Determination Of Hydrochlorothiazide And Enalapril Maleate In Tablet Formulations By Reversed-Phase Hplc, Idrees F. Al-Momani̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A high-performance liquid chromatographic procedure is presented for the determination of hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) and enalapril maleate (EM) in pharmaceutical tablets. An aliquot of the sample is dissolved in 15% acetonitrile (ACN) containing thiophylline as an internal standard and chromatographed on a Supelcosil LC-8 (5 \mu m), (150 mm x 4.6 mm i.d.) column. The mobile phase was 3.0 mM tetrabutylammoniumhydrogen sulfate (TBAHS) in ACN/water/triethylamine (TEA), (14, 85.6, 6.4 V/V) adjusted to pH 4.1 by glacial acetic acid. The detection was at 220 nm. The method was tested for linearity, accuracy, recovery, and specificity.

Studies On The Thermal Decomposition Of Copper (Ii) Flouride Complexes With Various Amino Acids In Nitrogen Atmosphere, Muhammad Arif, Saeed-Ur Rehman, Muhammad Arshad, Khalid Masud, Nasima Arshad

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Thermal decomposition reactions of various copper (II) fluoride complexes of the general type Cu (L) F.xH_2O (L= asparagine(asp), arginine (arg), methionine (meth) and proline (pro), x = 3 to 4) have been studied in nitrogen atmosphere using TG and DTA techniques. A possible mechanism of decomposition is suggested on the basis of the reactions of their pyrolysis. The residues obtained at the end of various decomposition processes were identified through IR spectrometry. The kinetic parameters such as energy of activation (E^o ) and order of reaction (n) were also determined.

Fluorimetric Detection Of Insulin In The Presence Of Eu(Iii) - {Pyridine - 2,6 - Dicarboxylate} Tris Complex, Elmas Gök, Serdar Ateş Jan 2001

Fluorimetric Detection Of Insulin In The Presence Of Eu(Iii) - {Pyridine - 2,6 - Dicarboxylate} Tris Complex, Elmas Gök, Serdar Ateş

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Bovine insulin solutions (pH=9.3) have maximum absorption at 278 \pm 2 nm and an intrinsic emission at 305 nm when excited at 282 nm. The relative fluorescence intensities show linear dependence on its concentration: 10 \mug/mL< [Ins] < 200 \mug/mL. When Eu(PDA)_{3}^{3-} tris complex is added to these solutions, it has a hyperchromic effect at 278 nm absorption band of insulin, sensitizing the emission intensities of central Eu^{3+} metal ion of the complex at 590 and 615 nm, and simultaneously quenching the emission intensity of hormone at 305 nm. Stern-Volmer plots show that a mechanism of bimolecular quenching at 305 nm and sensitization at 615 nm are valid up to a mole ratio, R = [Eu(PDA)_{3}^{3-}]/[Ins] < 2.0. An intramolecular rather than an intermolecular energy transfer is proposed. An apparent binding constant, log K_{app}=4.70 \pm 0.13, is calculated for Ins-[Eu(PDA)_{3}^{3-}]_{2} type product, the presence of which may offer a new luminescence technique as a diagnostic tool and an alternative to radio-iodinated (^{131}I -) insulin. A simple, rapid and accurate quantitation of insulin is proposed by using a fixed concentration of Eu(PDA)_{3}^{3-}, and measuring its initial F_{0} at \lambda_{exc}/ \lambda_{em}=282/615 nm and the difference, \DeltaF after sensitization when \sim 100 microliters of insulin sample is added. The coefficient of variation (CV), the relative error and minimum detectable amount of bovine insulin hormone are found to be 3.0%, 1.2% and 7.3 \pm 0.2 \mug /mL respectively.

