A Variation Of Supplemented Modules, Gökhan Bi̇lhan, Ayşe Tugba Güroğlu Jan 2013

A Variation Of Supplemented Modules, Gökhan Bi̇lhan, Ayşe Tugba Güroğlu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Over a general ring, an R-module is w-supplemented if and only if amply w-supplemented. It is proved that over a local Dedekind domain, all modules are w-supplemented and over a non-local Dedekind domain, an R-module M is w-supplemented if and only if Soc(M)\ll M or M=S_0 \oplus (\bigoplus_{i \in I} K), where S_0 is a torsion, semisimple submodule of M and K is the field of quotients of R.

Structure Theorems For Rings Under Certain Coactions Of A Hopf Algebra, Gaetana Restuccia, Rosanna Utano Jan 2013

Structure Theorems For Rings Under Certain Coactions Of A Hopf Algebra, Gaetana Restuccia, Rosanna Utano

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let \{D_1,..., D_n\} be a system of derivations of a k-algebra A, k a field of characteristic p > 0, defined by a coaction \delta of the Hopf algebra H_c = k[X_1,..., X_n]/(X_1^p,..., X_n^p), c \in \{0,1\}, the Lie Hopf algebra of the additive group and the multiplicative group on A, respectively. If there exist x_1, \dots, x_n \in A, with the Jacobian matrix (D_i(x_j)) invertible, [D_i,D_j] = 0, D_i^p = cD_i, c \in \{0, 1\}, 1 \leq i, j \leq n, we obtain elements y_1,..., y_n \in A, such that D_i(y_j) = \delta_{ij}(1 + cy_i), using properties of H_c-Galois extensions. …

The Cyclic Behavior Of The Constrictive Markov Operators, César Emilio Villarreal Rodríguez Jan 2013

The Cyclic Behavior Of The Constrictive Markov Operators, César Emilio Villarreal Rodríguez

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let S be a Polish space, and let M_{\varSigma} be the Banach space of finite signed measures on the Borel \Sigma-algebra \varSigma of S. Given a constrictive Markov operator T:M_{\varSigma}\rightarrow M_{\varSigma}, we use the asymptotic periodic decomposition of T to determine the set of T-invariant distributions in M_{\varSigma} and the set of T-ergodic distributions. We also give the relationship between the asymptotic periodic decomposition and the cycles of the process relative to the operator T.

Nzi Rings, Long Wang, Junchao Wei, Libin Li Jan 2013

Nzi Rings, Long Wang, Junchao Wei, Libin Li

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

A ring R is called NZI if for any a \in R, l(a) is an N-ideal of R. In this paper, we first study some basic properties and basic extensions of NZI rings. Next, we study the strong regularity of NZI rings and obtain the following results: (1) Let R be a left SF-ring. Then R is a strongly regular ring if and only if R is an NZI ring; (2) If R is an NZI left MC2 ring and every simple singular left R-module is nil-injective, then R is reduced; (3) Let R be an NZI ring. Then R …

On The Minkowski Measurability Of Self-Similar Fractals In R^D, Ali̇ Deni̇z, Mehmet Şahi̇n Koçak, Yunus Özdemi̇r, Andrei̇ Rati̇u, Adem Ersi̇n Üreyen Jan 2013

On The Minkowski Measurability Of Self-Similar Fractals In R^D, Ali̇ Deni̇z, Mehmet Şahi̇n Koçak, Yunus Özdemi̇r, Andrei̇ Rati̇u, Adem Ersi̇n Üreyen

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The question of Minkowski measurability of fractals is investigated for different situations by various authors, notably by M. Lapidus. In dimension one it is known that the attractor of an IFS consisting of similitudes (and satisfying a certain open set condition) is Minkowski measurable if and only if the IFS is of non-lattice type and it was conjectured that this would be true also in higher dimensions. Half of this conjecture was proved by Gatzouras in 2000, who showed that the attractor of an IFS (satisfying the open set condition) is Minkowski measurable if the IFS is of non-lattice type. …

