Effect Of Crosslinking Patterns On The Properties Of Conjugated Microporous Polymers, Hakan Bi̇ldi̇ri̇r

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Syntheses and detailed spectroscopic characterizations of two similar conjugated microporous polymers formed by A4 $+$ B2 and A2 $+$ B3 type functional monomers via Sonogashira--Hagihara polycondensation are presented in this report. The two porous polymeric networks possess mono-, di-, and tri- (1-, 1,4-, and 1,3,5-, respectively) substituted benzene rings and fused thiophenic moieties (dithienothiophenes). Because of the different conjugation patterns, their solid state nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, and ultraviolet/visible light absorption analyses indicated significant differences. Besides the discussions on the porous properties of the obtained polymeric networks, the presented spectroscopic investigations can be useful for identifying the structure-property relationship of …

Chiral 1,4-Aminoalkylphenols For Enantioselective Diethylzinc Addition To Aldehydes, Ömer Di̇lek, Mustafa Ali̇ Tezeren, Tahi̇r Ti̇lki̇, Erkan Ertürk

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Starting from a chiral secondary alcohol, novel enantiopure 1,4-aminoalkylphenols (AAPs) were prepared by exploiting conventional organic transformations such as the Mitsunobu reaction, Eschweiler--Clarke N-methylation, and demethylation of anisoles. The catalytic activity of the 1,4-AAPs was investigated in enantioselective Et$_{2}$Zn addition to benzaldehyde. They were found to accelerate the Et$_{2}$Zn addition to benzaldehyde. High yields and enantioselectivities (e.g., 95% yield and 82% ee) were achieved.

Effect Of Fe Substitution On The Partial Oxidation Of Methane To Syngas Over La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$Co$_{1-Y}$Fe$_{Y}$O$_{3-\Delta}$ Perovskites, Adilah Aliyatulmuna, Perry Burhan, Bambang Prijamboedi, Hamzah Fansuri, Irmina Kris Murwani Jan 2019

Effect Of Fe Substitution On The Partial Oxidation Of Methane To Syngas Over La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$Co$_{1-Y}$Fe$_{Y}$O$_{3-\Delta}$ Perovskites, Adilah Aliyatulmuna, Perry Burhan, Bambang Prijamboedi, Hamzah Fansuri, Irmina Kris Murwani

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this research, a series of La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$Co$_{1-y}$Fe$_{y}$O$_{3-\delta }$ ($y =$ 0.0--0.4) was successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction method and syngas production studies were performed using gas chromatography. Thermogravimetric analysis characterized the concentration of Fe$^{3+}$, which gave a low H$_{2}$/CO ratio over La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$Co$_{1-y}$Fe$_{y}$O$_{3-\delta }$ without the presence of molecular oxygen. All samples possessed a purely rhombohedral structure. The incorporation of more Fe increased the lattice parameter and changed XRD peaks of the La$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$Co$_{0.8}$Fe$_{0.2}$O$_{3}$ from sharp and single to double. Among the catalyst powders tested for syngas production activity, La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$Co$_{0.6}$Fe$_{0.4}$O$_{3-\delta }$ ($y =$ 0.4) had the low molar ratio of H$_{2}$/CO …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC)/calcium carbonate nanocomposites were successfully prepared by the incorporation of calcium carbonate (CaCO$_{3})$ nanoparticles into the CPVC matrix. The compatibility between the two phases was obtained by surface modification of the CaCO$_{3}$ nanoparticles with stearic acid, leading to improved material performance. The effects of the addition of different amounts of CaCO$_{3}$ nanoparticles to the CPVC on the thermal, mechanical, and morphological characteristics of the CPVC/CaCO$_{3}$ nanocomposites were investigated. The thermal stability of the CPVC/CaCO$_{3}$ nanocomposites was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis~and differential scanning calorimetry. In addition, the surface texture of the CPVC and the dispersion of the CaCO$_{3}$ …

Synthesis, Kinetic Study, And Reaction Mechanism: Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions Of Butyl Methyl Chlorophosphate With Substituted Anilines And Deuterated Substituted Anilines In Acetonitrile, Hasi Rani Barai, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Sang Woo Joo

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study demonstrated the kinetics of nucleophilic substitution reactions of butyl methyl chlorophosphate (2) with X-anilines (XC$_{6}$H$_{4}$NH$_{2})$ and deuterated X-anilines (XC$_{6}$H$_{4}$ND$_{2})$ in MeCN at 55.0 \textpm\ 0.1 \textdegree C together with the general optimized method for the synthesis of 2 under mild conditions. Different spectroscopic characterizations revealed the formation of 2 with high purity. The free energy relationship with the substituents X in the anilines exhibited biphasic concavity upwards with a break point at X $=$ H, which induced large negative $\rho_{X}$ and small positive $\beta_{X}$ values. The deuterium kinetic isotope effects (DKIEs) were secondary inverse ($k_{H}$/$k_{D}$ \textless\ 1: 0.702--0.918) …

