Resistance Of Solid Inconel To Attack By Liquid Indium, David C. Hendra May 1951

Resistance Of Solid Inconel To Attack By Liquid Indium, David C. Hendra

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The role of liquid metals in industry is rapidly becoming of increasing importance. The physical and chemical tendencies of metals in the liquid condition must be ascertained before a metal in this form can be put to practical usage. In very many stages of mineral processing and recovery, in molten-metal baths for temperature control on heat treating, and in several industries where heat transfer is an important aspect, metals may be at one time or another in a liquid condition.

The Freezing Point Of Water In Puddled And Unpuddled Soils At Different Soil Moisture Tension Values, Robert B. Campbell May 1951

The Freezing Point Of Water In Puddled And Unpuddled Soils At Different Soil Moisture Tension Values, Robert B. Campbell

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A technique that will adequately describe the physical condition of water in the soil has long been desired by scientists. The method should include the effect of soluble materials on the osmotic pressure of the soil solution, and also the effect of surface force action between the soil and soil water.

Parker (8) demonstrated that the freezing point was reduced in the presence of finely divided material. This suggested the possibility of using the cryoscopic procedure to measure the physical condition of water soil. More recently, the introduction of Thermistors for accurate temperature measurement have made it desirable to investigate …

A Modified Micro Isoteniscope For Measuring Vapor Pressure, Arthur J. Bates May 1951

A Modified Micro Isoteniscope For Measuring Vapor Pressure, Arthur J. Bates

Bachelors’ Theses

A survey of literature will show that the vapor pressures of many substances have not been determined. A probable reason tor this lack of available data might be that the instrumentation needed for these measurements have been quite complex and required highly skilled personnel for its performance.

Vapor-pressure measurements are important in all distillation problems and in the calculation of certain other physical properties. They are used in the correction of boiling points and in the recovery of solvents. The concentration of vapor in the gas phase may be regulated effectively by controlling the temperature of the liquid. Humidity conditions, …

Oxidation Of Silver As A Method Of Measuring Ozone Concentration, Lorne Maxwell Chanin Feb 1951

Oxidation Of Silver As A Method Of Measuring Ozone Concentration, Lorne Maxwell Chanin

Physics & Astronomy ETDs

It has been found that, under certain conditions, a chemical reaction occurs between silver and ozone. The products of this reaction are silver oxides and oxygen. When heated to a certain temperature, the silver oxides are decomposed into silver and oxygen. If this reaction were produced, then the amount of oxygen resulting from the decomposition would be a measure of the amount of ozone originally present.

Internal Pressure And Related Physical Properties, Eugene Ceperley Feb 1951

Internal Pressure And Related Physical Properties, Eugene Ceperley

Bachelors’ Theses

What is internal pressure? That question has never been answered in a satisfactory manner. Probably the best answer is the simple statement that it is a measure of the attraction between molecules. While this is true it gives no indication of what causes the attractive force or of the effects which this attraction has on a substance.

In this thesis an attempt will be made to use this vague definition of internal pressure to find a method of calculating internal pressure using data for various physical properties. The liquid state of various substances will be considered. A relationship which holds …