Accumulation Of Heavy Metals In Freshwater Organisms: Assessment Of Toxic Interactions, Neylan Di̇ri̇lgen Jan 2001

Accumulation Of Heavy Metals In Freshwater Organisms: Assessment Of Toxic Interactions, Neylan Di̇ri̇lgen

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Heavy metals are continuously released into the terrestrial environment by natural sources and human activities. The uptake and accumulation of heavy metals by plants promotes a mechanistic understanding of the biological significance of particular metal concentrations and distributions in biota. The toxicity of chromium, zinc, copper and cobalt ions and their binary mixtures are studied at varying test levels using duckweed as the test organism. The accumulation of metal ions are determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The type of toxic interactions in binary mixtures is assessed as `synergistic', `antagonistic' and `additive' by a statistical approach.

Incorporation Of Edta For The Elimination Of Metal Inhibitory Effects In An Amperometric Biosensor Based On Mushroom Tissue Polyphenol Oxidase, Arzum Erdem, Di̇lşat Özkan, Burcu Meri̇ç, Kağan Kerman, Mehmet Özsöz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Enzyme based biosensors are highly selective devices which rely on the specific binding of the target analyte (the substrate) to the active-site regions of the enzyme. The enzymatic reaction between mushroom tissue polyphenol oxidase and its substrate phenol is coupled with the use of potassium ferrocyanide (K_{4}Fe(CN)_{6}) as the mediator in ammonia buffer solution (pH 8.80). The response of devices is often affected by the presence of inhibitors, which combine with the free enzyme in a manner that prevents substrate binding. The objective of this study is to describe an efficient and yet simple strategy to eliminate the interference of …

Silver Recovery From Waste Photographic Films By Using Enzymatic Method, Nuri̇ Naki̇boğlu, Duygu Toscali, İhsan Yaşa

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A different enzymatic method was developed for stripping the silver from waste X-ray photographic films. The silver having purity of > 99% was recovered by smelting the obtained slurry in the presence of borax. Enzyme extract, obtained from Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 by modifying Horikoshi medium, was used for stripping the silver layer. The metal impurities (Al, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb and Sn) in the recovered silver were determined using the ICP-MS method. The results were compared those in with literature for high purity silver using the same method.

Oxidation Of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid By N-Bromosuccinimide In Aqueous Alkaline Medium -- A Kinetic Study, S. K. Mavalangi, M. R. Kembhavi, S. T. Nandibewoor

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The kinetics of oxidation of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) by N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in aqueous alkaline media was investigated at 25°C. Analysis of the results showed the reaction is first -- order with respect to [NBS] and apparently less than unit order each with respect to [EDTA] and [alkali]. The influence of the reaction products, ionic strength, temperature effect and dielectric constant of the medium on the rate of reaction was studied. The proposed mechanism is consistent with the observed kinetics. The reaction constants involved in the mechanism were derived. There is a good agreement between the observed and calculated rate constants …

Hydrothermal And Microwave Synthesis Of Boron Phosphate, Bpo_{4}, A. Baykal, Meral Kizilyalli, M. Toprak, R. Kniep

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

BPO_4 was previously synthesized by the solid state reactions of (NH_4)_2HPO_4 and B_2O_3 at 1000 ^oC and was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and IR methods. We have now succeeded in preparing BPO_4 from H_3BO_3 and P_2O_5 using hydrothermal synthesis by heating at 160 ^oC for 2 days and obtained a single phase product. We observed that a microwave-assisted synthesis takes only 3 to 5 minutes to transform a solid mixture of (NH_4)_2B_4O_7.4H_2O, and solid H_3PO_4 or B_2O_3 + P_2O_5 into the crystalline title compound. Its X-ray powder diffraction data and IR spectra were in good agreement with the literature …

Extensional Tectonics And The Geometry Of Related Macroscopic Structures: Field Evidence From The Gediz Detachment, Western Turkey, Hasan Sözbi̇li̇r

