On A Certain Subclass Of Analytic Functions With Negative Cefficients, M. K. Aouf, Nak Eun Cho

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The object of the present paper is to derive several interesting properties of the class $T_n\lam$ consisting of analytic and univalent functions with negative coefficients. Coefficient inequalities, distortion theorems and closure theorems of functions in the class $T_n\lam$ are determined. Also radii of close-to-convexity, starlikeness and convexity are determined. Furthermore, integral operators and modified Hadamard products of several functions belonging to the class $Tn\lam$ are studied here.

Petrogenesis Of The Çiçekdağ Igneous Complex, N Of Kırşehir, Centralanatolia, Turkey, Sabah Yilmaz Şahi̇n, Durmuş Boztuğ

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Central Anatolia typically represents well-preserved geological features of a collision zone. This collision zone is characterized by some geological events occurred in the Anatolide passive margin of the Anatolide-Pontide collision along the Ankara Erzincan suture zone. This suture zone is commonly known to be formed by the pre-Maastrichtian northward subduction of the northern branch of Neo-Tethys beneath the Pontides which was constituting the southernmost tip of Eurasiain plate at that time. These geological occurrences are inverted metamorphism; ophiolitic slabs derived from main suture zone; syn-collisional and S/C ST type magmatism; post-collisional, high-K calcalkaline, hybrid and I/H LO type magmatism; post-collisional, …

Evidence For Damaging Historical Earthquakes At Priene, Western Turkey, Erhan Altunel Jan 1998

Evidence For Damaging Historical Earthquakes At Priene, Western Turkey, Erhan Altunel

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The ancient cilty of Priene was one of the earliest Ionian settlements within the western part of the Büyük Menderes valley (the ancient Maeander River) and was first founded about 8 km in the east of the present site. The old Priene was probably destroyed by a destructive earthquake in the 350s BC and the city was shifted to the existing place in 350 BC. The new city contains an abundance of evidence related to earthquakes. The following evidence indicates that damaging earthquakes, occurred in the Büyük Menderes graben, caused great damage to the new Priene. (1) Part of the …

Petrology Of The Post-Collisional, Within-Plate Yıldızdağ Gabbroic Pluton, Yıldızeli-Sivas Region, Central Anatolia, Turkey, Durmuş Boztuğ, Mustafa Yağmur, Nazmi Otlu, Sibel Tatar, Akif Yeşi̇ltaş

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Yildizdag gabbroic pluton intrudes the Paleocene-Eocene Yakupoğlan formation which is imbricated with the ophiolitic melange of the northern branch of the Neo-Tethyan ocean, and the crustal metasediments of Kırsehir block or Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex. It is subdivided into some mapable subunits such as gabbroic main body, dioritic marginal facies and microdioritic dykes. Mineralogical-geochemical (major, some trace and REE) data reveal that the magnetite + olivine + augite + calcic plagioclase, and hornblende + biotite + intermediate (or sodic) plagioclase fractionation/accumulation has formed the gabbroic main body and dioritic rocks, respectively, during the solidification of a single mafic magma …

On Intensities Of Modulated Cox Measures, Jewgeni H. Dshalalow Jan 1998

On Intensities Of Modulated Cox Measures, Jewgeni H. Dshalalow

Mathematics and System Engineering Faculty Publications

In this paper we introduce and study functionals of the intensities of random measures modulated by a stochastic process ξ, which occur in applications to stochastic models and telecommunications. Modulation of a random measure by ξ is specified for marked Cox measures. Particular cases of modulation by ξ as semi-Markov and semiregenerative processes enabled us to obtain explicit formulas for the named intensities. Examples in queueing (systems with state dependent parameters, Little's and Campbell's formulas) demonstrate the use of the results.

