The vocal behavior of ziphiid whales is very poorly known. Free-swimming northern bottlenose whales, Hyperoodon ampullatus, have been recorded producing 3-16 kHz whistles and chirps (Winn et al. 1970; linear equipment frequency response 500 Hz-14 kHz) and 20-30 kHz ultrasonic clicks (Fauchner and Whitehead, unpublished data; equipment response to 35 kHz). A free-swimming mesoplodont beaked whale (probably Mesoplodon hertori) produced ultrasonic clicks (Ljungblad, unpublished data; equipment frequency response to 32 kHz). The Alpine belt comprises several pieces of Pre-Mesozoic basement, which have received various imprints of the successive Paleozoic orogenic episodes. If Pre-Mesozoic palinspatic reconstructions are taken into account, the Alpine basement can be considered as one single area before Mesozoic continental breakup. Contrasting magma associations were emplaced according to space and time. There exists a controversy about the existence of the Caledonian orogenic episode. Baranadağ and Kortundağ plutons, outcropping in the Kaman-Kırşehir region, constitute the important members of the Central Anatolian post-collisional alkaline plutonism. The Baranadağ pluton comprises only one lithodem called Baranadağ quartz monzonite, whereas, the Kortundağ pluton consists of four mapable units such as Hamit quartz syenite, Durmuslu nepheline-nosean-melanite porphyritic syenite, Bayındır nepheline-cancrinite syenite, and Çamsarı quartz syenite. Among these units, the Baranadağ quartz monzonite and Hamit quartz syenite cut the metamorphics of the Kırşehir Block. Magmatic, metamorphic and ophiolitic rock assemblages in Central Anatolia ar e collectively named as the Central Anatolian Crystalline Complex (CACC). Magmatic rocks form significant portion of the CACC and display a range of fabrics, mineralogies and compositions. However , composite granitoid intrusions, such as the Yozgat, Agaçör en, Ekecikdağ and Cefalıkdağ, dominate the geology of the complex. Alkali basalts occur as small lava flows associated with the andesitic lava flows and pyroclastics of Early to Middle Miocene age which are the main constituents of the Galatia volcanic complex. The northern margin of the complex is bordered by the North Anatolian Fault wher eas the southern margin is surrounded by a continental sedimentary sequence which interfingers with the volcanics. New K-Ar age determinations of the basalts reveal that alkali basalts erupted at two differ ent periods of time: Early Miocene and Late Miocene. In this study, the adsorption of certain water-soluble cationic dyes, (basic blue 9, basic blue 12, basic blue 17, brilliant cresyl blue, janus green B, basic green 4, basic violet 1, basic violet 3, and thionin) onto TriSyl silicas by batch adsorption at 25^oC was investigated. In the adsorption experiments, Langmuir type adsorption in the Giles classification system was found. Binding parameters such as the initial binding constant (K$_i$), the equilibrium binding constant (K), monolayer coverage(n), site-size(u), maximum fractional occupancy ($\hat{\theta}$), and the thermodynamic parameter free energy of adsorption $(\Delta G)$ were calculated for TriSyl silica and cationic dye systems …

The method of multiple scales is used to derive a new integrable coupled nonlinear Schr\\"odinger equation (CNLS) as an amplitude equation from the coupled nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation (CNKG). We also give the corresponding spectral problem and further reduce the derived equation into a finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian system. Finally the integrability of the reduced system is deduced by using a perturbation analysis.

We have studied heavy ion nuclear interactions of 17.0 $MeV/N$ $^{132}Xe+^{238}U$ using muscovite mica as Solid State Nuclear Track Detector (SSNTD). Experimental reaction cross section has been determined by two independent methods. Theoretical reaction cross section has been calculated by a classical formula taking into account the energy dependence of the nuclear radius parameter. The cross section determined in the present work has been compared with those at two other energies for the same reaction.

$CdTe, CdS$ thin films and $n-CdS/p-CdTe$ heterostructures have been prepared by conventional vacuum evaporation technique. Some post deposition treatments to optimize the device efficiency have been analyzed and the effects of the individual process steps on the material and device properties were investigated. Annealing in air with and without $CdCl_2$-treatment decreased the $CdTe$ resistivity. The $CdCl_2$-dip followed by annealing in air at $300^{\circ}C$ for 5 min improved the grain size and polycrystalline nature of $CdTe$ thin films. Solar efficiency improvements were achieved when heterojunctions were prepared on successively treated (i.e. etched, air annealed, $CdCl_2$-processed) $CdTe$ surfaces. Etching of the $CdTe$ …

We present a study of the structural properties of liquid binary alloys with chemical short range order starting from the effective interatomic pair potentials. The interatomic pair potentials are derived using the second order pseudopotential theory and the static structure is obtained using the modified hypernetted chain approximation. The partial structure factors $S_{ij}(q)$ and the concentration - fluctuation structure factor $S_{cc}(q)$ are calculated to analize the ordering tendencies in a binary alloy. The activation energy of amorphous silicon thin films are usually measured by placing the thin film sample on a heating surface and monitoring the change in the dark conductivity as a function of temperature. The most widely used devices for temperature measurements are surface thermometers and thermocouples.