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The large-scale, low-angle Gediz detachment fault that constitutes the southern margin of the Gediz graben (also known as the Alaşehir graben) has macroscopic structures of extensional origin, such as folds and back-tilted strata. The folds were formed as antiformal and synformal structures with axes both parallel and perpendicular to the extensional direction in their footwalls and hanging-walls, respectively. An extension-parallel antiform-synform pair in the footwall of the Gediz detachment, namely the Oyukkıran antiform and the Keserler synform, are recognized south of Dereköy village (Salihli) on the southern margin of the Gediz graben. These are NE-trending domal and basinal structures with …

The Effect Of Phonon Drag Of Charge Carriers In In_{1 - X} Ga_{X} Sb, Sadiyar Ahmedoglu Zeynalov

Turkish Journal of Physics

The temperature dependencies of the thermal power a_{0} and thermal conductivity \kappa in two samples of In_{1 - x} Ga_{x}Sb (x=0.65 and 0.45) doped by {Te\sim } 0.001 at\%, with electron concentration n = 5.9 \cdot 10^{16} and 1.3 \cdot 10^{17} cm^{ - 3} (at 100K), have been investigated. It is shown that in In_{0.35}Ga_{0.65}Sb a_{0} increases with decreasing T below 50K. At 14K a_{0} passes through maximum and it falls sharply with decreasing T. It is shown that the maximum value of a_{0} is in agreement with the maximum value of \kappa . In In_{0.55}Ga_{0.45}Sb, starting from T = …

The Verlinde Algebra Is Twisted Equivariant K-Theory, Daniel S. Freed Jan 2001

The Verlinde Algebra Is Twisted Equivariant K-Theory, Daniel S. Freed

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The Verlinde algebra, which mathematically appears in the theory of loop groups and is related to moduli spaces of bundles over curves, turns out to be describable in terms of K-theory. This is a joint discovery with M. Hopkins and C. Teleman. Here we explain in heuristic terms how this fits naturally into ideas about the Chern-Simons topological field theory.

Absolutely Representing Systems Of Exponentials In The Spaces Of Infinitely-Differentiable Functions And Extendability In The Sense Of Whitney, Yu. F. Korobeinik

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let Q be a compactum in~\mathbb{R}^p, p\geqslant1, such that int Q\neq\varnothing and Q=\overline{ int Q}. Denote by C^{\infty}[Q] the space of functions from C^{\infty}( int Q) uniformly continuous in int Q together with all their partial derivatives. The conditions of the existence of absolutely representing systems of exponentials with purely imaginary exponents in the space C^{\infty}[Q] and some of its subspaces of Denjoy--Carleman type are investigated. It is also proved under rather general assumptions that there is no such absolutely representing systems in the space E(G)=\operatornamewithlimits{proj}\limits_ {\overleftarrow {Q\in \mathcal{F}_G}}E[Q] where G is an arbitrary open set in~\mathbb{R}^p, E[Q] is C^{\infty}[Q] …

Sections Of Lefschetz Fibrations And Stein Fillings, Andras I. Stipsicz

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Using Eliashberg's theorem about Stein fillings of S^3 we prove that a section of a Lefschetz fibration over S^2 has nonnegative square. This observation, in particular, implies that the identity element 1\in \Gamma _g ^1 in the mapping class group of a genus-g surface with one boundary component cannot be written as a product of positive Dehn twists.

G-Bundles On Abelian Surfaces, Hyperk\"Aler Manifolds, And Stringy Hodge Numbers, Jim Bryan, Ron Donagi, Naichung Conan Leung

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We study the moduli space M_{G} (A) of flat G-bundles on an Abelian surface A, where G is a compact, simple, simply connected, connected Lie group. Equivalently, M_{G} (A) is the (coarse) moduli space of s-equivalence classes of holomorphic semi-stable G^{\cnums }-bundles with trivial Chern classes. M_{G} (A) has the structure of a hyperk\"ahler orbifold. We show that when G is Sp(n) or SU (n), M_{G} (A) has a natural hyperk\"ahler desingularization which we exhibit as a moduli space of G^{\cnums }-bundles with an altered stability condition. In this way, we obtain the two known families of hyperk\"ahler manifolds, the …
