Performance Analysis Of The Link Selection For Secure Device-To-Device Communications With An Untrusted Relay, Sonia Naderi, Mohammad Reza Javan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, we study the performance of the selection combining and switch and stay combining methods in secure cooperative device-to-device (D2D) communications underlying a cellular network where an untrusted amplify and forward relay helps D2D communications. In our model, we specifically consider the interference from the cellular system over the D2D pair and the interference from the D2D pair over the cellular system. We assume that D2D communication is performed in such a way that the required outage probability of the cellular system is preserved. We obtain an exact closed-form expression for the lower bound of secrecy outage probability …

A New Approach To Pulse Deinterleaving Based On Adaptive Thresholding, Mostafa Bagheri, Mohammad Hossein Sedaaghi Jan 2017

A New Approach To Pulse Deinterleaving Based On Adaptive Thresholding, Mostafa Bagheri, Mohammad Hossein Sedaaghi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Since histogram-based methods are formed by some simple differences, they are very desirable for deinterleaving. However, their main imperfection concerns recognizing complex pulse repetition interval (PRI) patterns like jittered and staggered ones.In this paper, we present new thresholds to detect jittered and staggered PRI from histogram-based methods even in complex circumstances such as noisy time of arrival (TOA), complex PRI patterns, and large missing pulses. Simulation results demonstrate that our method can detect and extract constant, jittered, and staggered PRI correctly. Moreover, the method is proved to be considerably robust and reliable at a missing pulses rate up to 30%.

Fault Location In Distribution Systems With Dg Based On Similarity Of Fault Impedance, Zahra Moravej, Omid Hajhossani, Mohammad Pazoki

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a new method for locating a fault in distribution systems using the similarity of fault impedance. A four-step approach is proposed to locate the fault in the networks. First, pre- and during-fault voltages from smart feeders along the primary feeders are measured. Second, three-phase impedance to calculate fault current corresponding to voltage deviation from each smart meter is achieved. Third, a relation between fault current and fault impedance for each type of fault is extracted. Finally, based on the similarity of the estimated fault impedance for each bus, an error index is calculated. Moreover, an auxiliary process …

A Spatial Load Forecasting Method Based On Load Regularity Analysis, Bai Xiao, Tongtong Liu Jan 2017

A Spatial Load Forecasting Method Based On Load Regularity Analysis, Bai Xiao, Tongtong Liu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new method, based on regularity analysis of cellular load, is presented to determine the reasonable maximum of the load density index method of spatial load forecasting (SLF). Through analysis of cellular historical load data, each cellular load is decomposed into regular and random components. The regular part is used to reveal the regularity of the cellular load in different cycles, using random components to describe and characterize the intrinsic error of the cellular load. Adverse effects that occur by eliminating random components to suppress the intrinsic error allow extraction of the maximum of the regular part as the Class …

Generalized Referenceless Image Quality Assessment Framework Using Texture Energy Measures And Pattern Strength Features, Jayashri Bagade, Kulbir Singh, Yogesh Dandawate Jan 2017

Generalized Referenceless Image Quality Assessment Framework Using Texture Energy Measures And Pattern Strength Features, Jayashri Bagade, Kulbir Singh, Yogesh Dandawate

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Referenceless image quality assessment is a challenging and critical problem in today's multimedia applica\-tions. Texture patterns in images are normally at high frequencies compared to lower ones. Due to the effect of distortions during acquisition, compression, and transmission, texture deviation artifacts are generated that cause a granular effect in the image. Other artifacts, such as blocking, affect high frequencies in an image, causing distorted edges. Combining the analysis of texture deviation and other artifacts helps in determining the quality of an image. The proposed approach uses variation in the energy of pixels to quantify the quality of an image. These …

S-Visibility Problem In Vlsi Chip Design, Marzieh Eskandari, Mahdieh Yeganeh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a new version of very large scale integration (VLSI) layouts compaction problem is considered. Bar visibility graph (BVG) is a simple geometric model for VLSI chip design and layout problems. In all previous works, vertical bars or other chip components in the plane model gates, as well as edges, are modeled by horizontal visibilities between bars. In this study, for a given set of vertical bars, the edges can be modeled with orthogonal paths known as staircases. Therefore, we consider a new version of bar visibility graphs (BsVG). We then present an algorithm to solve the s-visibility …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a triband bandpass filter is presented using a dual-layer structure. Three H-shaped resonators are utilized in the proposed structure. The first and third resonators are placed at the top and bottom layers, respectively. The second resonator is divided into two parts: one half is on the top and the other half is at the bottom. The effective permittivity at the first and second layers is different, resulting in different resonant frequencies. The fabricated triband bandpass filter operates at 5.44/6.98/8.36 GHz, with fractional bandwidths of 6.6% 6% 2.9% and measured minimal insertion losses of 1.9/1.7/2 dB.

