Security Issues In Data Warehouse, Saiqa Aleem, Luiz Fernando Capretz, Faheem Ahmed Dr.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Publications

Data Warehouse (DWH) provides storage for huge amounts of historical data from heterogeneous operational sources in the form of multidimensional views, thus supplying sensitive and useful information which help decision-makers to improve the organization’s business processes. A data warehouse environment must ensure that data collected and stored in one big repository are not vulnerable. A review of security approaches specifically for data warehouse environment and issues concerning each type of security approach have been provided in this paper.

Mixed Variational Formulation For The Wellposedness And Numerical Approximation Of A Pde Model Arising In A 3-D Fluid-Structure Interaction, George Avalos, Tom Clark Dec 2014

Mixed Variational Formulation For The Wellposedness And Numerical Approximation Of A Pde Model Arising In A 3-D Fluid-Structure Interaction, George Avalos, Tom Clark

Faculty Work Comprehensive List

We present qualitative and numerical results on a partial differential equation (PDE) system which models a certain fluid-structure dynamics. Wellposedness is established by constructing for it a nonstandard semigroup generator representation; this representation is accomplished by an appropriate elimination of the pressure. This coupled PDE model involves the Stokes system which evolves on a three dimensional domain O coupled to a fourth order plate equation, possibly with rotational inertia parameter ρ>0. This plate PDE evolves on a flat portion Ω of the boundary of O. The coupling on Ω is implemented via the Dirichlet trace of the Stokes system …

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Works

Background: Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) deletions cause disease and accumulate during aging, yet our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying their formation remains rudimentary. Guanine-quadruplex (GQ) DNA structures are associated with nuclear DNA instability in cancer; recent evidence indicates they can also form in mitochondrial nucleic acids, suggesting that these non-B DNA structures could be associated with mtDNA deletions. Currently, the multiple types of GQ sequences and their association with human mtDNA stability are unknown. Results: Here, we show an association between human mtDNA deletion breakpoint locations (sites where DNA ends rejoin after deletion of a section) and sequences with G-quadruplex …

Landscape fires show large variability in the amount of biomass or fuel consumed per unit area burned. Fuel consumption (FC) depends on the biomass available to burn and the fraction of the biomass that is actually combusted, and can be combined with estimates of area burned to assess emissions. While burned area can be detected from space and estimates are becoming more reliable due to improved algorithms and sensors, FC is usually modeled or taken selectively from the literature. We compiled the peer-reviewed literature on FC for various biomes and fuel categories to understand FC and its variability better, and …

First Proof Of Concept Of Sustainable Metabolite Production From High Solids Fermentation Of Lignocellulosic Biomass Using A Bacterial Co-Culture And Cycling Flush System, Wanying Yao, Sue E. Nokes

Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications

To improve the lignocellulose conversion for ABE in high solids fermentation, this study explored the feasibility of cycling the process through the cellulolytic or/and solventogenic phases via intermittent flushing of the fermentation media. Five different flushing strategies (varying medium ingredients, inoculum supplement and cycling through phases) were investigated. Flushing regularly throughout the cellulolytic phase is necessary because re-incubation at 65 °C significantly improved glucose availability by at least 6-fold. The solvents accumulation was increased by 4-fold using corn stover (3-fold using miscanthus) over that produced by flushing only through the solventogenic phase. In addition, cycling process was simplified by re-incubating …

Facies Characteristics And Control Mechanisms Of Quaternary Deposits In The Tuz Gölü Basin, Alper Gürbüz, Nizamettin Kazancı

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

Although there are several studies discussing the pre-Neogene development of the Lake Tuz basin, which is the largest terrestrial basin in Turkey, investigations delineating the characteristics of the Neogene and particularly Quaternary period of this basin are quite limited. Whereas studies regarding such periods of the basin are quite informative for both active tectonics and climate change issues that are of significant public concern. In this study, results of field observations on temporal and spatial characteristics of Quaternary deposits in the Lake Tuz Basin and processes controlling these features are presented. For this, as a result of sequence studies conducted …

Neogene Stratigraphy And Paleogeographic Evolution Of The Karaburun Area, İzmi̇r, Western Turkey, Fikret Göktaş

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The western margin of the Foça Depression (FD) is located in the NE of the Karaburun Peninsula. Terrestrial Neogene sediments in the study area which partly representing the western margin of the FD and the mafic volcanics have NW-SE directions towards ‹zmir bay and are separated from the basement rocks by synthetic normal faults. During the Miocene deposition the basin’s boundaries became structurally narrower and two main sedimentary successions have been defined namely the Karaburun group and the Eflendere group which have been separated with angular unconformity in regional scale. The Karaburun group is represented with dominantly lacustrine deposition in …

