Tb75: Chemical And Physical Properties Of The Bangor, Dixmont, Caribou, Conant, Perham And Daigle Soil Mapping Units, R. V. Rourke, R. Bangs

Technical Bulletins

Bangor, Dixmont, Caribou, Conant, Perham, and Daigle soils were each sampled a t five locations. The morphology of the soils was described. The chemical and physical properties were determined on an horizonal basis for each location in the laboratory. Weighted means of the properties were presented in 20-cm. depth ranges. Changes in classification and nomenclature of the soils were proposed.

Distribution Of Copper And Zinc In Oysters And Sediments From Three Coastal-Plain Estuaries., R. J. Huggett, F. A. Cross, M. E. Bender Jan 1975

Distribution Of Copper And Zinc In Oysters And Sediments From Three Coastal-Plain Estuaries., R. J. Huggett, F. A. Cross, M. E. Bender

VIMS Books and Book Chapters

Copper and zinc were analyzed in oysters (Crassostrea virginica) from the Newport River estuary, North Carolina, and the Rappahannock River estuary, Virginia. Results indicated that a concentration gradient existed, higher concentrations of metals being found in animals living in fresher waters as was shown previously for oysters in the James, York, and Rappahannock estuaries in Virginia. Absorbed, precipitatcd-coprecipitated, and organic fractions of copper and zinc in the <63-μm portion of the sediments from the Rappahannock and York rivers and estuaries were estimated from collections made in January 1972 and June 1973. These sediment data are discussed for both estuarine systems and are compared with metal concentrations in oysters. These comparisons indicated that the concentration gradient found in oysters does not appear to be related to the distribution of copper and zinc in the sediments. Alternative explanations for the inverse relationships between concentrations of copper and zinc in oysters and salinity arc given.

A Survey Of Land Suitable For Townsville Stylo In The North Kimberley Of W.A. 1973, A Kubicki, J. Beer

Books & book chapters

The aims of the survey were to -

(a) define the extent and actual location of country suitable for the production of non-indigenous pastures; in particular to classify the land for its suitability for Townsville stylo (Styioaanthes hurniiia).

(b) map the areas so defined on a land system basis.

The area surveyed covered approximately 88 000 sq.km (33 968 sq.miles) and included most of the catchments of the Carson, Drysdale, King Edward, Prince Regent, Charnley, Isdell and Chapman Rivers. It covered the country between latitude 14°S and 17°S and longitude 124°30'E and 127°30'E.

Tb69: Variability Of Drought In The Northeast, Eliot Epstein Apr 1974

Tb69: Variability Of Drought In The Northeast, Eliot Epstein

Technical Bulletins

Drought has been defined in many different terms and interpreted in different ways by meteorologists, hydrologists, and agriculturists. Essentially, the interpretation has depended on the means of evaluation. Hydrologists are essentially concerned with precipitation and runoff and often defines drought as a given period without rain. Agriculturists define drought in terms of soil moisture as related to crop growth. This publication presents many different graphs and maps on precipitation, evapotranspiration, and soil-plant relationships.

B707: Analysis Of Waste Disposal Problems Related To Maine Poultry Processing Plants, F. Richard King, Forest M. French Feb 1974

B707: Analysis Of Waste Disposal Problems Related To Maine Poultry Processing Plants, F. Richard King, Forest M. French

Bulletins

This study analyzed waste disposal problems related to Maine poultry processing plants. The problems of the Maine plants are quite typical of those found in the industry outside Maine. Two exceptions to this generality are amount of water used and cost of replacement and operation of the treatment facility. Maine plants appear to use more water than plants located in competing areas but they are of larger average size and have access to municipal water supplies and therefore are not particularly disadvantaged.

Dairying In W.A., Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia Jan 1974

Dairying In W.A., Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia

Bulletins - 3000 - 3999

Western Australia has a small dairy industry compared with its other rural production. However, the industry has consolidated over recent years.Tree clearing and pasture development on existing holdings and the amalgamation of small dairy farms has led to a rapid increase in the area of pasture per farm. The trend in Western Australia is towards bigger herds, more efficient dairies, more fodder conservation and increasing production per cow and per hectare. Commercial dairy farming in Western Australia is confined to the south-western corner of the State, south of Perth, extending in a 50-kilometre-wide strip along the coast to 50 kilometres …

Case Studies In Systems Chemistry, George Fleck

Open Educational Resources: Textbooks

This publication was produced as a teaching tool for college chemistry. The book is a text for a computer-based unit on the chemistry of acid-base titrations, and is designed for use with FORTRAN or BASIC.computer systems, and with a programmable electronic calculator, in a variety of educational settings. The text attempts to present computer programs that are relatively free of reliance on specialized large computer systems programs. The case-study approach presented is highly research and laboratory oriented. Similar subject matter is conventionally taught in most introductory college chemistry courses, but this text material attempts greater depth of instruction through utilization of …
