Nebraska Tractor Tests
All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.
All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.
Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Fossil Bearing Basalts (More Particularly The Yakima Basalt Of Central Washington), George F. Beck
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences
Such an overwhelming majority of the floral and faunal remains of the earth's crust have been yielded by rocks of sedimentary origin that generalized statements concerning the occurrence of fossils often neglect their more rare appearance in metamorphic and igneous rocks. In fact there is the temptation, after volcanic tuffs have been excluded as more or less sedimentary, to venture the positive assertion that by their very character igneous rocks are incapable of recording the presence of the life which may have existed at the time of their extrusion. As a result, most that has been written concerning fossil floras …
Conservation Of The Prehistoric Remains Of Nebraska, Alvin Leonard Lugn
Conservation Of The Prehistoric Remains Of Nebraska, Alvin Leonard Lugn
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
A RESOLUTION has recently been adopted by both houses of the Nebraska legislature to conserve the scientifically very valuable deposits of fossil and other prehistoric remains which occur in the state. This is not to be construed as an unfriendly move on the part of the sponsors of this act. The Nebraska Geological Survey welcomes serious scientific study and research within the state by all persons and institutions who seriously desire to investigate and collect for purely scientific purposes. There is no intention to restrict or curtail the collection of materials by properly accredited representatives of educational institutions and museums. …
A Comparative Pollution Study Of The Domestic Water Supply Of Warren County, Kentucky, Glenn Scott
A Comparative Pollution Study Of The Domestic Water Supply Of Warren County, Kentucky, Glenn Scott
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The domestic water supply of Warren County, outside of the city of Bowling Green, is obtained from deep wells and springs. The county is about evenly divided into a southern section of cavernous limestone and a northern section of mixed sandstone and limestone formations.
The wells of the southern cavernous limestone region receive water from unfiltered underground streams and lakes. Most of the wells of the northern region are drilled in sandstone and the water, in a majority of cases, is filtered through porous sandstone and shale.
The purpose of this study was to make a comparative pollution study of …

Analysis Of Errors Made By 717 Collge Students In Arithmetic, O.D. Barnes
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
During the greater part of the elementary-school training of the average American child he receives a large amount of instruction and drill in arithmetic. In the high school he suddenly drops arithmetic except as he maintains practices in courses of science or high school mathematics and except as the transactions of every day life involve arithmetic. In college the individual may suddenly find that the amount of arithmetical knowledge required is not small as in physics, chemistry or certain commercial courses. Evidence exists to indicate that students doing poor work in these courses are often found deficient in arithmetic.
The Solution Of Ordinary & Partial Differential Equations In Series, Kenneth Wood
The Solution Of Ordinary & Partial Differential Equations In Series, Kenneth Wood
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this thesis is to compile and discuss some of the methods of solution of both ordinary and partial differential equations, whose solutions are expressible in the form of a series. An exhaustive study is not attempted. A few of the methods of most common occurrence for finding solutions in series are discussed and examples illustrating these methods are presented.
Exotic Ancient Forests Of Washington, George F. Beck
Exotic Ancient Forests Of Washington, George F. Beck
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences
The greatest fossil forest in the world is located within easy driving distance of the University of Washington campus in the State of Washington, near the Columbia River, east of the city of Ellensburg. Mr. George F. Beck, a member of the faculty of the Ellensburg State Normal School, and a former graduate student of the College of Forestry of the University of Washington, discovered this forest, which is now known as the Ginkgo Forest State Park. Aside from its importance from a scientific point of view, this "petrified forest," which contains a greater variety of species than any other …

The Nebraska Earthquake Of March 1, 1935, Alvin Leonard Lugn
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
RESIDENTS within an area of 50,000 to 75,000 square miles in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas were awakened by mild but distinct earth tremors at 5:00 and 5:03 A.M. on March 1. No damage of any importance has been reported. Two distinct tremors occurred, each lasting about 10 seconds, about 3 minutes apart.

A New Miocene Dog, Mesocyon Geringensis, Sp. Nov., Erwin Hinckley Barbour, C. Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
A field party from the Nebraska State Museum consisting of Messrs. E. L. Blue, Frank Crabill, Loren Eiseley, and C. Bertrand Schultz, on August 28, 1931, was fortunate in finding the remains of a new Mesocyon. This specimen, number 4-28-8-31, the Nebraska State Museum, was found in the Gering formation (lower Miocene), fifteen feet above the Brule, 400 feet west of the road in Redington Gap, near the center of the S. 1/2, sec. 14, T. 19 N., R. 52 W., west of Bridgeport, Morrill County, Nebraska.

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
In February, 1932, while opening a gravel pit to get material for highway construction, the skull, tusks, and mandible of a new longirostral mastodont were found by Robert Arnold on his ranch, Sec. 24, T. 12 S., R. 22 W., 1 1/2 miles due east of Ogallah, Trego County, western Kansas. This point is located about 20 miles west and three miles north of Hays, the seat of the Fort Hays Kansas State College, in the museum of which the above mentioned specimen is mounted and exhibited. When unexpectedly exposed by Mr. Arnold and his associates, the great skull was …

On The Summability Of A Certain Class Of Series Of Jacobi Polynomials, A. P. Cowgill
Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications
The result obtained in this paper is as follows:
The series Σni[((p + 1)(p +3)…(p +2n -1)) ÷(2nn!) X((p-1)/2)n (x), where Xn(p-1)/2(x) (hereafter indicated simply by Xn) is a symmetric Jacobi polynomial p >-1, and i a positive integer, is summable (C, k),k>i—1/2, for the range -1 <x<1.

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: John Deere D
TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.
This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.