Pore Length- And Ion Concentration-Dependent Ionic Current In Cylindrical Nanopores: An Atomistic Molecular Dynamics Study, Nazar İleri̇ Ercan Jan 2019

Pore Length- And Ion Concentration-Dependent Ionic Current In Cylindrical Nanopores: An Atomistic Molecular Dynamics Study, Nazar İleri̇ Ercan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The sensing of individual molecules as they pass through nanopores under an external field is a popular research field. The approach is simply based on the detectable temporary blockades in the ionic current as the molecules pass through the nanopores. These signatures of the current have been shown to be a function of nanoparticle and nanopore size and geometry as well as the external electric field. However, models developed in this context fail to predict the experimentally observed behavior in technologically important shorter nanopores. Here we present atomistic molecular dynamics simulation results from colloidal nanoparticle translocation through mid-to-low aspect ratio …

A Case Study Of Antiaromaticity: Carbomethoxy Cyclopropenyl Anion, Zi̇kri̇ Altun, Erdi̇ Ata Bleda, Carl Trindle Jan 2019

A Case Study Of Antiaromaticity: Carbomethoxy Cyclopropenyl Anion, Zi̇kri̇ Altun, Erdi̇ Ata Bleda, Carl Trindle

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The simplest ideas of antiaromaticity refer to regular monocyclic systems and the eigenfunctions of the H\"{u}ckel Hamiltonian for 4n $\pi $ electrons in such systems. The antiaromaticity is expressed in the energy penalty for such idealized systems relative to the H\"{u}ckel energy for 2n noninteracting $\pi $ pairs. Observed systems seldom achieve the regular planar geometry assumed in this picture, owing to their ability to ease the antiaromaticity penalty by departures from the regular geometry and also by export of the 4n $\pi $ electrons' charge to substituents. In this report we estimate numerical values for the stabilization derived from …

Design, Synthesis, And Evaluation Of The Antimycobacterial Activity Of 3-Mercapto-1,2,4-Triazole--Pyrrole Hybrids, Gheorghe Roman, Andra-Cristina Bostanaru, Valentin Nastasa, Mihai Mares

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole--pyrrole hybrids was designed as antimycobacterial agents by employing 5-(4-(1$H$-pyrrol-1-yl)phenyl)-4$H$-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol as the scaffold onto which several types of moieties were introduced in the triazole ring at N-4 and N-2 and as substituents of the mercapto function. The aforementioned moieties are an allyl or a phenyl moiety at N-4; an aminomethyl group at N-2; or methyl, substituted benzyl, ethoxycarbonylmethyl, or substituted phenacyl at sulfur. Investigation of the compounds in the resulting library as growth inhibitors of Mycobacterium smegmatis showed that their minimum inhibitory concentration was higher than 64 mg/L.

Catalytic Hydrogenation Of Furfural And Furfuryl Alcohol To Fuel Additives And Value-Added Chemicals, Obaid Aldosari, Hamed Alshammari, Mosaed Alhumaimess, Ibrahim Wawata

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The selective hydrogenation of furfural and furfuryl alcohol at different temperatures has been studied using several catalysts. The effect of various reaction conditions (pressure, catalyst amount, and solvent) was studied. We have shown that Pd/TiO$_{2}$ catalysts can be very effective for the synthesis of 2-methylfuran at room temperature. Using octane as a solvent, the solvent effectiveness was investigated and showed actively high selectivity towards 2-methylfuran and furfuryl alcohol, but there were many byproducts that were still noticed. Although adding Ru to the Pd/TiO$_{2}$ catalyst contributed to reducing the catalytic activity, this addition improved the selectivity to 2-methylfuran and furfuryl alcohol …

Synthesis Of Highly Active Crystalline Carbon Nitride Prepared In Various Salt Melts For Photocatalytic Degradation Of Phenol, Mohd Hayrie Mohd Hatta, Hendrik Oktendy Lintang, Siew Ling Lee, Leny Yuliati

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Crystallinity could have a decisive influence on photocatalytic performance. In this study, the synthesis of crystalline carbon nitride (CN) was studied via an ionic melt polycondensation of urea precursor in the presence of various salt melts, which were KCl-LiCl, KCl-NaCl, and KCl-ZnCl$_{2}$. While all the salt melts helped to improve the optical properties of the CN, only KCl-LiCl salt melt could form crystalline CN as evidenced by its X-ray diffraction pattern. Furthermore, the specific surface area of CN (72 m$^{2}$/g) was maintained when using KCl-LiCl (73 m$^{2}$/g), but it was decreased in the presence of KCl-NaCl (22 m$^{2}$/g) or KCl-ZnCl$_{2}$ …

