A Process For The Separation Of Barite And Sphalerite, Cairy C. Conover, Edwin Robinson Morris Jan 1912

A Process For The Separation Of Barite And Sphalerite, Cairy C. Conover, Edwin Robinson Morris

Bachelors Theses

"The present price of zinc has stimulated a greater interest in Sphalerite Barite separations than has been manifested for some time. A great many processes have been worked on and have failed for many reasons, the main one being that the physical characteristics of the ore varied so much. The process that is successful must be independent of these variations. The following process is one that depends on a chemical phenomenon and is adapted to any sphalerite-barite separation. This series of experiments was performed by the authors at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla, Mo. and was embodied …

Checker Board Drainage Due To Eroded Dikes, Julian Adolph Hielscher Jan 1912

Checker Board Drainage Due To Eroded Dikes, Julian Adolph Hielscher

Bachelors Theses

"The conclusions here drawn are the results of observations made during the past ten summers spent in this region while camping, fishing, and hunting; at first, with the native game wardens and fire rangers; later on independently or in company with some of the many tourists who annually visit this delightful region. In this manner it has been possible to cross and re-cross this territory in almost every direction. The highways into this wilderness are the streams and lakes and the only method of travel is by canoe, though short excursions can be made over land by following the paths …

A Study Of The Precipitation Of Iron Di-Sulphide And Its Relation To Certain Types Of Deposits, Vachel Harry Mcnutt Jan 1912

A Study Of The Precipitation Of Iron Di-Sulphide And Its Relation To Certain Types Of Deposits, Vachel Harry Mcnutt

Masters Theses

"Very few of the interesting points bearing upon the formation of iron di-sulphide will be treated in this paper. The laboratory tests made are considered to have been sufficiently thorough to substantiate the ideas set forth so that exhaustive tests were not necessary. While the field evidence was collected largely in the Joplin district of Missouri, the conclusions are sufficiently generalized to be applicable to any district in which pyrite and marcasite have been derived from cold solutions"--page 2.

A Summary Of The Theories Of The Origin Of The Lake Superior Copper Ores, With Evidences Pertaining Thereto, Eva Endurance Hirdler Jan 1911

A Summary Of The Theories Of The Origin Of The Lake Superior Copper Ores, With Evidences Pertaining Thereto, Eva Endurance Hirdler

Bachelors Theses

"In each of the foregoing theories we obtain sound reasoning in connection with many facts. Therefore a correlation of these facts ought to give us enough material to deduct a sound theory. The most plausible supposition seems to be that all metallic ores are derived ultimately from the interior of the earth, from a great metallographic province, when they are delivered by igneous eruptives near or at the surface"--Conclusion With Reasons, page 29.

A Comparison Of The Silver Losses Due To Cupellation Using Different Kinds Of Cupels, James A. Taggart, Anton Frederick Karte

Bachelors Theses

"In this thesis our object has been to ascertain the silver losses in cupellation with different kinds of cupel materials, thereby determining the efficiency of the various materials used for making cupels. When beginning this work we hardly expected to find such differences in behavior of the various cupels used. However we refer the reader to our curves to see what really happened"--page 2.

Evidence Pertaining To The Origin And Deposition Of Ore Deposits, James Edward Mcgoughran Jan 1911

Evidence Pertaining To The Origin And Deposition Of Ore Deposits, James Edward Mcgoughran

Bachelors Theses

"In looking over the evidence grouped in the foregoing tables it is at once evident that by far the greater number of the ore deposits are associated with igneous rocks, and that they have resulted from deposition from not solution. It appears that, relatively, deposition by segregation from an igneous magma is of much less importance than deposition from solution, in the formation of ore bodies. However, segregation is the only explanation possible in accounting for some very important deposits, but they are very few in number. In distinguishing between deposits resulting from hot ascending meteoric solutions and those resulting …

A Study Of Some Problems In Cyaniding, Sidney S. Schmidt, Russell B. Caples Jan 1910

A Study Of Some Problems In Cyaniding, Sidney S. Schmidt, Russell B. Caples

Bachelors Theses

"The object of the following tests was rather to determine quantitatively the consumption of Potassium Cyanide and of Sodium Cyanide when agitated by compressed air, and when agitated by compressed air in the presence of iron pyrite and in the presence of iron filings, than to explain chemically the causes for this consumption"--Part One, page 1. "The following tests were made to study the rate of percolation of water, under certain conditions, through pure quartz. the information sought is of importance in the cyanide process. By "rate of percolation" we mean the distance traveled in a unit time, by water …

A Study Of Some Problems In Assaying, Aaron Max Shah Jan 1909

A Study Of Some Problems In Assaying, Aaron Max Shah

Bachelors Theses

"It is known that the lead button which we obtain from fire assay for silver does not represent the true value of the ore. There is always a loss of silver. To investigate the effect of varying the fluxes on the loss in silver is the object of the first part of this thesis...Silver ores often contain copper, part of which, during the fusion, enters the lead button, causing trouble during cupellation, since it must be done at a high temperature. It is, then, important to keep copper out of the lead button. The presence of litharge in the fusion …

The Oxidation Of Natural Sulphides, Harry Clay Kibe Jan 1909

The Oxidation Of Natural Sulphides, Harry Clay Kibe

Bachelors Theses

"Work upon the oxidation of natural sulphides done at this laboratory indicates that laboratory methods might be successfully employed in seeking explanations of certain actual problems in the theory of ore deposition. This led me to experiment further with galena, sphalerite, and iron pyrite, which work confirms the results of Gottschalk and Buehler, namely, that the course of an oxidation is materially effected when mixtures of sulphides are employed rather than single individual minerals"--page 1.

The Effect Of Certain Minerals Upon The Volatilization Of Silver Chloride, Boyd Dudley Jr. Jan 1908

The Effect Of Certain Minerals Upon The Volatilization Of Silver Chloride, Boyd Dudley Jr.

Bachelors Theses

"The work undertaken in this investigation was first suggested in connection with the analytical determination of Silver and Chlorine by weighing silver chloride. Later, however, the experiments assumed a metallurgical character. The final purpose of the experiments was to determine the effect of a few of the common mineral constituents of ores on the loss of silver during a chloridizing roast. In the metallurgy of silver it is frequently necessary to change the silver bearing minerals into silver chloride"--page 1.
