The Shibboleth middleware from Internet2 provides a way for users at higher-education institutions to access remote electronic content in compliance with the inter-institutional license agreements that govern such access. To protect end-user privacy, Shibboleth permits users to construct attribute release policies that control what user credentials a given content provider can obtain. However, Shibboleth leaves unspecified how to construct these policies. To be effective, a solution needs to accommodate the typical nature of a university: a set of decentralized fiefdoms. Frobenius Classes In Alternating Groups, David P. Roberts

We present a method, based on an old idea of Serre, for completely computing Frobenius classes in alternating groups. We contrast this method with other approaches in examples involving the alternating groups A₃ and A₉. The method can be useful for proper subgroups of alternating groups as well, and we present examples involving the 168-element group PSL₂(7) = GL₃(2) and the Mathieu group M₂₄.

We compute all nonic extensions of Q₃ and find that there are 795 of them up to isomorphism. We describe how to compute the associated Galois group of such a field, and also the slopes measuring wild ramification. We present summarizing tables and a sample application to number fields.

An Abc Construction Of Number Fields, David P. Roberts

We describe a general three step method for constructing number fields with Lie-type Galois groups and discriminants factoring into powers of specified primes. The first step involves extremal solutions of the matrix equation ABC = I. The second step involves extremal polynomial solutions of the equation A(x) + B(x) + C(x) = 0. The third step involves integer solutions of the generalized Fermat equation ax^p + by^q + cz^r = 0. We concentrate here on details associated to the third step and give examples where the field discriminants have the form ±2^a3^b .

Motivated by bioluminescent imaging needs for studies on gene therapy and other applications in the mouse models, a bioluminescence tomography (BLT) system is being developed in the University of Iowa. While the forward imaging model is described by the well-known diffusion equation, the inverse problem is to recover an internal bioluminescent source distribution subject to Cauchy data. Our primary goal in this paper is to establish the solution uniqueness for BLT under practical constraints despite the ill-posedness of the inverse problem in the general case. In addition, significant differences were determined across experience, participation levels, and credit allocation. This study, with the help of the Utah Association of Diabetes Educators, attempted to determine the effectiveness of using self-determination theory (SDT) at an adolescent diabetes camp to increase internalization of diabetes management. Existing evidence indicates that adolescents manage less than 20% of their diabetes, far less than needed (Anderson, 1985). Failure to manage and internalize behavior for regulating glycemic levels can lead to a number of very significant problems (Bryden, Peveler, Stein, Neil, Mayou & Dunger, 2001). The purpose of this study was to identify the appropriate learning environment for reflective learning during a five-day wilderness adventure program by measuring participant's perception of "yutori", which was a similar concept to "leisure as a state of mind" using Experience Sampling Method (ESM). This study was conducted under the assumption that a learning environment where participants· perceive "yutori', is appropriate for spontaneous reflective learning, based on Nishino's studies that positive mood appears when perceiving "yutori" (Nishino & Chinen, 1998) and that perception of "yutori" relates to intrinsic motivation and freedom of choice for the behavior (Nishino, 1999).

This exploratory qualitative study utilized photo-elicitation interviews to investigate the· inner significance of structured outdoor experiences for participants. The course content for the field course incorporated natural resource management, park management, and environmental history with the western United States.