Quality Evaluation Methods – A Review, Boyan N. Dimitrov Jan 1998

Quality Evaluation Methods – A Review, Boyan N. Dimitrov

Mathematics Publications

Quality is understood as a set of features that determine how a product fits to satisfy certain needs. Therefore, a set of measurements X1, X2,…, Xn characterizes each product, and also serves as information in evaluation of product's quality. Individual measurements Xi are quantitative (numerical) or qualitative (non-numerical) variables expressing the value of the ith index of quality. Evaluation of the overall level of quality, comparison of similar products, measuring and reporting quality improvement and other related problems need construction of some integral quality index Q in which all individual measurements are taken into account. Several proposals for integral quality …

Radicals, Metals And Magnetism, David J R Brook Jan 1998

Radicals, Metals And Magnetism, David J R Brook

Faculty Publications, Chemistry

The interaction between unpaired electrons governs many physical properties of materials. Although in a fundamental sense the interaction is simple, a full understanding of the interaction in molecular systems is complicated by the presence of other bonding and non-bonding electrons. The resulting many body problem is very challenging. Nevertheless, much qualitative understanding can be obtained from applying simple molecular orbital theory and considering only the partly filled orbitals. The resulting model can be used to describe existing diradical and metal-radical systems and also has predicative value in the search for molecular magnets and design of nanoscale devices.

Influences Of Acid Mine Drainage On Water Chemistry Of Blackwater River Watershed, Carla C. Morato-Lara Jan 1998

Influences Of Acid Mine Drainage On Water Chemistry Of Blackwater River Watershed, Carla C. Morato-Lara

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Acidic mine drainage flow from active and abandoned coal mines has been a major source of water pollution in the Appalachian Mountain region of the eastern USA. Water samples were collected and analyzed from Blackwater River watershed during 2 years (September 1996 - May 1998). The water quality measurements determined that the Beaver Creek and North Fork tributaries were affected by acid mine drainage but not Yellow Creek. Beaver Creek and North Fork stations had high sulfate and manganese markers of acid mine drainage, whereas Yellow Creek was slightly acidic with low sulfate and manganese. North Fork was the primary …

Cell Size Dependence Of Transport Coefficients In Stochastic Particle Algorithms, Alejandro Garcia, F. Alexander, B. Alder Jan 1998

Cell Size Dependence Of Transport Coefficients In Stochastic Particle Algorithms, Alejandro Garcia, F. Alexander, B. Alder

Faculty Publications

Using the Green–Kubo theory, the dependence of the viscosity and thermal conductivity on cell size is obtained explicitly for stochastic particle methods such as direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) and its generalization, the consistent Boltzmann algorithm (CBA). These analytical results confirm empirical observations that significant errors occur when the cell dimensions are larger than a mean free path.

Twisting Of X-Ray Isophotes In Triaxial Galaxies, Aaron J. Romanowsky, C. S. Kochanek Jan 1998

Twisting Of X-Ray Isophotes In Triaxial Galaxies, Aaron J. Romanowsky, C. S. Kochanek

Faculty Publications

We investigate X-ray isophote twists created by triaxiality differences between the luminous stellar distributions and the dark halos in elliptical galaxies. For a typically oblate luminous galaxy embedded in a more prolate halo formed by dissipationless collapse, the triaxiality difference of ΔT simeq 0.7 leads to typical isophote twists of langΔψXrang simeq 16° ± 19° at 3 effective stellar radii. In a model that includes baryonic dissipation, the effect is smaller, with ΔT simeq 0.3 and langΔψXrang simeq 5° ± 8°. Thus, accurate measurements of X-ray isophote twists may be able to set constraints on the interactions between baryons and …

Synthesis And Characterization Of A Trypsin Inhibitor, Eric L. Schneider Jan 1998

Synthesis And Characterization Of A Trypsin Inhibitor, Eric L. Schneider

Honors Theses, 1963-2015

Inhibitors of biological enzymes are frequently produced by mimicking the molecular structure of the enzyme's natural substrate. Because of the extensive studies that have already been performed on the trypsin enzyme, its natural substrates and its mode of interaction with them are well understood. By finding an easily synthesized molecule to inhibit the trypsin enzyme, college level laboratory experiments could be designed and integrated into organic chemistry and biochemistry courses. In this project, a possible trypsin inhibitor molecule, 4-fluorobenzylaimine, was chosen based on its similarity to the natural trypsin substrates and because it has been predicted through computational studies to …

Definitional Interpreters For Higher-Order Programming Languages, John C. Reynolds Jan 1998

Definitional Interpreters For Higher-Order Programming Languages, John C. Reynolds

College of Engineering and Computer Science - Former Departments, Centers, Institutes and Projects