An Exhaustive Computer Search For Finding New Curves With Many Points Among Fibre Products Of Two Kummer Covers Over F_5 And F_7, Ferruh Özbudak, Burcu Gülmez Temür, Oğuz Yayla Jan 2013

An Exhaustive Computer Search For Finding New Curves With Many Points Among Fibre Products Of Two Kummer Covers Over F_5 And F_7, Ferruh Özbudak, Burcu Gülmez Temür, Oğuz Yayla

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper we make an exhaustive computer search for finding new curves with many points among fibre products of 2 Kummer covers of the projective line over F_5 and F_7. At the end of the search, we have 12 records and 6 new entries for the current Table of Curves with Many Points. In particular, we observe that the fibre product y_1^3 = \frac{5(x + 2)(x + 5)}{x}, y_2^3 = \frac{3x^2(x + 5)}{x + 3} over F_7 has genus 7 with 36 rational points. As this coincides with the Ihara bound, we conclude that the maximum number N_7(7) of …

On The Krull Dimension Of Endo-Bounded Modules, Ahmad Haghany, Majid Mazrooei, Mohamad Reza Vedadi Jan 2013

On The Krull Dimension Of Endo-Bounded Modules, Ahmad Haghany, Majid Mazrooei, Mohamad Reza Vedadi

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Modules in which every essential submodule contains an essential fully invariant submodule are called endo-bounded. Let M be a nonzero module over an arbitrary ring R and X = Spec_2(M_R), the set of all fully invariant L_2-prime submodules of M_R. If M_R is a quasi-projective L_2-Noetherian such that (M/P)_R is endo-bounded for any P \in X, then it is shown that the Krull dimension of M_R is at most the classical Krull dimension of the poset X. The equality of these dimensions and some applications are obtained for certain modules. This gives a generalization of a well-known result on right …

Dipolar Interactions, Long Range Order And Random Fields In A Single Molecule Magnet, Mn12-Acetate, Bo Wen Jan 2013

Dipolar Interactions, Long Range Order And Random Fields In A Single Molecule Magnet, Mn12-Acetate, Bo Wen

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

In this thesis, I will present an experimental study of two single molecule magnets, Mn12-ac and Mn12-ac-MeOH. I will show that in both systems, the temperature dependence of the inverse susceptibility yields a positive intercept on the temperature axis (a positive Weiss temperature), implying the existence of a ferromagnetic phase at low temperature.

Applying a magnetic field in the transverse direction moves the Weiss temperature downward towards zero. This implies that the transverse field triggers mechanisms in the system that compete with the dipolar interaction and suppress the long-range ordering.

I will then show that the …

The Role Of Reactive Oxygen Species In Cell Death Induced By Thymidylate Synthase Inhibitors, Ufuk Ozer Jan 2013

The Role Of Reactive Oxygen Species In Cell Death Induced By Thymidylate Synthase Inhibitors, Ufuk Ozer

Theses and Dissertations

Thymidylate synthase (TS) catalyzes the reductive transfer of a methyl group from N5,N10-methylenetetrahydrofolate (CH2-THF) to dUMP, forming dTMP and dihydrofolate (DHF). It is generally accepted that inhibition of the enzyme leads to a deficiency of dTMP, followed by genome damage and programmed cell death. As such, TS has long been viewed as an important target of anti-neoplastic agents, such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and raltitrexed (RTX), which lead to inhibition of the enzyme. Oxidative stress is well-recognized as having a central role in cellular response to a number of DNA damaging agents, and may be a proximate cause of …

Vibrational Spectroscopic Analysis Of Gunshot Residue : A Novel Approach For Detection And Characterization, Justin J. Bueno Jan 2013

Vibrational Spectroscopic Analysis Of Gunshot Residue : A Novel Approach For Detection And Characterization, Justin J. Bueno

