Walt Disney Company (Company) engineers and architects utilize engineering and technology standards in the design, development, and maintenance of its physical infrastructure worldwide. There was a need to improve the methods by which Company standards are organized and retrieved. While the leading commercial information brokers for engineering and technology standards provide standards search engines and online standards catalogs, these search services are poor in supporting standards seekers who have only a general understanding of their information needs because their searches only utilize a standard's document number, title, and keywords as metadata for searching.

The Nichols-Zoeller freeness theorem states that a finite dimensional Hopf algebra is free as a module over any subHopfalgebra. We will prove this theorem, as well as the first significant generalization of this theorem, which was proven three years later. This generalization says that if the Hopf algebra is infinite dimensional, then the Hopf algebra is still free if the subHopfalgebra is finite dimensional and semisimple . We will also look at several other significant generalizations that have since been proven.

Proves two famous theorems attributed to J.H.M. Wedderburn, which concern the structure of noncommutative rings. The two theorems include, (1) how any semisimple Artinian ring is the direct sum of a finite number of simple rings; and, (2) the Wedderburn-Artin Theorem. Proofs in this paper follow those outlined in I.N. Herstein's monograph Noncommutative Rings with examples and details provided by the author.

The application also provides an editor interface that allows designated users to add, edit, or delete events as well as manipulate logos or images.

The goal of the thesis is to study geodesics on surfaces of constant Gaussian curvature. The first three sections of the thesis is dedicated to the definitions and theorems necessary to study surfaces of constant Gaussian curvature. The fourth section contains examples of geodesics on these types of surfaces and discusses their properties. The thesis incorporates the use of Maple, a mathematics software package, in some of its calculations and graphs. The thesis' conclusion is that the Gaussian curvature is a surface invariant and the geodesics of these surfaces will be the so-called best paths.

The thesis discusses the development of Multi-Warehouse Inventory Control System (MWICS), a uniquely designed web application that targets membership based food wholesalers. The main goal of MWICS is to provide a real-time inventory control ability to all warehouses and present them as if it were single warehouse. The program consists of three main components: user account management sub-system, product and purchase management sub-system, and a warehouse inventory management sub-system. User interfaces are constructed primarily in HTML, PHP, and Javascript. MySQL is used to add, access, and process data.

The purpose of the thesis is to give an alternative and more efficient method for working with finite groups by constructing finite groups as homomorphic images of progenitors. The method introduced can be applied to all finite groups that possess symmetric generating sets of involutions. Such groups include all finite non-abelian simple groups, which can then be constructed by the technique of manual double coset enumeration.

Reflection in learning is a pedagogical technique used to promote the higher order cognitive skills of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation that constitute the concept of critical thinking. To foster reflection in learning, the Internet technology of online journals known as blogs was employed in a two-semester, four-course investigation of the efficacy of this educational technology for vocational computer science students in a community college. We have performed a kinematically complete experiment on transfer excitation in intermediate-energy proton-helium collisions. The differential cross sections were compared to double excitation data and a nonperturbative time-dependent calculation. This comparison reveals the importance of dynamic couplings between the motion of the heavy nuclei and electronic transitions and/or electron-electron correlation effects.

The creation of detailed 3D (three-dimensional) building models has become an area of considerable research over the last couple of decades. The accurate modelling of buildings offers LBS (Location Based Services) applications in planning, cultural heritage, tourism and e-commerce among others. The approach taken by the majority of contemporary modelling systems that use terrestrial imagery taken from arbitrary locations requires the user to carry out manual correspondences across the image set. These correspondences are used for two purposes. Bound States In The Continuum In Quantum-Dot Pairs, Gonzalo Ordonez, Kyungsun Na, Sungyun Kim

It is shown that for two open quantum dots connected by a wire, “bound states in the continuum” of a single electron are formed at nearly periodic distances between the dots. This is due to Fabry-Pérot interference between quasibound states in each dot. The bound states are nonlocal, describing the electron trapped in both dots at the same time. Theoretical and numerical results show that trapped states exist even if the wire connecting the dots is relatively long.

