Let M3⊂C2 be a three times differentiable real hypersurface. The Levi form of M transforms under biholomorphism, and when restricted to the complex tangent space, the skew-hermitian part of the second fundamental form transforms under fractional linear transformation. The surfaces for which these forms are constant multiples of each other were identified in previous work, but when the constant had unit modulus there was a global requirement. Here we give a local characterization of hypersurfaces for which the constant has unit modulus.

Gait analysis using smart sensor technology is an important medical diagnostic process and has many applications in rehabilitation, therapy and exercise training. In this thesis, we present a low power wireless smart-shoe system (LPcomS) to analyze different functional postures and characteristics of gait while walking. We have designed and implemented a smart-shoe with a Bluetooth communication module to unobtrusively collect data using smartphone in any environment. In the Asian monsoon region, variations in the stable isotopic composition of speleothems have often been attributed to the "amount effect". However, an increasing number of studies suggest that the "amount effect" in local precipitation is insignificant or even non-existent. To explore this issue further, we examined the variability of daily stable isotopic composition (δ18O) in precipitation from September 2011 to November 2014 in Nanjing, eastern China. We found that intra-seasonal variations of δ18O during summer were not significantly correlated with local rainfall amount but could be linked to changes in the moisture source location and rainout processes in the …

Crete was the birthplace of several ancient writings, including the Cretan Hieroglyphs, the Linear A and the Linear B scripts. Out of these three only Linear B is deciphered. The sound values of the Cretan Hieroglyph and the Linear A symbols are unknown and attempts to reconstruct them based on Linear B have not been fruitful. In this paper, we compare the ancient Cretan scripts with four other Mediterranean and Black Sea scripts, namely Phoenician, South Arabic, Greek and Old Hungarian. Evaluating and improving snow models and outflow predictions for hydrological applications is hindered by the lack of continuous data on bulk volumetric liquid water content (��w) and storage capacity of the melting snowpack. The combination of upward looking ground-penetrating radar and conventional snow height sensors enable continuous, nondestructive determinations of ��w in natural snow covers from first surficial wetting until shortly before melt out. We report a measurement of the branching fraction ratios R(D(*)) of ¯B→D(*)τ−¯ντ relative to ¯B→D(*)ℓ−¯νℓ (where ℓ=e or μ) using the full Belle data sample of 772×106B¯B pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The measured values are R(D)=0.375±0.064(stat)±0.026(syst) and R(D∗)=0.293±0.038(stat)±0.015(syst). The analysis uses hadronic reconstruction of the tag-side B meson and purely leptonic τ decays. The results are consistent with earlier measurements and do not show a significant deviation from the standard model prediction.

Logan, Montana USA is located on the Gallatin River, one of the three rivers forming the headwaters of the Missouri River. Previous hydrogeological studies have determined that the location at Logan is a possible pinch-point for the local Gallatin watershed where shallow groundwater is expected to discharge into the Gallatin River. However, groundwater monitoring wells indicate dry Tertiary sediments overlying bedrock, suggesting surface and groundwater systems are disconnected. We performed shallow seismic refraction, electrical resistivity, spontaneous potential, and electromagnetic surveys to investigate the groundwater system in the study area. Passive seismic interferometry is a process by which ambient noise data recorded at different seismic stations can be cross-correlated to estimate Green's functions. In the past, both surface waves and body waves have successfully been extracted by cross-correlation of ambient noise data on both regional and global scales. This is an experimental exploration of the pattern-driven programming paradigm—the sole use of pattern matching to determine the next instruction or execute. We define a pure pattern-driven programming language named PA-Scala by defining a subset of the Scala programming language, which restricts sequence control to the powerful pattern matching facilities in Scala. We use PA-Scala to explore the strengths and limitations of pattern-driven programming. By implementing a phrase structure grammar solver in PA-Scala, we show that pattern-driven programming can be used to solve general computation problems. Since the 1980s,rubber plantations have replaced a significant portion of the prefecture’s lowland Seasonal Tropical Rainforest, leading to wildlife habitat loss and other environmental issues.Monoculture farming practices also leave farmers economically vulnerable to market fluctuations. The polymerisation rate of a low-toxicity Diacetone Acrylamide (DA)-based photopolymer has been measured for the first time using Raman spectroscopy. A value for the polymerisation rate of 0.020 s−1 has been obtained for the DA photopolymer by modelling the polymerisation reaction dynamics as a stretched exponential or Kohlrausch decay function. This is significantly lower than the polymerisation rate of 0.100 s−1 measured for the well known Acrylamide (AA)-based photopolymer composition. The effect of the additive glycerol on the polymerisation rate of the DA-based photopolymer has also been investigated. The inclusion of glycerol is observed to increase the rate …

We consider a two sided noetherian ring R such that the character modules of Gorenstein injective left R-modules are Gorenstein flat right R-modules. We then prove that the class of Gorenstein flat right R-modules is preenveloping. We also show that the class of Gorenstein flat complexes of right R-modules is preenevloping in Ch(R).

In the second part of the paper we give examples of rings with the property that the character modules of Gorenstein injective modules are Gorenstein flat. We prove that any two sided noetherian ring R with i.d.Rop R < 1 has the desired property. We also prove that if R is a two sided noetherian ring with a dualizing bimodule R VR and such that R is left n-perfect for some positive integer n, then the character modules of Gorenstein injective modules are Gorenstein flat.

The synthesis of 2,5,5-trisubstituted tetrahydrofuran rings was accomplished via the Mukaiyama aerobic oxidative cyclization of tertiary 5-pentenols employing the Co(nmp)2catalyst. A variety of THFs were formed in moderate to good yield and diastereoselectivity. The method developed herein was successfully applied to an enantioselective total synthesis of cyclocapitelline.

Programming support for multi-threaded applications on embedded microcontroller platforms has attracted a considerable amount of research attention in the recent years. This paper is focused on this problem, and presents UnStacked C, a source-to-source transformation that can translate multithreaded programs written in C into stackless continuations. The transformation can support legacy code by not requiring any changes to application code; only the underlying threading library needs modifications. With the development of Internet culture, cute has become a popular concept. Many people are curious about what factors making a person look cute. However, there is rare research to answer this interesting question. In this work, we construct a dataset of personal images with comprehensively annotated cuteness scores and facial attributes to investigate this high-level concept in depth. Based on this dataset, through an automatic attributes mining process, we find several critical attributes determining the cuteness of a person.

In this paper, we present an adaptive nonparametric solution to the image parsing task, namely, annotating each image pixel with its corresponding category label. For a given test image, first, a locality-aware retrieval set is extracted from the training data based on superpixel matching similarities, which are augmented with feature extraction for better differentiation of local superpixels. Then, the category of each superpixel is initialized by the majority vote of the k -nearest-neighbor superpixels in the retrieval set.