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Due to the increasing prevalence of firearm related crimes, there is a need for an all-encompassing analytical technique which can rapidly detect and analyze trace crime scene firearm evidence. There are several forms of ballistics and trace evidence associated with firearm offenses. Historically, the most neglected piece of evidence has ironically been the most prevalent. Each firearm discharge produces a so called gunshot residue (GSR) sample, expelling dust and particles numbering from hundreds to thousands throughout the shooting environment. The detection of GSR at a crime scene or on a suspect is critical for determining what actually happened during a …

C.P. Modules And Their Applications, Qiongling Liu, Jianlong Chen Jan 2013

C.P. Modules And Their Applications, Qiongling Liu, Jianlong Chen

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let R be a ring. A left R-module M is called a c.p. module if every cyclic submodule of M is projective. This notion is a generalization of left p.p. rings in the general module theoretic setting. The aim of this article is to investigate these modules. Some characterizations and properties are given. As applications, the connections among Baer rings, p.p. rings and von Neumann regular rings are studied.

Scalar Curvature And Symmetry Properties Of Lightlike Submanifolds}, Cyriaque Atindogbe, Oscar Lungiambudila, Joel Tossa Jan 2013

Scalar Curvature And Symmetry Properties Of Lightlike Submanifolds}, Cyriaque Atindogbe, Oscar Lungiambudila, Joel Tossa

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, the induced Ricci tensor and the extrinsic scalar curvature on lightlike submanifolds are obtained. This scalar quantity extend the result given by C. Atindogbe in [1]. An example of extrinsic scalar curvature on one class of 2-degenerate manifolds is provided. We investigate lightlike submanifolds which are locally symmetric, semi-symmetric, Ricci semi-symmetric in indefinite spaces form. In the coisotropic case, we show that, under some conditions, these lightlike submanifolds are totally geodesic.

Gorenstein Transpose With Respect To A Semidualizing Bimodule, Zengfeng Liu, Xiaoguang Yan Jan 2013

Gorenstein Transpose With Respect To A Semidualizing Bimodule, Zengfeng Liu, Xiaoguang Yan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let S and R be rings and _SC_R be a semidualizing bimodule. We first give the definitions of C-transpose and n-C-torsionfree and give a criterion for a module A to be G_C-projective by some property of the C-transpose of A. Then we introduce the notion of C-Gorenstein transpose of a module over two-sided Noetherian rings. We prove that a module M in \mod R^{op} is a C-Gorenstein transpose of a module A \in \mod S if and only if M can be embedded into a C-transpose of A with the cokernel G_C-projective. Finally we investigate some homological properties of the …

Blow-Up Phenomena For Nonlocal Inhomogeneous Diffusion Problems, Jianwen Sun, Feiying Yang Jan 2013

Blow-Up Phenomena For Nonlocal Inhomogeneous Diffusion Problems, Jianwen Sun, Feiying Yang

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper is concerned with the blow-up of solutions to some nonlocal inhomogeneous dispersal equations subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. We establish conditions on nonlinearities sufficient to guarantee that solutions exist for all time as well as blow up at some finite time. Moreover, lower bounds for blow-up time of nonlocal problems are obtained.

Algorithm To Solve Certain Ternary Quartic Diophantine Equations, Laszlo Szalay

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we develop an algorithm to solve completely the Diophantine equation F(x,y)=z^2, where the quartic inhomogeneous polynomial F(x,y) with integer coefficients satisfies certain technical conditions. The procedure is an extension of the version of Runge's method given by Poulakis.

Continuous Invariant Averagings, Djavvat Khadjiev, Abdullah Çavuş Jan 2013

Continuous Invariant Averagings, Djavvat Khadjiev, Abdullah Çavuş

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Main results: For every equicontinuous almost periodic linear representation of a group in a complete locally convex space L with the countability property, there exists the unique invariant averaging; it is continuous and is expressed by using the L-valued invariant mean of Bochner and von-Neumann. An analog of Wiener's approximation theorem for an equicontinuous almost periodic linear representation in a locally convex space with the countability property is proved.

