, the chemical exfoliation of the b-B as a precursor was performed by the modified Hummers’ method. After chemical exfoliation, mechanical delamination was employed by using an immersion sonicator. Finally, BP sheets were collected with dimensions …

Advanced Hyperthermia Treatment: Optimizing Microwave Energy Focus For Breast Cancer Therapy, Burak Acar, Tuba Yilmaz Abdolsaheb, Ali Yapar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a fast antenna phase optimization scheme to enable microwave power focusing for breast cancer hyperthermia. The power focusing is achieved through the maximization of the deposited electric field on the target malignant tumor tissue. To do so, a malignant breast tumor, the surrounding breast medium, and the skin of the breast are modeled as a cylindrical structure composed of eccentric cylinders, and electric field distribution is computed analytically in terms of cylindrical harmonics. This approach minimized the computational cost and simplified the breast medium model. To ensure applicability across various breast types, the dielectric properties (DPs) of …

Uncovering And Mitigating Spurious Features In Domain Generalization, Saeed Karimi, Hamdi̇ Di̇bekli̇oğlu Mar 2024

Uncovering And Mitigating Spurious Features In Domain Generalization, Saeed Karimi, Hamdi̇ Di̇bekli̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Domain generalization (DG) techniques strive to attain the ability to generalize to an unfamiliar target domain solely based on training data originating from the source domains. Despite the increasing attention given to learning from multiple training domains through the application of various forms of invariance across those domains, the enhancements observed in comparison to ERM are nearly insignificant under specified evaluation rules. In this paper, we demonstrate that the disentanglement of spurious and invariant features is a challenging task in conventional training since ERM simply minimizes the loss and does not exploit invariance among domains. To address this issue, we …

One of our attacks is a combination of a meet-in-the-middle (MiTM) attack with a square attack mounted on 6-round AES-192/256 while another attack combines an MiTM attack and an integral attack, utilizing key space partitioning technique, on 7-round AES-192/256. Moreover, we illustrate that impossible differential (ID) …

The given results are obtained by applying the comparison method, the Riccati transformation and the integral averaging technique. The results improve significantly and extend existing ones in the literature. Finally, illustrative examples are given.

An Extension Of The Definition On The Compositions Of The Singular Distributions, Emi̇n Özçağ

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Gelfand and Shilov give the definition of the composition δ(g(x)) for an infinitely differentiable function g(x) having any number of simple roots. In the paper, we consider their definition for an infinitely differentiable function having any number of multiple roots by using the method of the discarding of unwanted infinite quantities from asymptotic expansions and give some examples. Further, we define the compositions δ(g+) and δ(g−) for a locally summable function g(x).

Lightcone Framed Curves In The Lorentz-Minkowski 3-Space, Liang Chen, Masatomo Takahashi Mar 2024

Lightcone Framed Curves In The Lorentz-Minkowski 3-Space, Liang Chen, Masatomo Takahashi

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

For a nonlightlike nondegenerate regular curve, we have the arc-length parameter and the Frenet-Serret type formula by using a moving frame like a regular space curve in the Euclidean space. If a point of the curve moves between spacelike and timelike regions, then there is a lightlike point. In this paper, we consider mixed types of not only regular curves but also curves with singular points. In order to consider mixed type of curves with singular points, we introduce a frame, so-called the lightcone frame, and lightcone framed curves. We investigate differential geometric properties of lightcone framed curves.
