The impregnation has resulted in the band gap of Pd/HAp at 3.19 eV, as calculated using Tauc?s plot from the UV-Vis spectroscopy data of the Pd/HAp. Next, the photocatalytic activities of Pd/HAp were carried out with …

Alkyd Resins Produced From Bio-Based Resources For More Sustainable And Environmentally Friendly Coating Applications, Cemi̇l Dizman, Eli̇f Cerrahoğlu Kaçakgi̇l

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Recently, due to the depletion of natural resources and raising environmental and economic concerns regarding petroleum derivatives, the creation of novel ecologically friendly and sustainable materials made from bio-based and renewable resources is gaining popularity. Alkyd resins are synthetic resins in which both renewable (fatty acids, glycerol, oil, etc.) and nonrenewable (maleic anhydride, pentaerythritol, phthalic anhydride, etc.) raw materials are used in their production. Due to their superior performance (good aging, greater weather resistance and high heat resistance, outstanding gloss, etc.) over other resins, easy application, low cost, and varied use, in the coating and paint industries, they are commonly …

Copper-Catalyzed Reactions Of Β-Alkoxy/Phenoxy Enones With Dimethyl Diazomalonate, Füsun Şeyma Kişkan Jan 2023

Copper-Catalyzed Reactions Of Β-Alkoxy/Phenoxy Enones With Dimethyl Diazomalonate, Füsun Şeyma Kişkan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

2,3-dihydrofurans were synthesized from carbonyl-ylides via 1,5-electrocyclization reactions with high yields. Dimethyl diazomalonate was reacted with several β-alkoxy and/or β-phenoxy α,β-unsaturated compounds in the presence of Cu(acac)$_{2}$ as a catalyst. From the reaction of β-methoxy enone with diazo compound, dioxole, and Cα-H insertion products were also obtained as side products along with 2,3-dihydrofuran derivative. When the unsaturated compound has an ester and a ketone group, only one dihydrofuran derivative was formed, which occurred by the 1,5-ring closure of keto-carbonyl ylide. Dihydrofuran derivative from the formation of ester carbonyl ylide in the reactions was not obtained.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Collagen type I is the main structural unit in skin tissue and is therefore used preferentially in skin tissue scaffolds. However, collagen-based 3D scaffolds have weak aqueous stability and degradation profiles in their uncross-linked states and chemical cross-linking reagents arise toxicity concerns, which generally restrict the spectrum of their biomedical applicability. Here, the research goal is to photochemically cross-link collagen type I with rose bengal (RB) when subjected to green laser light and to investigate the effect of silk sericin-capped gold nanoparticles (S-AuNP) when incorporated into scaffolds on the cross-linking process and thus on the scaffold properties. All the collagen …

Structure-Emission Relationship Of Some Coumarin Laser Dyes And Related Molecules: Prediction Of Radiative Energy Dissipation And The Intersystem Crossing Rate Constants, Msa Abdelmottaleb

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Dye lasers are commonly used in optical investigation because their solutions in organic solvents deliver tunable, coherent emissions. They exhibit intense fluorescence owing to some specific spectroscopic characteristics. One drawback of the laser dyes is that it shows excessive triplet-state losses (TSLs.) The lack of theoretical predictions of fluorescence rates, intersystem crossing (ISC), and phosphorescence in laser dyes prompted us to report on the predicted rates of radiative and nonradiative transitions of some laser dyes. Structural engineering by some substituents influencing the simulated rates of coumarin laser dye derivatives for an efficient operation was investigated. The NH$_{2}$ functional group renders …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Polymer brushes are promising many applications as smart materials and biocompatible surfaces. Surface-initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization is one of the most effective techniques for synthesis of well-defined polymer brushes. Herein, a biocompatible, uniform and stable poly(N-acryloylmorpholine)-silicon hybrid system was achieved using surface-initiated RAFT polymerization. Evidence of a well-controlled surface-initiated RAFT polymerization was confirmed by a linear increase of number average molecular weight (M$_{n}$) with overall monomer conversions. Water contact angle, ellipsometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy verified the presence of poly(N-acryloylmorpholine) (poly(NAM)) on silicon wafers. The grafting density (σ) and the average distance between grafting …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this paper, ceria (CeO$_{2}$) nanorod (NR) supported Ni-Cr$_{2}$O$_{3}$ anode electrocatalysts were synthesized as nonnoble metalbased anode electrocatalysts for ethanol electrooxidation reaction (EOR) in alkaline media. Physicochemical characterization of the electrocatalysts was investigated by XRD, SEM, and TEM techniques. Electrochemical performances of the catalysts were investigated via cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and chronoamperometry (CA) techniques. The data from linear LSV were used for the diffusion coefficient of the electrocatalysts. The CA experiments' results showed the tolerance for catalytic poisoning and durability of the synthesized electrocatalysts.

Enhanced Ionic Conductivity And Mechanical Strength In Nanocomposite Electrolytes With Nonlinear Polymer Architectures, Recep Bakar, Saeid Darvishi, Erkan Şenses

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Solvent-free polymer-based electrolytes (SPEs) have gained significant attention to realize safer and flexible lithium-ion batteries. Among all polymers used for preparing SPEs electrolytes, poly(ethylene oxide), a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer, has been the most prevalent one mainly because of its high ionic conductivity in the molten state, the capability for the dissolution of a wide range of different lithium salts as well as its potential for the environmental health and safety. However, linear PEO is highly semicrystalline at room temperature and thus exhibits weak mechanical performance. Addition of nanoparticles enhances the mechanical strength and effectively decreases the crystallization of linear …

Polypyrrole/huntite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermal Gravimetric Analyses (TGA), Differential Thermal Analyses (DTA), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and dielectrical properties were investigated by Impedance Analyzer at the room temperature. The FTIR spectra show that huntite mineral coordinate with polymers through carbonate groups. TGA results indicate the main cause of mass loss can be moisture in the samples and unreacted pyrrole monomer. …
