The SLD could be detected by the colorimetric response of AgNPs that could be monitored by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer or even the naked eye. The linear range was found to be 0.6-5.0 μM with the calculated detection limit of 0.1 μM and the naked-eye detection limit …

Removal Of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (Pahs) From Water Through Degradable Polycaprolactone Electrospun Membrane, Fuat Topuz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common and persistent environmental pollutants produced during the incomplete combustion of fuels. They are known for their carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. Thus, their removal from water bodies is highly crucial and has become a critical issue globally. As a solution, here an electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) membrane with a mean fiber diameter of 2.74 ± 1.3 μm was produced by electrospinning. Water contact angle (WCA) analysis confirmed the hydrophobic nature of the PCL membrane with a WCA of 124°, which remained stable over time. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis (DSC) revealed the semicrystalline nature of the membrane …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Silicon with the properties of high capacity capability, moderate working potential, environmental sensitivity, and existence are the highly promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Silicon anodes have disadvantageous properties and advantages like 300% volume change during lithium insertion and extraction process that can result in capacity fading and a shorter lifetime of the battery. In the literature, different optimizations of Silicon with different nanomaterials or composite materials, in different ratios, and with different binders and different procedures have been studied. The physical mixing of silicon with carbon provides a good performance by combining the high lithium storage capacity of the …

Synthesis Of Nonperipherally Tetra-[5-(Diethylamino)-2-Formylphenoxy] Substituted Metallophthalocyanines And Their Electrochemistry, Turgut Keleş, Di̇lek Ünlüer, Zekeri̇ya Biyiklioğlu, Yasemi̇n Ünver

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

3-[5-(diethylamino)-2-formylphenoxy]phthalonitrile (n-TY-CN), metallophthalocyanines n-TY-Co, n-TY-Cu, and n-TY-Mn bearing [5-(diethylamino)-2-formylphenoxy] groups at nonperipheral positions were prepared for the first time. These compounds were characterized with IR, NMR (only for n-TY-CN), mass and UV-vis (except n-TY-CN) spectroscopy. Voltammetric characterizations of n-TY-Co, n-TY-Cu, and n-TY-Mn revealed that while n-TY-Co, n-TY-Cu, and n-TY-Mn showed characteristic Pc ring and/or metal-based reduction reaction, n-TY-Co, n-TY-Cu, and n-TY-Mn were coated on the working electrode during the oxidation processes owing to the cationic electropolymerizations of the [5-(diethylamino)-2-formylphenoxy] substituents.

To improve bioavailability and stability of hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds, nanoemulsions are good alternatives as delivery systems because of their nontoxic and nonirritant nature. Glutathione (GSH) suffers from low stability in water, where its encapsulation in nanoemulsions is a powerful strategy to its stability in aqueous systems. The aim of this study was to obtain nanoemulsions from the hydrophobic/hydrophilic contents of N. sativa seed oil so as to improve GSH stability along with bioavailability of N. sativa seed oil. Then, the prepared nanoemulsions were tested for in vitro hepatoprotective activity against ethanol toxicity. To the best of our knowledge, there …

Cadmium dithiocarbamate and cadmium ethyl xanthate complexes were synthesized and characterized by microanalysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyses. The complexes were employed as molecular precursors for the fabrication of CdS nanoparticles in hexadecylamine (HDA) and oleylamine (OLA) at a temperature of 250 °C. Spherical and oval shaped particles with sizes ranging from 9.93 ± 1.89 to 16.74 ± 2.78 nm were obtained in OLA while spherical, oval and rod shaped particles with sizes ranging from 9.40 ± 1.65 to 29.90 ± 5.32 nm were obtained in HDA. Optical properties of the nanoparticles showed blue shifts as compared …

The Effect Of H$_{2}$O On The Sulfation Of Havelock Limestone Under Oxy-Fuel Conditions In Athermogravimetric Analyser, Murat Varol, Edward John Anthony, Arturo Macchi

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A gas mixture representing oxy-fuel combustion conditions was employed in a thermogravimetric analyser to determine the effect of water vapor and SO$_{2}$ concentration on limestone sulfation kinetics over the temperature range of 800 to 920 °C. Here, experiments used small samples of particles (4 mg), with small particle sizes (d$_{p}$ < 38 μm) and large gas flow rates (120 mL/min@ NTP) in order to minimize mass transfer interferences. The gas mixture contained 5000 ppm$_{v}$ SO$_{2}$, 2% O$_{2}$, and the H$_{2}$O content was changed from 0% to 25% with the balance CO$_{2}$. When water vapor was added to the gas mixture at lower temperatures (800-870 °C), the limestone SO$_{2}$ capture efficiency increased. However, as the temperature became higher, the enhancement in total conversion values decreased. As expected, Havelock limestone at higher temperatures (890 °C, 920 °C, and 950 °C) experienced indirect sulfation and reacted at a faster rate than for lower temperatures (800-870 °C) for direct sulfation over the first five minutes of reaction time. However, the total conversion of Havelock limestone for direct sulfation was generally greater than for indirect sulfation.

Spectroscopic Investigation Of Defect-State Emission In Cdse Quantum Dots, Gülhan Güleroğlu, Caner Ünlü

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

CdSe quantum dots are the most studied Cd-based quantum dots with their high quantum yield, high photostability, narrow emission band, and easy synthesis procedure. They are frequently used to develop light emitting diode (LED) due to their unique photo¬physical properties; however, their narrow emission band causes a challenge to design white LEDs because white light emission requires emission in multiple wavelengths with broad emission bands. Here in this study, we developed CdSe quantum dots with a narrow band-edge emission band and broad defect-state emission band through a modified two-phase synthesis method. Our results revealed that defect-state emission is directly linked …