Two versions of diametral dimension are shown to coincide for quasinormable Fréchet spaces. The diametral dimension is determined by a single bounded subset in certain cases.

Complete Cotorsion Pairs In The Category Of Complexes, Zhanping Wang, Zhongkui Liu Jan 2013

Complete Cotorsion Pairs In The Category Of Complexes, Zhanping Wang, Zhongkui Liu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we study completeness of cotorsion pairs in the category of complexes of R-modules. Let (A, B) be a cotorsion pair in R-Mod. It is shown that the cotorsion pair (\widetilde{A}, dg\widetilde{B}) and (\overline{A}, \overline{A}^{\perp}) are complete if A is closed under pure submodules and cokernels of pure monomorphisms, where in Gillespie's definitions \widetilde{A} is the class of exact complexes with cycles in A and dg\widetilde{B} is the class of complexes X with components in B such that the complex Hom(A, X) is exact for every complex A \in \widetilde{A}; and \overline{A} is the class of all complexes …

Slant Submersions From Almost Product Riemannian Manifolds, Yilmaz Gündüzalp Jan 2013

Slant Submersions From Almost Product Riemannian Manifolds, Yilmaz Gündüzalp

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we define the concept of almost product Riemannian submersion between almost product Riemannian manifolds. We introduce slant submersions from almost product Riemannian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We give examples and investigate the geometry of foliations that arise from the definition of a Riemannian submersion. We also find necessary and sufficient conditions for a slant submersion to be totally geodesic.

On The Existence Of Nonzero Injective Covers And Projective Envelopes Of Modules, Xiaoxiang Zhang, Xianmei Song Jan 2013

On The Existence Of Nonzero Injective Covers And Projective Envelopes Of Modules, Xiaoxiang Zhang, Xianmei Song

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In general, the injective cover (projective envelope) of a simple module can be zero. A ring R is called a weakly left V-ring (strongly left Kasch ring) if every simple left R-module has a nonzero injective cover (projective envelope). It is proven that every nonzero left R-module has a nonzero injective cover if and only if R is a left Artinian weakly left V-ring. Dually, every nonzero left R-module has a nonzero projective envelope if and only if R is a left perfect right coherent strongly left Kasch ring. Some related rings and examples are considered.

Robust Sensorless Predictive Control Of Induction Motors With Sliding Mode Voltage Model Observer, Seyed Alireza Davari, Davood Arab Khaburi, Fengxiang Wang, Ralph Kennel Jan 2013

Robust Sensorless Predictive Control Of Induction Motors With Sliding Mode Voltage Model Observer, Seyed Alireza Davari, Davood Arab Khaburi, Fengxiang Wang, Ralph Kennel

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a robust sliding mode prediction model is combined with a sliding mode voltage model observer to achieve a sensorless predictive torque control method. In order to compensate the uncertainties of the stator and rotor resistances and the offset of measured current, sliding mode feedbacks were added to the voltage model observer. To reduce the effect of the errors that are injected from the observer to the prediction model in the sensorless application, the prediction model was also reinforced by a sliding mode feedback. The feedback gains for the prediction and observer models are assigned by a robustness …

Intrusive History And Petrogenesis Of The Ash Mountain Complex, Sierra Nevada Batholith, California (Usa), Julie E. Holland, Benjamin E. Surpless, Diane R. Smith, S. L. Loewy, J. S. Lackey

Geosciences Faculty Research

The Ash Mountain Complex (AMC) in the western Sierra Nevada batholith (SNB; California, USA) is an exposure of six compositionally diverse intrusive lithologies with clear crosscutting relationships that permit a focused investigation of magma source characteristics and the relative roles of petrogenetic processes on the evolution of the system. We use new field observations, zircon U-Pb dates, major and trace element data, and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic data to develop a model that can be applied to similar SNB intrusive suites. Stage 1 units, emplaced ca. 105 Ma, consist of two gabbros, a gabbrodiorite, and a granite. Stage 2 and stage 3 …
