A Theoretical Investigation On The Activation Of Small Molecules By A Disilenide: A Dft Prediction, Cem Burak Yildiz, Akin Azi̇zoğlu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Herein, we proposed several mechanistic scenarios for activation of small molecules (NH$_{3}$, CO$_{2}$, CS$_{2}$, H$_{2}$, CH$_{4}$, N$_{2}$, and N$_{2}$O) by a disilicon analogue of a vinyl anion (1H) using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The DFT results established that all the possible reactions to yield a variety of potential products have an exergonic nature except for the activation of N$_{2}$ with the obtained overall energy of $\Delta $G = 33.6 kcal mol$^{-1}$. Moreover, the highest exergonic character was $\Delta $G = $-$95.8 kcal mol$^{-1}$ for N$_{2}$O. Therefore, the findings reveal that 1H can be considered a suitable candidate for activation …

Enhanced Uptake Capacities And Isosteric Heats Of Co$_{2}$ And Ch$_{4}$ Adsorption On Spent Coffee Ground Activated Carbons Loaded With Metal Ions, Çi̇sem Kirbiyik, Burak Zafer Büyükbekar, Mahmut Kuş, Mustafa Ersöz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Low-cost activated carbon (AC) samples obtained from waste coffee grounds were used for CO$_{2}$ and CH$_{4}$ adsorption. ACs were prepared by chemical activation and carbonized at three different temperatures. AC carbonized at 800 $^{\circ}$C showed a relatively high surface area (582.92 m$^{2}$ g$^{-1})$ and high adsorption capacities of 2.6 mmol g$^{-1}$ and 1.1 mmol g$^{-1}$ at 25 $^{\circ}$C for CO$_{2}$ and CH$_{4}$, respectively. Adsorbent samples were prepared by loading of Fe$^{3+}$ metal ions onto ACs and their adsorption capacities were compared with those of nonloaded ACs. As expected, the loading of Fe$^{3+}$ metal ions increased the adsorption capacities at all …

Sensitive Biological Detection Based On Langmuir--Blodgett Films Prepared From Diluted Silica Suspensions, Numan Gözübenli̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Self-assembled three-dimensional (3-D) colloidal crystals have been extensively utilized in nanolithography for fabricating a wide spectrum of functional periodic nanostructures for important technological applications. Here a simple and versatile way is reported using silica colloids to prepare close-packed particle multilayers by the Langmuir--Blodgett technique to create highly ordered 3-D colloidal crystals with unusual nanoarrays on a large variety of substrates. Successive deposition of monolayers using amphiphilic molecules in this approach allows control of the layer thickness, particle size, and especially packing structure of them in each layer. It has been demonstrated that the Langmuir--Blodgett film's transparency and high antiglare optical …

Hydrogen Storage In Formic Acid As A Renewable Energy Source Using Heterogeneous Catalysis, Obaid Aldosari

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

One of the most vital chemicals, which is not only found naturally but can also be synthesized in the laboratory, is formic acid (FA). FA is a key byproduct of several second-generation biorefinery processes as well, and it is used in several pharmaceutical and industrial applications. Recently, another significant use of FA that is taking the lead is as a form of fuel. This could either involve reformation, as a possible form of chemical hydrogen storage, or be done without reformation in the form of FA fuel cells, in particular because FA fuel cells are much more effective than other …

Detection Of Lard Contamination In Five Different Edible Oils By Ft-Ir Spectroscopy Using A Partial Least Squares Calibration Model, Fazeelah Munir, Syed Ghulam Musharraf, Syed Tufail Hussain Sherazi, Muhammad Imran Malik, Muhmmad Iqbal Bhanger

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Lard is defined as animal fat acquired from the adipose tissue of pigs and is not permitted for human consumption or external use by certain religions such as Islam and Judaism. Due to its low-cost availability for commercial use, it is often mixed with other vegetable oils mistakenly or deliberately and causes loss of consumer trust; hence, its detection in food products is essential. Consumers tend to know the authenticity of commercially available edible oils. However, edible oils are subjected to adulteration risks with lard, which breaches consumer rights. In the present study, we designed a transmission Fourier transform infrared …

Novel Voltammetric Investigation Of Dipyridamole At A Disposable Pencil Graphite Electrode, Iulia Gabriela David, Lorelei Iordache, Dana Elena Popa, Mihaela Buleandra, Victor David, Emilia-Elena Iorgulescu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The present paper describes the voltammetric analysis of dipyridamole (DIP) at a cheap, disposable pencil graphite electrode (PGE). The working conditions were optimized with regard to the electrode material and the supporting electrolyte. Cyclic voltammetric investigations emphasized that DIP is irreversibly oxidized at the PGE. The electrode process is pH-dependent and controlled by both diffusion and adsorption. For DIP quantitative determination a differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) method in phosphate buffer solution pH 7.00 was developed. DIP's oxidation peak current varied linearly with the analyte concentration, presenting two linear ranges, namely 5.00 $\times $ 10$^{-7}$-2.50 $\times $ 10$^{-5}$ M and 2.50 …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Carbon nanotubes have emerged as highly promising theranostic agents due to their unique structural/physical features, high surface area, and high drug-loading capacity. The high cytotoxicity of carbon nanotubes can be eliminated by noncovalent coating using hydrophilic polymers. We investigated the adsorption of long pyrene functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains, PEG$_{2000}$ and PEG$_{5000}$, on a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) from a crowded solution. Full-atom molecular dynamics simulations in explicit water were used to mimic the experimental conditions of noncovalent PEGylation with a stoichiometry of one SWNT to ten pyrene-PEG. Although the diffusional behavior of the pyrene molecules still attached to the …

Asymmetric capacitors are gaining attention due to their hybrid nature with higher power and energy density compared to individual batteries or capacitors. Electrochemical and structural characteristics of flexible graphite in 40% H$_{2}$SO$_{4\, }$electrolyte are investigated using electrochemical and microscopy techniques. There is a correlation between intercalation of electrolyte and the enlargement of interlayer spacing and electrochemical response. Conditions favoring planar orientation are electrochemically less active and more stable in such corrosive electrolytes. There are response variations between plain and resin-impregnated flexible graphite samples. The reaction peak seems to be reversible for resin impregnated samples while plain samples show continuous intercalation. …

We report the synthesis and liquid crystalline properties of a new type of tribranched compound built up from triazine as the central core and electron-rich triazine rings as peripheral groups. An equimolar mixture of the star-shaped compound based on the 1,3,5-triazine core with 4-dodecyloxybenzoic acid produced an organic salt exhibiting a columnar mesophase with a dendritic growing texture at low temperatures. The liquid crystalline properties of the triazine-based compound and organic salt were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy.
