Test 401: Masey-Harris Pony, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener Sep 1947

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener

University Studies (University of Nebraska): Papers

This investigation is essentially a geomorphological study of the lower Platte River Valley area in eastern Nebraska. The area comprises Saunders, Dodge, Washington, Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass counties. The area defined above is one of the most critically located of any for the study of the post-Kansan history of the lower Platte River Valley. It lies between the older till (Nebraskan and Kansan) borders to the west and the younger till (Illinoian, Iowan, and Wisconsin) borders to the east. Physiographic changes have therefore transpired in a strictly post-Kansan periglacial region. The Kansan till is the youngest in the area. The …

Observations On The Nighttime Resting And Biting Habits Of Anopheline Mosquitoes In Ddt-Treated And-Untreated Buildings, Clarence M. Tarzwell, Frank W. Fisk Jan 1947

Observations On The Nighttime Resting And Biting Habits Of Anopheline Mosquitoes In Ddt-Treated And-Untreated Buildings, Clarence M. Tarzwell, Frank W. Fisk

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

Laboratory cage tests and controlled experiments in houses have clearly demonstrated that residual-spray deposits of DDT are lethal to mosquitoes for considerable periods. Although these tests valuable information on the durability of DDT residual deposits, they did not give information on the mortality of malaria mosquitoes naturally entering treated dwellings in search of a blood meal. In order to secure a lethal dose of DDT from residual deposits, mosquitoes must actually touch the material and be exposed to it for a considerable period. This period has been shown to vary (1), depending on the temperature, age of treatment, density and …

The Goss Lemming Mouse, Synaptomys Cooperi Gossii (Goues), In Nebraska, Edson Fichter, Merle F. Hansen Jan 1947

The Goss Lemming Mouse, Synaptomys Cooperi Gossii (Goues), In Nebraska, Edson Fichter, Merle F. Hansen

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

In the course of studies on the cestode parasites of microtine rodents by one of the authors (Hansen), specimens of mice were sent to the United State National Museum where they were identified by Dr. David H. Johnson. Two of these microtines proved to be Synaptomys cooperi gossii (Coues). These specimens of Synaptomys (U.S.N.M. Nos. 282343 and 282344), collected at Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, on September 16, 1946 (male) and November 20, 1946 (female), respectively, are the first ones to be identified from Nebraska.

Water Levels And Artesian Pressure In Wells In Las Vegas Valley And In Other Valleys In Nevada, 1913-1945, T. W. Robinson, George B. Maxey, J. C. Fredericks, C. Harry Jameson Jan 1947

Water Levels And Artesian Pressure In Wells In Las Vegas Valley And In Other Valleys In Nevada, 1913-1945, T. W. Robinson, George B. Maxey, J. C. Fredericks, C. Harry Jameson

Publications (WR)

The rock formations of the earth are great natural reservoirs in which a part of the water derived from rain and snow is stored. Water levels and artesian pressure in wells register the stages of these natural reservoirs. The changes in water levels or artesian pressure are indicative of the depletion or replenishment of the natural reservoirs. Systematic and periodic measurements of water levels and artesian pressure in wells have been made in Nevada, by State and Federal agencies from time to time. However, only a few of these measurements have ever been published. Under the cooperative arrangement between the …

Duck, Goose And Pheasant Records From Ogallala Game Dressing Station, 1943-1946, John H. Wampole Jan 1947

Duck, Goose And Pheasant Records From Ogallala Game Dressing Station, 1943-1946, John H. Wampole

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts

For several seasons records of the number of ducks brought in to be dressed have been kept at an Ogallala dressing station. Records have been tabulated and summarized in an effort to measure the hunter success. Since no record of hunter-days or hunter-trips is obtainable, this report is based upon seasonal totals, daily averages, and numbers per bag. Table III (page 27) shows the number of bags, seasonal totals and average numbers of birds per bag. Table IV shows the take by months and Table V shows the averages per day for the three months of each season.

Wildlife Records From Mail Carriers In April, Levi L. Mohler Jan 1947

Wildlife Records From Mail Carriers In April, Levi L. Mohler

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts

608 mail carriers kept records of game birds seen during the week of April 21 - 26. This was the eighth time that mail carriers have cooperated on a statewide basis. April counts were omitted in 1946 but comparisons are made below of 1945 and 1947 data.

The mail carriers' work provides an inexpensive method of getting extensive statewide observations, and informational bulletins returned to the carriers are of definite value as a public relations step. (Many ot the carriers send in long letters, in addition to the card form, and in a number of instances they have reported information …

The Geologic History Of The Bison In The Great Plains (A Preliminary Report), C. Bertrand Schultz, W. D. Frankforter Dec 1946

The Geologic History Of The Bison In The Great Plains (A Preliminary Report), C. Bertrand Schultz, W. D. Frankforter

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

THE GEOLOGIC history of the bison in North America is a subject which has received little attention to date. Osteological rather than geological problems have been the main concern of most writers who have so far published. If the geologic history of the bison is to be learned, it will be necessary to devote more time and effort in the field in determining the age of the deposits in which various specimens have been discovered and in making more extensive collections from deposits of known age. Unfortunately the majority of the type specimens have been surface finds and little attempt …