Novel "Turn Off-On" Sensors For Detection Of Dna-Acrylamide Interaction Using Zns Quantum Dots As A Phosphorescent Probe, Hayri̇ye Eda Şatana Kara Jan 2019

Novel "Turn Off-On" Sensors For Detection Of Dna-Acrylamide Interaction Using Zns Quantum Dots As A Phosphorescent Probe, Hayri̇ye Eda Şatana Kara

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel "turn off-on" sensor for detection of interaction between DNA and acrylamide (ACR) was developed. In this method, L-cysteine capped Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were used as room temperature phosphorescent probes. In the ``turn-off'' mode, ACR was absorbed onto the surface of QDs via electrostatic interaction, which caused a quenching effect of room-temperature phosphorescence signal by photoinduced electron-transfer mechanism. ACR was removed from the QDs' surface with the addition of DNA. Thus, the phosphorescence emission of QDs was recovered and the system was turned to the ``turn-on'' mode. The quenching mechanism of QDs by ACR was collisional (dynamic) …

1,2-Dibromotetrachloroethane: An Efficient Reagent For Many Transformations By Modified Appel Reaction, Selçuk Eşsi̇z, Ari̇f Daştan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

An efficient and facile method has been developed for the synthesis of alkyl bromides from various alcohols under mild conditions using a triphenylphosphine (PPh$_{3})$/1,2-dibromotetrachloroethane (DBTCE) complex in excellent yields and very short time (5 min). This method can also be applied for the transformation of chiral alcohols to their corresponding bromides in very high enantiomeric excess. The PPh$_{3}$/DBTCE complex is also successfully applied to ring-opening reactions of cyclic ethers in mild conditions. Esterification, amidation, and formation of acid anhydrides under very mild experimental conditions are also successfully accomplished by following a modification of the Appel reaction protocol in this work.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Quaternary ammonium salts are a group of compounds with diverse biological properties, the most important of which are their antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. The quaternization reactions of 5'-$O$-tosyl derivatives of uridine and thymidine with triethylamine, trimethylamine, 4-($N$,$N$-dimethylamino)pyridine, 2-methylpyridine, and pyridine are described in this article. Two of the synthesized compounds are exceptional because they are first of this type that demonstrate concentration-dependent antifungal in vitro activity against two species of the genus Candida in minimal YNB-SG medium. The experimental results have been extended by adding full atom molecular dynamics simulations and substrates and products energies evaluation.

Plasma O$_{2}$ Modifies The Structure Of Synthetic Zeolite-A To Improve The Removal Of Cadmium Ions From Aqueous Solutions, Alaa Fahmy, Ahmed Elzaref, Hanan Youssef, Hassan Shehata, Magdy Wassel, Jörg Friedrich, Fabienne Poncin-Epaillard, Dominique Debarnot

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The present study addresses the removal of cadmium ions (Cd(II)) from aqueous solutions at a pH of 7.5 using zeolite-A activated by exposure to oxygen plasma. The activation process was performed over a wide range of plasma powers (10, 20, 30, and 40 W) and exposure times (30 to 360 s). Oxygen plasma cannot chemically modify zeolite to a considerable extent, but it can clean the surface, open blocked pores, and induce the formation of additional OH groups via exposure to humidity in ambient air. Therefore, Cd$^{+2}$ ion removal is increased by approximately 10% with the plasma treatments. Infrared-attenuated total …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

1,2-Ethylene-bis(para-methyl pyridinium) dichromate, (C$_{14}$H$_{18}$N$_{2})$[Cr$_{2}$O$_{7}$], is used as a new oxidizing agent in conversion of some alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds in CH$_{3}$CN solvent and also under solvent-free conditions. In both procedures, high conversion percentages are observed. However, a much shorter reaction time is achieved in solvent-free conditions. For allylic alcohols, the C=C bond is not oxidized and the examined saturated alcohol in this work (i.e. cyclo-hexanol) remains intact, which illustrates the mild nature of reagent used. The structure of the reagent is investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The C--H$\cdots$O and O$\cdots \pi$ interactions are the most important features …

Computational Investigation Of Influenza A Virus M2 Protein Inhibition Mechanism By Ion Channel Blockers, Mehmet Özbi̇l Jan 2019

Computational Investigation Of Influenza A Virus M2 Protein Inhibition Mechanism By Ion Channel Blockers, Mehmet Özbi̇l

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The M2 protein of the influenza A virus, responsible for flu, is a homotetramer transmembrane protein, forming a transmembrane ion channel, where His 37s act as pH sensors and Trp 41s and Asp 44s act as channel gates. Opening of this channel leads to transfer of virus RNA into the human host. Thus, blocking this transfer is an important pharmaceutical strategy to stop infection. As a result of viral drug resistance, commercially available channel inhibitors, rimantadine (RIM) and amantadine (AMA), are not as effective as they used to be. Understanding binding sites and outcomes of binding will lead to new …
