sculpting system by using a hash-based octree data structure with an optimized approach to reduce the huge memory and computation cost and also the tree traversal time. The system first reads the selected 3D virtual object model, which must be in a triangular watertight polygon mesh format. Then both the surface and the interior volume of the virtual object is voxelized in order to generate its volumetric dataset. Afterwards, a hash-based data structure with a novel optimized approach is applied to the dataset. After each sculpting process applied to the virtual object, its surface is locally reconstructed and a feedback …

residential consumer and the power network. With the growth of power systems and the advent of new energy sources, such as solar energy, it seems to be more essential to investigate how the network and the consumer can interact with each other to achieve more financial benefits. To do that, a static game is defined considering the fact that there is a direct relationship between the amount of load shifted by the consumer and the incentive offered by the network. It is concluded that the Nash equilibrium of this game is when the consumer decides to cooperate with the network …

headlamps in the dark is inferable from the results of studies. Various regulations are available in order to arrange the required illuminance values at certain positions on the road. The designed and produced headlamps have to satisfy the requirements of these regulations. Manual measurement tools, such as the luxmeter (which are based on point-by-point measurements), have traditionally been used. This traditional way has been considered inefficient in terms of awkward setup procedures, complexity, the continuous intervention of human operators, and costs. In this study, in order to overcome these problems, a new approach for measuring the illuminance values is proposed. …

crowded scenes. A new concept of atomic event is introduced into this framework, which is the basic component of video events. Different from previous bag-of-words (BoW) modeling-based methods that represent feature descriptors using only one code word, a feature descriptor is represented using a few more atomic events in bag-of-atomic-events (BoAE) modeling. Consequently, the approximation error is reduced by using the obtained BoAE representation. In the context of abnormal event detection, BoAE representation is more suitable to describe abnormal events than BoW representation, because the abnormal event may not correspond to any code word in BoW modeling. Fast latent Dirichlet …

to the different services in mobile broadband networks (WiMAX, LTE). A new connection is admitted only when the network can support the QoS needs of the connection without degrading the QoS for existing connections. An efficient call admission control algorithm ensures higher throughput and fewer delays for the admitted connections. In this paper a graded priority-based call admission control algorithm is proposed for LTE and WiMAX networks. The number of permissible connections shall be segregated into two classes. The new connection shall be graded, prioritized, and admitted based on the device requesting the connection. Simulation results show that graded priority-based …

Stability Criterion For Uncertain 2-$D$ Discrete Systems With Interval-Like Time-Varying Delay Employing Quantization/Overflow Nonlinearities, Siva Kumar Tadepalli, Venkata Krishna Rao Kandanvli, Haranath Kar Jan 2016

Stability Criterion For Uncertain 2-$D$ Discrete Systems With Interval-Like Time-Varying Delay Employing Quantization/Overflow Nonlinearities, Siva Kumar Tadepalli, Venkata Krishna Rao Kandanvli, Haranath Kar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper considers the problem of global asymptotic stability of a class of two-dimensional (2-$D$) uncertain discrete systems described by the Fornasini-Marchesini second local state-space (FMSLSS) model under the influence of various combinations of quantization/overflow nonlinearities and interval-like time-varying delay in the state. The systems under consideration involve parameter uncertainties that are assumed to be deterministic and norm-bounded. A delay-dependent stability criterion is established by bounding the forward difference of the 2-$D$ Lyapunov functional using the reciprocally convex approach. The criterion is compared with a recently reported criterion.

Intensity Exposure-Based Bi-Histogram Equalization For Image Enhancement, Tang Jing Rui, Nor Ashidi Mat Isa Jan 2016

Intensity Exposure-Based Bi-Histogram Equalization For Image Enhancement, Tang Jing Rui, Nor Ashidi Mat Isa

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, we present a study of the usage of intensity exposure in histogram segmentation and its performance in histogram equalization. Two techniques are proposed: the mean-based bi-histogram equalization plateau limit (mean-BHEPL) or median-based BHEPL (median-BHEPL) and adaptive bi-histogram equalization algorithm (ABHE). Both techniques initially divide the input histogram into two subhistograms through a threshold value computed from the intensity exposure of the image. Histogram clipping for mean-BHEPL and median-BHEPL is then performed on these subhistograms using the mean and median values, respectively. Conventional histogram equalization is also implemented on each clipped subhistogram. The second proposed technique, ABHE, applies …

Statistical Learning Approaches In Diagnosing Patients With Nontraumatic Acute Abdomen, Gökmen Zararsiz, Hizir Yakup Akyildiz, Di̇nçer Göksülük, Selçuk Korkmaz, Ahmet Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A quick evaluation is required for patients with acute abdominal pain. It is crucial to differentiate between surgical and nonsurgical pathology. Practical and accurate tests are essential in this differentiation. Lately, D-dimer level has been found to be an important adjuvant in this diagnosis and obviously outperforms leukocyte count, which is widely used for diagnosis of certain cases. Here, we handle this problem from a statistical perspective and combine the information from leukocyte count with D-dimer level to increase the diagnostic accuracy of nontraumatic acute abdomen. For this purpose, various statistical learning algorithms are considered and model performances are assessed …