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

In this study, the heat flow distribution of Turkey was investigated in the interest of exploring new geothermal fields in addition to known ones. For this purposes, the geothermal gradient was estimated from the Curie point depth map obtained from airborne magnetic data by means of power spectrum method. By multiplying geothermal gradient with thermal conductivity values, the heat flow map of Turkey was obtained. The average value in the heat flow map of Turkey was determined as 74 mW/m2. It points out existence of resources of geothermal energy larger than the average of the world resources. in …

Supergravity Backgrounds For Deformations Of Adsn×Sn Supercoset String Models, Oleg Lunin, Radu Roiban, Arkady Tseytlin

Physics Faculty Scholarship

We consider type IIB supergravity backgrounds corresponding to the deformed AdS_n x S^n supercoset string models of the type constructed in arXiv:1309.5850 which depend on one deformation parameter k. In AdS_2 x S^2 case we find that the deformed metric can be extended to a full supergravity solution with non-trivial dilaton, RR scalar and RR 5-form strength. The solution depends on a free parameter (called a) that should be chosen as a particular function of k to correspond to the deformed supercoset model. In AdS_3 x S^3 case the full solution supported by the dilaton, RR scalar and RR 3-form …

The Effect Of Weather During Rearing On Morphometric Traits Of Juvenile Cliff Swallows, Erin A. Roche, Mary Bomberger Brown, Charles R. Brown Dec 2014

The Effect Of Weather During Rearing On Morphometric Traits Of Juvenile Cliff Swallows, Erin A. Roche, Mary Bomberger Brown, Charles R. Brown

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

Episodes of food deprivation may change how nestling birds allocate energy to the growth of skeletal and feather morphological traits during development. Cliff swallows (Petrochelidon pyrrhonota) are colonial, insectivorous birds that regularly experience brief periods of severe weather–induced food deprivation during the nesting season which may affect offspring development. We investigated how annual variation in timing of rearing and weather were associated with length of wing and tail, skeletal traits, and body mass in juvenile cliff swallows reared in southwestern Nebraska during 2001–2006. As predicted under conditions of food deprivation, nestling skeletal and feather measurements were generally smaller …

Certain Results For The Laguerre-Gould Hopper Polynomials, Subuhi Khan, Ahmed A. Al-Gonah

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we derive generating functions for the Laguerre-Gould Hopper polynomials in terms of the generalized Lauricella function by using series rearrangement techniques. Further, we derive the summation formulae for that polynomials by using different analytical means on its generating function or by using certain operational techniques. Also, generating functions and summation formulae for the polynomials related to Laguerre-Gould Hopper polynomials are obtained as applications of main results.

On A Nonlinear Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equation With Irregular Data, Victor D´Evou´E Dec 2014

On A Nonlinear Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equation With Irregular Data, Victor D´Evou´E

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The main purpose of this paper is to study the existence and properties of solutions of a certain nonlinear non-Lipschitz hyperbolic partial differential equation in two independent variables with irregular data. Using regularization techniques, we give a meaning to this problem by replacing it by a tow parameters family of Lipschitz regular problems. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution in an appropriate algebra of generalized functions and we precise how it depends on the choices made. We study the relationship with the classical solution.

Oscillation Results For Even Order Trinomial Functional Differential Equations With Damping, Ercan Tunç

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we investigate the oscillatory behavior of solutions to a certain class of nonlinear functional differential equations of the even order with damping. By using the integral averaging technique and Riccati type transformations, we prove four new theorems on the subject. Several examples are also considered to illustrate the main results.

Domination Integrity Of Some Path Related Graphs, S. K. Vaidya, N. H. Shah Dec 2014

Domination Integrity Of Some Path Related Graphs, S. K. Vaidya, N. H. Shah

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The stability of a communication network is one of the important parameters for network designers and users. A communication network can be considered to be highly vulnerable if the destruction of a few elements cause large damage and only few members are able to communicate. In a communication network several vulnerability measures like binding number, toughness, scattering number, integrity, tenacity, edge tenacity and rupture degree are used to determine the resistance of network to the disruption after the failure of certain nodes (vertices) or communication links (edges). Domination theory also provides a model to measure the vulnerability of a graph …

Phosphorus Recycling By Profunda Quagga Mussels In Lake Michigan, Caroline Mosley Dec 2014

Phosphorus Recycling By Profunda Quagga Mussels In Lake Michigan, Caroline Mosley

Theses and Dissertations

Quagga mussels (Dreissena rostiformis bugensis) act as ecosystem engineers in the southern basin of Lake Michigan, altering physical habitats and biogeochemical processes. Adapted to cold and oligotrophic conditions, profunda quagga mussels thrive on the soft substrate of deeper depths. At a 55 m site (10,000 mussels m-2) offshore from Milwaukee, WI, profunda mussel biomass (g m-2) was 1/3 of biomass (g m-2) measured at a 10 m comparison site (5,000 mussels m-2). Higher densities but less biomass is due to profunda mussels having less tissue for a given length and the population per m2 comprising of mostly small mussels ( …