This paper focuses on why the regular least{squares ¯tting technique is unstable when used to ¯t exponential functions to signal waveforms, since such functions are highly correlated. It talks about alternative approaches, such as the search method, which has a slow convergence rate of 1=N1=M, for M parameters, where N is the number of computations performed. We have used the Monte Carlo method, utilizing both search and random walk, to devise a stable least{squares ¯tting algorithm that converges rapidly at a rate 1=N1=2, regardless of the number of parameters used in ¯tting the waveforms. Existing work has been performed investigating sonfication and its applications, and this research seeks to build upon these ideas while also suggesting new areas of potential. In this research, initial work focused on the sonification of DNA and RNA nucleotide base sequences for analysis. Photopolymers are increasingly interesting as new materials for the fabrication of electro optical liquid crystal devices. Photoinduced surface relief gratings in dry, self developing acrylamide based photopolymers can be used to align liquid crystals (LCs) as an alternative to the rubbing technique. These optically recorded surface relief patterns can be used to fabricate electro-optical switchable LC Bragg gratings. An investigation of the dependence of photoinduced surface relief gratings on recording intensity and thickness of the photopolymer layer is reported. The surface relief gratings were filled with E7 LCs and a switchable LC diffraction grating was fabricated.

Streamside Management Zones (SMZs) are meant to protect riparian habitat and the stream ecosystem. Benthic macroinvertebrates are recognized bioindicators of water quality in streams, typically occupying multiple trophic levels in these systems and providing food for vertebrates. Thus, it is important to understand the effects of harvest within and adjacent to the SMZ on macroinvertebrate assemblages. Benthic macroinvertebrates were sampled pre- and post-harvest from four firstorder streams draining the Dry Creek watershed in southwestern Georgia. A multi-habitat sampling procedure was used. One noteworthy feature of the SSRN-based rankings is the high correlation between them and other rankings. Black and Caron report correlation coefficients between their two Social Science Research Network (SSRN) school rankings (one based on downloads from SSRN and one based on the number of papers posted on SSRN) and six other published rankings. The correlations provide a useful and creative measure of consistency across studies. If ranking studies are highly correlated, then the least expensive and most efficient study to conduct can be used without incurring the expense and delay of the more labor-intensive ranking methods. A distinct sequence of orange-brown, fossiliferous grainstones with interbedded blue mudstones exists in the upper portion of the Silurian-aged (Llandoverian) Brassfield Formation exposure at Oakes Quarry Park, Fairborn, Ohio. The unit is locally referred to as the cephalopod marker bed as it can be easily identified and is continuous throughout the quarry. The unit varies considerably in thickness (0.3m-0.9m) and contains a variety of sedimentary structures and fossils indicative of a warm, shallow marine environment subject to wave action. Dominant fossils within the unit include echinoderms, cephalopods, bryozoans, abraded mollusks, gastropods, brachiopods, and trilobites. Less-common fossil organisms within the unit …

Based on the design concept for a work-centered support system (WCSS), these software systems support user tasks and goals through both direct and indirect aiding methods within the interface client. For the semantic evaluation of natural language sentences, in particular those containing generalized quantifiers, we subscribe to the generate and test methodology to produce models of such sentences. These models are considered as means by which the sentences can be interpreted within a natural language processing system. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate that answer set programming is a simple, efficient and particularly well suited model generation technique for this purpose, leading to a straightforward implementation.

By introducing the concepts of a loop and a loop formula, Lin and Zhao showed that the answer sets of a nondisjunctive logic program are exactly the models of its Clark’s completion that satisfy the loop formulas of all loops. Recently, Gebser and Schaub showed that the Lin-Zhao theorem remains correct even if we restrict loop formulas to a special class of loops called “elementary loops.” In this paper, we simplify and generalize the notion of an elementary loop, and clarify its role. Answer Set Programming (ASP) emerged in the late 1990s as a new logic programming paradigm which has been successfully applied in various application domains. Propositional satisfiability (SAT) is one of the most studied problems in Computer Science. ASP and SAT are closely related: Recent works have studied their relation, and efficient SAT-based ASP solvers (like assat and Cmodels) exist.
