Chromium Redox Speciation In Food Samples, Krystyna Pyrzynska Jan 2016

Chromium Redox Speciation In Food Samples, Krystyna Pyrzynska

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Chromium is an element with important biological characteristics, depending on its different species. Cr(III) is considered as essential; however, the Cr(VI) form is classified as carcinogenic.~For this reason, speciation analysis in food samples is a very important question. The proposed data procedures for chromium redox speciation in the literature can be divided into those with the use of online hyphenated techniques and those where appropriate sample pretreatment is necessary. The strategies for nonchromatographic speciation are mainly based on selective liquid--liquid extraction procedures, coprecipitation, selective separation of chromium species using a solid phase extraction column, or complexation reactions. In this paper, …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of N-acylhydrazone derivatives (2a--2p) containing 6-methoxy-naphthalene and acylhydrazone moieties were synthesized in good yield using microwave irradiation and developed as potential COX-2 inhibitors. Furthermore, the interactions between COX-2 and the compounds were examined in detail by molecular modeling studies such as structure--activity relationship and molecular docking performed using Gaussian 09 and Discovery Studio 3.5. As a result, it was found that N-acylhydrazone compounds displayed a different mechanism than SC-558 as COX-2 inhibitor by binding to different active sites of the protein, COX-2. Compound 2c would be a good COX-2 inhibitor candidate for preclinical studies.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H$_{2}$dipic) reacts with copper-exchanged zeolite NaY to form [Cu(dipic)(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$]$_{n}$, which is encapsulated in the pores of the zeolite. In this zeolite-encapsulated form, the copper derivative functions as an efficient catalyst for the oxidation of cyclohexene, toluene, cyclohexane, and ethyl benzene in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (as an oxidant). The catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture, and it could be reused for an additional three runs without perceptible loss of activity. The heterogeneous catalyst exhibited considerably higher activity and selectivity compared with [Cu(dipic)(H$_{2}$O)$_{2}$]$_{n}$ itself.

Glutamic functionalized water-soluble perylene diimide, N, N'-di (L-glutamic amine)-perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (GAPTCD) has three absorbance maxima at 469, 498, and 534 nm and two emission peaks at 550 and 587 nm. Owing to the highly negative electrostatic potential of the perylene plane, the perylene derivative showed good water solubility and strong fluorescence in alkali and neutral solutions. Both the absorbance and emission intensities decreased with the decreasing of pH from 9.66 to 5.92. This could be ascribed to the $\pi -\pi $ stacking produced by H$^{+}$ at the carboxyl group due to its electron accepting nature. Electrostatic potential maps also indicated …

Three new series of 33 quinolone compounds, 2-(2-, 3-, and 4-fluorophenyl)-4-O-alkyl(C$_{5-15})$quinolines (7a-k, 8a-k, and 9a-k), were synthesized from 2-(2-, 3-, and 4-fluorophenyl)-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-one (4, 5, and 6) by the reaction of alkyl halides under basic conditions in DMF. The new compounds 7a-k, 8a-k, and 9a-k were synthesized from flavonones 4-6, which can be considered new precursors for quinoline synthesis through a one-step reaction. All the target compounds (7a-k, 8a-k, and 9a-k) were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against nine test microorganisms. They showed the most activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 62.5-500 $\mu $g/mL, indicating …
