The Effects Of Certain Salts Upon The Saccharogenic Activity Of Three Typical Enzymes, George F. Gastler
The Effects Of Certain Salts Upon The Saccharogenic Activity Of Three Typical Enzymes, George F. Gastler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In a previous investigation carried out in these laboratories, Moxon and Franks (1), have shown the toxicity of sodium salts of selenium, vanadium, arsenic and tellurium toward the production of carbon dioxide during yeast fermentation of glucose. The toxicity of the salts occurred in the order given. In the same investigation (1), it was shown that sodium sulfide and sodium sulfite exert an accelerating effect.

The Effect Of Cultivation On Certain Chemical And Physical Properties Of Some South Dakota Soils, Oscar E. Olson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Soil Nutrient losses have followed closely in the paths of advancing frontiers in agriculture. Remedies for depletion as the result of overcropping were sought by George Washington, whose interest and investigation of soil nutrient losses probably represent the earliest attention given to land exploitation in the United States, which at the present time has become a problem of national concern. Soil losses have been attributed to a number of causes , among which are cropping, erosion, leaching, burning, and rapid oxidation of organic matter in the soil. Associated with soil nutrient losses, certain significant physical and chemical changes may occur …
An Investigation Into The Bromate Method Of Manganese Determination, Ray A. Bunday
An Investigation Into The Bromate Method Of Manganese Determination, Ray A. Bunday
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Throughout the history of research in the science of Chemistry the problem of the quantitative determination of manganese has always been a perplexing one. The results have usually fallen short of the theoretical value and has necessitated the application of an empirical factor(1) which is always undesirable to the true research scientist, if not to the commercial analyst.

Selenium In Proteins From Toxic Foodstuffs, Edgar Page Painter
Selenium In Proteins From Toxic Foodstuffs, Edgar Page Painter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The importance of the selenium problem has been established. Knight (1) in an address before The Association of Official Agricultural Chemists summarized the progress made on the problem, conservatively emphasized its importance, and stressed the need for extensive research. It is a paramount problem not only in South Dakota, but in many other states as well.

Determination Of The Limits And Accuracy Of Potassium Ferricyanide As An Outside Indicator In The Determination Of Iron And A Comparison Of This Outside Indicator With Diphenylamine As An Inside Indicator, Eugene D. Burr
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the volumetric course as offered by the Department of Chemistry of South Dakota State College for the spring term of 1931, we experienced difficulties in the methods which we were using for the determination of iron. The general method used was that of Penny's, using an outside indicator of potassium ferricyanide, and titrating with potassium dichromate.

Color, any attempt to apply the scientific principles of color vision in the making of a picture must surely fail if it be not granted at the out set that it is only to a limited degree that those principles can apply. Color appreciation is as much a psychical as a physiological, and indeed, it is psychical not only with regard to the objective impression itself, but also with regard to the subjective, the associational mental process. Previous knowledge and training, experience traditions, the association of color impressions with impressions previously received through other senses and stored away as memories, …
Temperature Conditions At Orono, Maine, Ernest Claude Drew
Temperature Conditions At Orono, Maine, Ernest Claude Drew
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is an outgrowth of a much larger piece of work which the Department of Physics, thru its instructors and major students, has undertaken to complete. The task referred to, is the compilation, arrangement, and summarizing of the various meteorological records taken at the University of Maine for the past forty-four years. These records were begun in the above department by Dr. M. C. Fernald in the year 1869 and were continued by him until 1893. The work was then transferred to the Experiment Station, where observations were made under the direction of Doctors W. H. Jordan and C. …
