Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The photovoltaic power generation and active filter (PV-AF) system can realize photovoltaic grid-connected power regulation, and meanwhile it can also improve the power quality of power grid effectively. The four-leg grid-connected inverter has successfully been used in the three-phase four-wire system. In this paper, a three-dimensional space vector pulse width modulation (3D-SVPWM) method based on the gh$\gamma $ coordinate system for a four-leg inverter has been proposed. As the switching vectors of the four-leg inverter are in the three-dimensional space, it is difficult to realize the complex modulation process. In order to simplify the modulation process, the reference vector is …

Lattice Approach To Video Steganography, Onur Ünlü, Hacer Karacan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

As a result of the continuously increasing amount of important data, the demand for information security increases daily. Steganographic techniques can play a considerable role in solving this issue, since they can hide the necessary data. Generally, audio and image files have been utilized as hiding media in this area. However, because of their limited capacity, these media limit the amount of hidden information. On the other hand, the capacity limit can be exceeded by applying steganography on video files. There are few studies on video steganography in the literature. In this study, a steganographic library, which is independent of …

Also, many of them are not easily applicable in real life because of special installation requirements and maintenance procedures with highly specialized …

Dual Open-End Stator Winding Induction Machine Fed By Redundant Voltage Source Inverters, Sami Guizani, Faouzi Ben Ammar Jan 2015

Dual Open-End Stator Winding Induction Machine Fed By Redundant Voltage Source Inverters, Sami Guizani, Faouzi Ben Ammar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, the authors propose the availability analysis of a dual open-end stator windings asynchronous machine. Each open-end stator winding is supplied by two PWM voltage source inverters. The active and passive redundancy of the inverters improves reliability, availability, and safety of the system since the loss of inverter losses does not stop the machine. Indeed, for active redundancy, in the case of failure of the inverter, the corresponding winding is disconnected and the other winding is supplied by the two healthy inverters. For passive redundancy, one winding is fed by two inverters and the two others are waiting; …

A Novel Efficient Model For The Power Flow Analysis Of Power Systems, Amir Safdarian, Mahmud Fotuhi Firuzabad, Farrokh Aminifar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The overall system status calculated by power flow analysis is the most basic information used for all decisions taken by power system operators and planners. While conventional AC power flow solutions are computationally tractable, approximate DC models are employed in many applications, such as optimal power flow studies and unit commitment problems, mainly due to the linear nature of DC models. These models do not provide any information on the reactive power and voltage magnitude quantities and occasionally inaccurate results of the active power values. This paper presents an efficient power flow approach compromising both the conflicting aspects of speed …

A New Systematic And Flexible Method For Developing Hierarchical Decision-Making Models, Ulaş Beldek, Mehmet Kemal Leblebi̇ci̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The common practice in multilevel decision-making (DM) systems is to achieve the final decision by going through a finite number of DM levels. In this study, a new multilevel DM model is proposed. This model is called the hierarchical DM (HDM) model and it is supposed to provide a flexible way of interaction and information flow between the consecutive levels that allows policy changes in DM procedures if necessary. In the model, in the early levels, there are primary agents that perform DM tasks. As the levels increase, the information associated with these agents is combined through suitable processes and …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Developing a robust method for liver segmentation from magnetic resonance images is a challenging task because of the similar intensity values between adjacent organs, the geometrically complex liver structure, and injection of contrast media. Most importantly, a high anatomical variability of a healthy or diseased liver is a major challenge in defining the exact boundaries of the liver. Several artifacts of pulsation, motion, and partial volume effects are also among the variety of factors that make automatic liver segmentation difficult. In this paper, we present an overview of liver segmentation methods in magnetic resonance images and show comparative results of …

With the increase of people's need for energy, electrical energy transmission has become a very important issue as well as electrical power generation. One of the most important problems in energy transmission is finding the best route in a very complex study area. To date, many people from different disciplines have come together to find the best routes by manual methods like using paper maps and deciding which route is the least-cost path (LCP) to the destination point. Today it is known that, in engineering problems, and especially in path-finding or site-placing problems, the Geographic Information System (GIS) is the …

Bull Optimization Algorithm Based On Genetic Operators For Continuous Optimization Problems, Oğuz Findik Jan 2015

Bull Optimization Algorithm Based On Genetic Operators For Continuous Optimization Problems, Oğuz Findik

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, the researcher proposes a new evolutionary optimization algorithm that depends on genetic operators such as crossover and mutation, referred to as the bull optimization algorithm (BOA). This new optimization algorithm is called the BOA because the best individual is used to produce offspring individuals. The selection algorithm used in the genetic algorithm (GA) is removed from the proposed algorithm. Instead of the selection algorithm, individuals initially produced attempt to achieve better individuals. In the proposed method, crossover operation is always performed by using the best individual. The mutation process is carried out by using individual positions. In …

Integration Of Wind Power For Optimal Power System Black-Start Restoration, Amany El Zonkoly Jan 2015

Integration Of Wind Power For Optimal Power System Black-Start Restoration, Amany El Zonkoly

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Integration of wind farms into power systems may increase the risk of power system blackouts due to the uncertain nature of their output power. In the meantime, wind turbines have relatively short starting time when compared to non-black-start (NBS) generating units. For this reason, wind farms need to participate in power system restoration after blackouts. The decision of restoring a wind farm depends on its output power and the characteristics of the power system. The power system restoration should be accomplished as soon as possible. For complete power system restoration, three stages must be completed: generation restoration, transmission system restoration, …

An Ofdm Throughput Analysis For Cognitive Radio Application In Contiguous Or Noncontiguous Tv White Spaces, Cebrai̇l Çi̇fli̇kli̇, Ahmet Turgut Tuncer, Yusuf Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Radio frequency spectrum is a finite and scarce resource. Efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum is a fundamental research issue. Since a large portion of the assigned radio frequency spectrum is used only sporadically, the bands currently allocated to TV services can be opportunistically reassigned to support broadband networking services while continuing to provide broadcast TV. The fragmented and unused TV channels named white spaces have a considerable amount of bandwidth potential and long transmission ranges. Bandwidth scalability can be supported by bonding multiple contiguous or noncontiguous consecutive channels using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cognitive radio. In this …

Effect Of Nonuniform Varying Delay On The Rate Of Convergence In Averaging-Based Consensus, Onur Ci̇han, Mehmet Akar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper discusses the effect of nonuniform varying communication delay on distributed consensus algorithms in discrete time. After introducing the delayed mathematical model, we first investigate the ergodicity of the delayed system using the properties of scrambling matrices. Subsequently, the effect of nonuniform varying delay on convergence is examined. It is shown theoretically that nonuniform delay is not detrimental to the convergence rate of the algorithm for directed acyclic graphs. The results are also illustrated with several numerical examples.