Energy Efficient Multiconstrained Optimization Using Hybrid Aco And Ga In Manet Routing, Nivetha Senthil Kumaran, Asokan Ramasamy Jan 2016

Energy Efficient Multiconstrained Optimization Using Hybrid Aco And Ga In Manet Routing, Nivetha Senthil Kumaran, Asokan Ramasamy

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Nodes in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) suffer from limited battery power and bandwidth. Particularly for real time multimedia communications through MANET, metrics like residual node energy, bandwidth, and end-to-end delay have major impacts. In MANET, designing a dynamic routing algorithm to satisfy quality of service (QoS) requirements is a challenging task. Additionally, multiconstrained QoS routing aims to optimize multiple QoS metrics while providing required network resources and is an admittedly complex problem. It has been proved to be NP-complete when a combination of additive, concave, and multiplicative metrics are considered. Hence, this problem can be solved using metaheuristic methods …

The Use Of Cross-Company Fault Data For The Software Fault Prediction Problem, Çağatay Çatal Jan 2016

The Use Of Cross-Company Fault Data For The Software Fault Prediction Problem, Çağatay Çatal

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

We investigated how to use cross-company (CC) data in software fault prediction and in predicting the fault labels of software modules when there are not enough fault data. This paper involves case studies of NASA projects that can be accessed from the PROMISE repository. Case studies show that CC data help build high-performance fault predictors in the absence of fault labels and remarkable results are achieved. We suggest that companies use CC data if they do not have any historical fault data when they decide to build their fault prediction models.

The Phononic Crystal Interface Layer Determines Slow-Wave And Pulse Broadening Effects, Li Sun, Aiming Ji, Jialing Hu, Canyan Zhu, Lijun Zhang, Jianfeng Yang, Lingfeng Mao

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The relationship among the slow-wave and echo pulse broadening effects in reflected acoustic waves and the width of the interface layer of phononic crystal has been theoretically investigated. It has been observed that not only the slow time for the reflected acoustic wave but also the echo pulse broadening reaches a saturation point as the size of the phononic crystal increases. From the viewpoint of the acoustic wave, there is an interface layer in the crystal that determines the slow-wave and the echo pulse broadening effects. The longest slow time, which is the time needed for transmitting 0.08 periods of …

Gravitational Search Algorithm-Based Dynamic Economic Dispatch By Estimating Transmission System Losses Using A-Loss Coefficients, Ram Jethmalani Chinasamy Hemparuva, Sishaj Pulikottil Simon, Sundareswaran Kinattingal, Srinivasa Rao Nayak Panugothu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Dynamic economic dispatch (DED) is an important problem in power system generation, operation, planning, and control. The objective of the DED problem is to schedule power generation for the online units over a time horizon, satisfying the unit and ramp rate constraints. Here, valve point loading effects that cause nonsmoothness of the objective function is also considered while solving the DED. The accuracy of the solution not only depends on the optimal scheduling of generating units, but it also lies in accuracy while estimating transmission system losses. Generally, B-loss coefficients are used in estimating transmission losses. However, in the literature, …

An Hf/Uhf Dual Mode Rfid Transponder Antenna And Hf Range Extension Using Uhf Wireless Power Transmission, Mustafa Murat Bi̇lgi̇ç, Korkut Yeği̇n

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

An HF/UHF compatible RFID transponder antenna is designed, simulated, and measured for dual band operation and HF range extension. A dual mode compatible RFID transponder antenna has the benefits of each mode and eliminates the disadvantages of single mode operation. One of the major drawbacks of UHF antennas is their poor performance when the tag is placed on or near metallic objects. To overcome this shortcoming, two-layer substrate with degenerate grounded is used and a 4-turn spiral antenna is placed on the top and bottom parts of the substrate for HF operation. The co-existence of both antennas affects standalone performances …

Common Spatial Pattern-Based Feature Extraction From The Best Time Segment Of Bci Data, Önder Aydemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Feature extraction is one of the most crucial stages in the field of brain computer interface (BCI). Because of its ability to directly influence the performance of BCI systems, recent studies have generally investigated how to modify existing methods or develop novel techniques. One of the most successful and well-known methods in BCI applications is the common spatial pattern (CSP). In existing CSP-based methods, the spatial filters were extracted either by using the whole data trial or by dividing the trials into a number of overlapping/nonoverlapping time segments. In this paper, we developed a CSP-based moving window technique to obtain …
