New Sandwich-Type Polymeric Potassium-Dicyanoargentate(I) Complex: Synthesis, Characterization And Enzymatic Activity, Nesri̇n Korkmaz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Coordination compounds containing dicyanoargentate(I) have remarkable biological potential due to their therapeutic antibacterial, antifungal, antibiofilm, and anticancer properties. In this study, a new dicyanoargentate(I)-based complex was synthesized and characterized by various procedures (elemental, thermal, FT-IR for complex) involving crystal analysis of the complex. In addition, the biological activity of this new compound on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme, an important enzyme for the nervous system, was investigated. When the infrared (IR) spectrum of the complex is examined, the OH vibration peak resulting from H$_{2}$O molecules in the structure at 3948-3337 cm$^{-1}$ and at 2138 cm$^{-1}$, along with a CN peak coordinated …

A Novel Proton-Exchange Porous Silicon Membrane Production Method For \Textmu Dmfcs, Meltem Gör Bölen, Tevhi̇t Karacali

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study introduces a new production method to use as a porous silicon-based proton exchange membrane for μDMFCs. In this respect, EIS, fuel crossover test, and fuel cell performance test at the μDMFC sample cell are performed at room temperature on a porous silicon-based membrane that was produced for passive mode μDMFC as a proton exchange membrane. The reason for performing the fuel crossover test is to ensure the silicon opened pores along the silicon wafer and to examine the fuel permeability of the membrane. The fuel crossover test shows that the fuel cell provides energy for about 60 min …

Turkey is the leading country in the world in terms of boron production and sale. Increasing boron production goes along with an increasing generation of boron wastes. The pollution of the soil and the air around the waste piles, as well as the occupation of several square kilometers of ground, are major environmental problems. It is, therefore, very important to make use of the wastes to both protect the environment and create revenue. This work presenteda road map for fast screening of boron waste for critical elements followed by determination of the elements using small footprint low power instrumentation. The …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of cholesterol and based hydrophobic urea and thiourea compounds were synthesized and successfully used as a cocatalyst for L-proline catalyzed aldol reactions in the presence of water. The anticonfigured products were obtained with good yields (up to 94%), high diastereoselectivities (up to 95:5), and high enantiomeric excesses (up to 93% ee). The successful results for catalytic efficiency of L-proline in the presence of water reveal the importance of the hydrophobic nature of cholesterol and diosgenin parts of thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity in the presence of water.

Magnetite Nanoparticles-Based Hydroxyl Radical Scavenging Activity Assay Ofantioxidants Using N, N-Dimethyl-P-Phenylenediamine Probe, Zi̇ya Can, Büşra Keski̇n, Ayşem Arda, Erol Erçağ, Mustafa Reşat Apak

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Excessive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS), unless counterbalanced by antioxidants, can cause cellular damage under oxidative stress conditions; therefore, antioxidative defenses against ROS must be measured. With the development of nanotechnology, nanoparticles have found numerous applications in science, health, and industries. Magnetite nanoparticles (Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$:MNPs) have attracted attention because of their peroxidase-like activity. In this study, hydroxyl radicals (?OH) generated by MNPs-catalyzed degradation of H$_{2}$O$_{2}$ converted the N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DMPD) probe into its colored DMPD$^{•+}$ radical cation, which gave an absorbance maximum at λ = 553 nm. In the presence of antioxidants, $^{•}$OH was partly scavenged by antioxidants and produced less …

Synthesis And Structural Analysis Of Nonstoichiometric Ternary Fulleride K1.5ba0.25csc60, Havva Esma Okur Kutay

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The existence of cation-vacancy sites in fullerides might lead to long-range ordering and generate a new vacancy-ordered superstructure. The purpose of this work is to search whether or not long-range ordering of vacant tetrahedral sites, namely superstructure emerges in nonstoichiometric K1.5Ba0.25CsC60 fulleride. Therefore, K1.5Ba0.25CsC60 with cation-vacancy sites is synthesized using a precursor method to avoid inadequate stoichiometry control and formation of impurity phases within the target composition. For this purpose, first, phase-pure K6C60, Ba6C60 and Cs6C60 precursors are synthesized. Stoichiometric quantities of these precursors are used for further reaction with C60 to afford K1.5Ba0.25CsC60. Rietveld analysis of the high-resolution synchrotron …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

[n.3.0]Bicycles (n = 3-6) can be synthesized using palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation followed by rutheniumcatalyzed cycloisomerization. New types of triarylphosphino-1,2-diaminooxazoline ligands show the same high levels of enantioselectivity observed with Trost ligand when employed in Pd-catalyzed allylic alkylation reactions. The enyne products of these allylic alkylation reactions were further elaborated using a Ru-catalyzed redox isomerization process, for which a mechanism is proposed.

In this study, new chalcone compound 1, new phthalonitrile derivatives 2 and 3, new copper(II), manganese(III) phthalocyanines bearing chalcone groups at peripheral or nonperipheral positions were synthesized. Electrochemistry of tetra-(4- {(2E)-3-[2-fluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]prop-2-enoyl}phenoxy) substituted Co(II)Pc and Mn(III)Pcs were studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV) to determine the redox properties of the phthalocyanines. According to the results, while the CuPcs 2a and 3a showed two Pc based reduction reactions and one Pc based oxidation reaction, MnPcs 2b and 3b gave two metal-based reduction reactions. All the redox processes are shifted toward positive potentials as a result of the increased electron-withdrawing ability of the trifluoromethyl …

This study reports the 3 new phthalonitrile derivatives, namely 4, 5 Bis-[4-(4-bromophenoxy) phenoxy] phthalonitrile (1), 4,5 Bis-[4-(4-chlorophenoxy) phenoxy]phthalonitrile (2), and 4, 5 Bis[4-(4-fluorophenoxy) phenoxy] phthalonitrile (3). Their octasubstituted zinc phthalocyanines (4, 5, 6) are reported for the first time in this study. The resulting compounds were characterized by utilizing some spectroscopic methods, such as UV-Vis, 1HNMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, as well as mass spectraand elemental analysis. To show photosynthesizer's potential, emission (FF), singlet oxygen (1O2), and photodegradation quantum yields (ΦΔ, Φd) of octaperipherally phthalocyanines (Pcs) were performed in the solutions, such as biocompatible solvent DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) as well as DMF …