Abstract. Higher-order programming languages (i.e., languages in which procedures or labels can occur as values) are usually defined by interpreters that are themselves written in a programming language based on the lambda calculus (i.e., an applicative language such as pure LISP). Examples include McCarthy’s definition of LISP, Landin’s SECD machine, the Vienna definition of PL/I, Reynolds ’ definitions of GEDANKEN, and recent unpublished work by L. Morris and C. Wadsworth. Such definitions can be classified according to whether the interpreter contains higher-order functions, and whether the order of application (i.e., call by value versus call by name) in the defined …

Dynamic Management Of Heterogeneous Resources, Jerrell Watts, Marc Rieffel, Stephen Taylor Jan 1998

Dynamic Management Of Heterogeneous Resources, Jerrell Watts, Marc Rieffel, Stephen Taylor

College of Engineering and Computer Science - Former Departments, Centers, Institutes and Projects

This paper presents techniques for dynamic load balancing in heterogeneous computing environments. That is, the techniques are designed for sets of machines with varying processing capabilities and memory capacities. These methods can also be applied to homogenous systems in which the effective compute speed or memory availability is reduced by the presence of other programs running outside the target computation. To handle heterogeneous systems, a precise distinction is made between an abstract quantity of work, which might be measured as the number of iterations of a loop or the count of some data structure, and the utilization of resources, measured …

Skew-Insensitive Parallel Algorithms For Relational Join, Khaled Alsabti, Sanjay Ranka Jan 1998

Skew-Insensitive Parallel Algorithms For Relational Join, Khaled Alsabti, Sanjay Ranka

College of Engineering and Computer Science - Former Departments, Centers, Institutes and Projects

Join is the most important and expensive operation in relational databases. The parallel join operation is very sensitive to the presence of the data skew. In this paper, we present two new parallel join algorithms for coarse grained machines which work optimally in presence of arbitrary amount of data skew. The first algorithm is sort-based and the second is hash-based. Both of these algorithms employ a preprocessing phase (prior to the redistribution phase) to equally partition the work among the processors. The proposed algorithms have been designed for memory resident-data. However, they can be extended to disk resident-data. These algorithms …

Visual Interactive Modeling In A Java-Based Hierarchical Modeling And Simulation System, Robert G. Sargent, Thorsten Daum Jan 1998

Visual Interactive Modeling In A Java-Based Hierarchical Modeling And Simulation System, Robert G. Sargent, Thorsten Daum

College of Engineering and Computer Science - Former Departments, Centers, Institutes and Projects

The desired set of properties of a modern simulation system is presented. The portion of the Hierarchical Modeling And Simulation System-Java (HiMASS-j) used for specifying Hierarchical Control Flow Graph (HCFG) Models is described. The specification of HCFG Models in HiMASS-j is by visual interactive modeling through the use of graphical user interfaces and dialog boxes. HCFG Models are specified using two complementary hierarchical specification structures: one to specify the components that comprise a model and how these components are interconnected, and the other to specify the behaviors of individual atomic components. A simulation of a traffic intersection using HiMASS-j is …

Magnetostratigraphy Of Cueva Del Aleman, Isla De Mona, Puerto Rico And The Species Duration Of Audobon's Shearwater, Bruce C. Panuska, John M. Mylroie, Darrell Armentrout, Donald A. Mcfarlane Jan 1998

Magnetostratigraphy Of Cueva Del Aleman, Isla De Mona, Puerto Rico And The Species Duration Of Audobon's Shearwater, Bruce C. Panuska, John M. Mylroie, Darrell Armentrout, Donald A. Mcfarlane

WM Keck Science Faculty Papers

Magnetostratigraphic analysis of deposits exposed in Cueva del Aleman shows two reversed and two normal chronozones. The lower normal polarity event is observed in a clastic dike and probably predates initial cave formation. Sediments deposited inside the cave proper show a R-N-R sequence and probably date to at least 1.8 Ma. A fossiliferous clastic dike contains normal polarity with an overlying reversed magnetozone. Audubon’s Shearwater (bird) bones occur in the dike, which is tentatively correlated with the lower N polarity zone predating cave formation. If this correlation is correct, the Audubon’s Shearwater (Puffinus lherminieri) range can be extended back to …
