"The object of this research was to prepare first the simplest homologue of the epoxy-ketone considered by Russell to have been his product. If this homologue, 4-benzoyl-4-methyl-1,2-epoxypentane, could be prepared and caused to form a cyclic derivative of the type given by 1,4-diketones with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone, the organic chemist would be given a new approach to substituted 1,2-diazines as well as a previously unreported reaction of the epoxide grouping. If this reaction could be made to occur, other epoxides of this series would be prepared and treated in the same manner.

"The study of the thermodynamic properties of solids at low temperatures has shown that most theories either break down or become too cumbersome.
A theory based upon a crystal lattice of atoms gives the best physical picture of a solid. Fisher has developed partition functions from this theory for the simple cubic, body-centered cubic, and the face-centered cubic lattices. In his paper Fisher gave three partition functions of increasing complexity and accuracy for each of the three lattices. In this paper the three partition functions for a face-centered cubic lattice shall be applied to silver and compared.

Introduction: Miller Cove is an elongated lowland lying in the northwest part of the Kinzel Springs Quadrangle, Blount County, Tennessee. The airline distance southeast of the town or Maryville is seven miles. The cove is seven miles long from northeast to southwest. Its maximum width is 1.5 miles. It is bordered on the northwest by narrow-crested Chilhowee Mountain and on the southeast by Miller Cove Mountain and Hurricane Mountain.

"Modulation of a radio frequency carrier can be defined as the variation of some wave parameter such as amplitude, frequency, or phase, in accordance with intelligence to be transmitted. "Most gases, and particularly oxygen and nitrogen, are nearly opaque to radiation in the region from about 1800 Å downward to about 2 Å and hence, for spectroscopic work in this region, the removal of these gases is mandatory. Popular usage generally refers to the range mentioned above as the vacuum ultraviolet. That there remains much experimental work to be done in the vacuum ultraviolet has been pointed out by Boyce in his exhaustive survey of vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy. "Fossil Radiolaria are described and figured from the Porters Creek formation (Paleocene) of Ardeola, Stoddard County Missouri. This is the first detailed treatment of fossil radiolarians from the Gulf Coast area. Thirty-one species are described and figured, all believed to be new, belonging to twenty-four genera. Fifteen families are represented, ten referable to the Legion Spumellaria, five to the Legion Nassellaria. "Limestones or shaly limestones, from four stratigraphic levels in the Cherokee group (Desmoinesian series) of Missouri and Kansas, contain eight species and two varieties of fusulinid foraminifera, of which four species and two varieties are new, and one ophthalmidiid foraminiferal species (Hemigordius cf. regularis Plummer). The next to highest limestone (cap rock of the Fleming coal) is correlated with the Seahorne limestone of western Illinois, the Stonefort limestone of southern Illinois, and the Munterville limestone of Iowa. Hemigordius regularis, a limestone facies foraminifer apparently marks a correlatable interval in the Ardmore limestone. Descriptions of the fusulinids and the …

The field work involved in the preparation of this thesis was begun in the fall of 1949 and completed during the summer of 1950. The writer used the geological folio of the area (Keith, 1897) to orient himself in general in the field. The geologic mapping was started in the eastern part of the quadrangle in the Valley and Ridge portion of the area and then continued westward into the Plateau portions. The final study resulted in both stratigraphic and structural modification of some of Keith's interpretations.

The concept of prime ideal, which arises in the theory of rings as a generalization of the concept of prime number in the ring of integers, plays a highly important role in that theory, as might be expected from the central position occupied by the primes in arithmetic.