Designing A Regulatory Framework For Efficient Integration Of Distributed Generation Technologies, Mohammad Jooshaki, Ali Abbaspour, Mahmud Fotuhi Firuzabad, Moein Moeini-Aghtaie

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper focuses on the designing procedure of a regulatory framework in distribution networks with the main goal being to facilitate the integration of distributed generation (DG) units. The proposed framework is based on the concept of the reward penalty scheme (RPS) and creates effective financial incentives for distribution companies (DISCOs) in improving the quality of their services by applying DG units. To achieve this goal, reliability indices and annual energy losses of a distribution network are considered as two significant measures used in designing the structure of several RPSs. Employing these schemes, the regulators can quantify the quality of …

Active-Only Variable-Gain Low-Pass Filter For Dual-Mode Multiphase Sinusoidal Oscillator Application, Pipat Prommee, Narongsak Manositthichai, Fabian Khateb

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This research presents an active-only low-pass (LP) filter whose pole frequency and gain are independently tunable by means of bias current manipulation. The realization of the proposed LP filter required one operational amplifier, two operational transconductance amplifiers, and two MOS transistors. The multiphase sinusoidal oscillator (MSO) was subsequently realized by cascading $n$ LP filters ($n$ = 3) and loop-backing the output of the last LP filter to the input of the first LP filter. Simulations were carried out and the results revealed that the MSO could simultaneously achieve low impedance voltage and high impedance current outputs without the circuit topology …

New Magnet Shape For Reducing Torque Ripple In An Outer-Rotor Permanent-Magnet Machine, Yusuf Özoğlu Jan 2017

New Magnet Shape For Reducing Torque Ripple In An Outer-Rotor Permanent-Magnet Machine, Yusuf Özoğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Torque ripple is a major problem for permanent-magnet (PM) machines. It is examined by focusing on the magnetic circuit of the PM machine. Because there is a relationship between the torque ripple and the magnetic energy that is stored in the magnetic field along the air gap of the PM machine, a variation in the magnetic energy was revealed initially. A new magnet geometry is obtained by forming ledges and notches in the permanent magnets to modify the variation of the magnetic energy and the fluctuation in torque. Thus, a new PM design is proposed in this study to minimize …

Sotarm: Size Of Transaction-Based Association Rule Mining Algorithm, Asha Pandian, Jebarajan Thaveethu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Mining of association rules tries to identify the existence of promising and fruitful relations among the items present in a database. The basic a priori algorithm suffers from multiple database scans, and if the database is large, then the time taken for scanning and generation of candidates is also large. The proposed algorithm attempts to reduce the repeated scanning of the whole database. Using this algorithm, scanning time and also the generation of subitems that are not frequent can be reduced. The former can be done by sorting the transaction records in descending order based on the size of transaction …

Implementation Of Svc Based On Grey Theory And Fuzzy Logic To Improve Lvrt Capability Of Wind Distributed Generations, Mohammad Mehdi Karami, Akbar Itami

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Due to the great absorption of reactive power after voltage drops caused by faults in network, the low-voltage ride through (LVRT) capability of squirrel cage induction generators (SCIGs) in wind farms is a great challenge. If a static VAR compensator (SVC) is installed at the point of common coupling (PCC) of a wind farm with a main network, it can improve the wind generation's LVRT capability with reactive power compensation. In the voltage control loop of a conventional SVC, the voltage actual value of the PCC is compared with the reference voltage value. This paper presents a method for implementation …

A Combined Approach Based On Fuzzy Ahp And Fuzzy Inference System To Rank Reviewers In Online Communities, Hossein Abbasimehr, Mohammadjafar Tarokh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Online product review communities allow users to share their ideas and opinions about various products and services. Although online reviews as user-generated content can be considered as an invaluable source of information for both consumers and firms, these reviews tend to be of very different quality. To tackle the problem of low quality reviews, we address reviewer credibility and propose an innovative framework. The framework comprises five critical phases for ranking reviewers in terms of credibility using a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy inference system. To determine the weights of the features, a fuzzy AHP method was applied. …

Insulation system reliability against this tangential component is presented as a safety factor. Two methods based on cumulative …

Robust Optimal Stabilization Of Balance Systems With Parametric Variations, Salman Zaffar, Attaullah Memon Jan 2017

Robust Optimal Stabilization Of Balance Systems With Parametric Variations, Salman Zaffar, Attaullah Memon

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper proposes a method of robust optimal stabilization for balance systems such as rocket and missile systems, Segway human transportation systems, and inverted pendulum systems. Constant-gain controllers such as linear-quadratic regulators may not guarantee stability let alone optimality for balance systems affected by parametric variations. The robust stability and robust performance achieved through the proposed variable-gain controller are better than those of the linear-quadratic regulator. The proposed controller consists of two components, one of which is designed offline for nominal values of parametric variations and one of which is updated online for off-nominal values of parametric variations. A salient …

Robust Adaptive Fuzzy Control Of A Three-Phase Active Power Filter Based On Feedback Linearization, Shixi Hou, Juntao Fei

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a robust adaptive fuzzy control system using feedback linearization is proposed for a three-phase active power filter (APF). The APF system is divided into two separate loops: the current dynamic inner loop and the DC voltage dynamic outer loop. Adaptive fuzzy tracking control using feedback linearization is employed for the current dynamic inner loop to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional method. The proposed controller can ensure proper tracking of the reference current and impose desired dynamic behavior, giving robustness and insensitivity to parameter variations. Adaptive fuzzy proportional-integral control is applied to the DC voltage dynamics outer …

A Novel Approach To Solve Transient Stability Constrained Optimal Power Flow Problems, Huy Nguyen-Duc, Linh Tran-Hoai, Dieu Vo Ngoc Jan 2017

A Novel Approach To Solve Transient Stability Constrained Optimal Power Flow Problems, Huy Nguyen-Duc, Linh Tran-Hoai, Dieu Vo Ngoc

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper proposes an approach to solve the transient stability constraint optimal power flow (TSC-OPF) problem. The transient stability constraints are expressed as the critical clearing time (CCT) of different contingencies, and are approximated using artificial neural networks (ANNs). The ANNs provide a nonlinear, differentiable mapping between the load flow variables and the CCT. As a result, the TSC-OPF with multiple transient stability constraints can be solved very efficiently with little additional computational burden. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with the IEEE 39 bus and the IEEE 300 bus systems.
