In recent years, there has been renewed interest in problems of diffraction and radiation of ocean waves around structures, in relation to “green” power generation by Oscillating Water Column (OWC) devices. In this paper we present a first-order analytical solution for the diffraction of ocean waves around a hollow cylindrical shell structure suspended in an ocean of finite depth. By revisiting work done by Garrett (1970) on the problem of a bottomless harbor, but adopting a different and more direct method, we obtain the solution for the diffracted wave potential. A Software Defined Radio test bed using the Gnu Radio project was installed on Unix computers and modified so that estimates of the channel state coefficients were taken for a Multiple Input Multiple output (MIMO) system to take advantage of space time transmission at a frequency of 2.4GHz. Two MIMO techniques were implemented, one based on Alamouti and the other on Space Time Spreading. The technique used to estimate channel coefficients is described. Many interesting phenomena have been observed in layers of granular materials subjected to vertical oscillations; these include the formation of a variety of standing wave patterns, and the occurrence of isolated features called oscillons, which alternately form conical heaps and craters oscillating at one-half of the forcing frequency. The domestic load is considerably different to that seen 10 to 15 years ago. It has evolved significantly in terms of consumption and characteristics. In addition to traditional resistive and refrigeration type loads, the modern domestic load is now likely to contain a variety of sophisticated devices mostlypowered and controlled by power electronics. This paper examines the power quality characteristics of the modern domestic load. Laboratory testing and mathematical analysis is used to quantify and predict the behaviour of loads operating individually and in parallel. This paper presents the linearised small-signal dynamic modelling of hydroelectric turbine-generator (TG) unit with CIGRE first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) benchmark system in the synchronously rotating D-Q reference frame for small-signal stability analysis. This paper presents a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model-based fuzzy control design approach for electrohydraulic active vehicle suspensions considering nonlinear dynamics of the actuator, sprung mass variation, and constraints on the control input. The T-S fuzzy model is first applied to represent the nonlinear uncertain electrohydraulic suspension. Then, a fuzzy state feedback controller is designed for the obtained T-S fuzzy model with optimized H infin performance for ride comfort by using the parallel-distributed compensation (PDC) scheme. Two of the most recent and powerful multi-property preserving (MPP) hash domain extension transforms are the Ramdom-Oracle-XOR (ROX) transform and the Enveloped Shoup (ESh) transform. The former was proposed by Andreeva et al. at ASIACRYPT 2007 and the latter was proposed by Bellare and Ristenpart at ICALP 2007. In this paper, we address the problem of detecting and localizing cars in still images. The proposed car detection system is based on a hierarchical feature detector in which the processing units are shunting inhibitory neurons. To reduce the training time and complexity of the network, the shunting inhibitory neurons in the first layer are implemented as directional nonlinear filters, whereas the neurons in the second layer have trainable parameters. Identifying the shape difference between two groups of anatomical objects is important for medical image analysis and computer-aided diagnosis. A method called ldquodiscriminative directionrdquo in the literature has been proposed to solve this problem. In that method, the shape difference between groups is identified by deforming a shape along the discriminative direction. This paper conducts a thorough study about inferring this discriminative direction in an efficient and accurate way. We present the first dynamic universal accumulator that allows (1) the accumulation of elements in a DDH-hard group G and (2) one who knows x such that y = gx has - or has not - been accumulated, where g generates G, to efficiently prove her knowledge of such x in zero knowledge, and hence without revealing, e.g., x or y. We introduce the Attribute-Based Anonymous Credential System, which allows the verifier to authenticate anonymous users according to any access control policy expressible as a formula of possibly negated boolean user attributes. The literature on the design and analysis of cereal variety trials has focussed on the trait of grain yield. Such trials are also used to obtain information on grain quality traits but these are rarely subjected to the same level of statistical rigour. Genetic models partitioning additive and non-additive genetic effects for populations tested in replicated multi-environment trials (METs) in a plant breeding program have recently been presented in the literature. For these data, the variance model involves the direct product of a large numerator relationship matrix A, and a complex structure for the genotype by environment interaction effects, generally of a factor analytic (FA) form. Background and Aims: The influence of grapevine rootstocks on vine vigour and crop yield is recognized as an integral part of viticultural management. However, the genetic potential of Vitis species rootstock hybrids for vigour and yield control is not fully exploited in Australian viticulture. The effect of 55 novel inter- and intra-species hybrids and five traditional hybrid rootstock cultivars on winter pruning weight, berry size and fruit yield of grafted Shiraz vines is presented. The genetic predictions that resulted from this analysis were used to illustrate how rootstocks that best perform for a combination of traits may be selected.

This paper proposes a part-based template matching method for multi-view human detection. The proposed method includes two stages: matching and verification. In particular, the best individual matching parts given a detection window are determined using an improved template matching algorithm. The hypothesis of the matched parts forming a human is then verified by employing a Bayesian-based model. The verification is not only based on the matching costs of individual parts but also how well the combining the matched parts satisfying the configuration constraints of the human body. This paper proposes a novel weighted template matching method. It employs a generalized distance transform (GDT) and an orientation map (OM). The GDT allows us to weight the distance transform more on the strong edge points and the OM provides supplementary local orientation information for matching. Based on the matching method, a two-stage human detection method consisting of template matching and Bayesian verification is developed. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method can effectively reduce the false positive and false negative detection rates and perform superiorly in comparison to the conventional Chamfer matching method.

This paper proposes a new two-stage human detection method involving matching and verification. A Bayesian framework is developed to verify the matching score obtained from a weighted distance measure. In this paper we propose a new kernel PCA (KPCA) speed-up algorithm that aims to find a reduced KPCA to approximate the kernel mapping. The algorithm works by greedily choosing a subset of the training samples that minimizes the mean square error of the kernel mapping between the original KPCA and the reduced KPCA. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm is more efficient in computation and effective with lower mapping errors than previous algorithms.

Motivated by the non-linear manifold learning ability of the Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA), we propose in this paper a method for detecting human postures from single images by employing KPCA to learn the manifold span of a set of HOG features that can effectively represent the postures. The main contribution of this paper is to apply the KPCA as a non-linear learning and open-set classification tool, which implicitly learns a smooth manifold from noisy data that scatter over the feature space.
